    I have a very, very old Ashford wheel that I found in an antique shop 35 years ago. You are so right about buying a name brand second-hand wheel. This wheel was already so old when I bought it, that the Ashford staff had to look in their archives to identify the model. They then were able to email me copies of the original owners manual and assembly instructions. And I was able to get new bobbins and a tune-up kit to get it working. I'm still spinning on that same wheel. I enjoyed seeing you turn floof into sunshine yarn. harpingJanet

    I did the same thing when seeking an Ashford Traditional! I finally found one at my local fiber arts guild, so purchased her from a fellow spinner (for around the same you paid). She’s about a 1973 wheel and my kids got me a new multi-whorl flyer for Christmas. I’m still learning (I’m a spindle spinner) but love her. I named her Gladys. Glad is as glad does …

    My one and only wheel is an Ashford traditional I bought in 2000. It really is a solid little wheel and parts are easy to get even now. I did change out my drive band for a modern nylon one as I had a terrible time tying the string ones with my arthritis. with that lazy kate I made a small modification. I use old knitting needles instead of the wires and just put one of those rubber point protectors on the end. The wires sometimes when you are plying fast slide out and your bobbin falls.

    • @MijnWolden
      @MijnWolden  Месяц назад +1

      I have clamped one of thos tiny clothespins you use to hang picture on one end of the lazy kate wires, that seems to hold it in place as well

    Love your videos almost as much as I love Ashford wheels. Can I suggest a name with a difference. ‘Walter’ the founder of Ashford wheels and the inventor of the scotch tension system (a name he borrowed from his engineering, background - you ‘scotch’ a wheel to stop it from spinning. This word was modernised during World War II to ‘chock’.)

      @@MijnWolden Blauwe Texelaar, Bont schaap, Swifter, en Zwartbles, allemaal 500 gram. Ik ben nu aan het experimenteren met wel of niet kammen, wat verschillende resultaten geeft per soort, en nog een beetje aan het zoeken naar de beste manier om de wol te wassen. Wat voor zeep gebruik jij als je je wol wast? (of doe je het zonder?)

    • @MijnWolden
      @MijnWolden  Год назад +1

      Meestal zonder, gewoon wat regenwater, ik heb graag nog wat lanoline tijdens het spinnen. Maar als ik zeep gebruik dan is het PH neutrale handzeep (PH neutraal omdat de zuurtegraad meespeelt als je nog zou willen verven).
      Swifter heb ik zelf nog niet geprobeerd (bij mijn weten, al is het een mogelijkheid voor de mysterieuze vacht van tour de fleece), maar swifter is een kruising van Texelaar en Vlaams schaap, dus heerlijk sowieso!
      Hopelijk heb je er evenveel plezier mee als ik 😁

    • @raevynwoods9403
      @raevynwoods9403 Год назад

      @@MijnWolden Goed om te weten, dan ga ik dat eens proberen. Ik heb een stukje van het bonte schaap zo uit de vacht gesponnen, dat spon heel fijn maar er kwamen nogal wat flupjes viezigheid uit dus eerst wassen heeft mijn voorkeur. Maar misschien dat ik zonder zeep wel dat soepele spinnen kan behouden. De swifter komt qua spinervaring redelijk overeen met de texelaar, hij is ieeetsje minder zacht denk ik. Maat wat leuk om te weten dat het een kruising is met het vlaamse schaap!
