Pretendians with Joe Szimhart

- "Pretendians" falsely claim to be members of Native American or Canadian First Peoples. Famous examples are folk singer Buffy Sainte Marie and Little Feather - who accepted an Oscar on behalf of Marlon Brando. As Joe points out, cult leaders are often Pretendians in the sense that they pretend to be enlightened or part of a spiritual heritage. Jon suggests that cult members become Pretendians by entering the imaginary world of their leaders.

Wonderful discussion. I learned so much. And John Atak you were adorable with your long hair and mustard orange sweater!
How kind. I'm the opposite of Samson these days - the longer my hair, the weaker I feel.🙂
Always great conversations with you and Joe. Hope you feel better soon, Jon.
Thanks Michael. Feelling much better.🙂
I enjoy all your discussions.
Thanks for sharing your very interesting conversation.
Im glad you mentioned the frog in your throat..... I thought you weren't Jon Atack....
I enjoy your discussions.
Thanks for taking to time to tell us!🙂
Thank you Joe and Jon I always enjoy your discussions!
How kind🙂
You may have watched or discussed Mike Flanagan's horror mini-series 'Midnight Mass' (2021), but if not, I HIGHLY recommend it.
The words “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return" is one of the more poignant exclamation points in the show.
It is also a mesmerizing study in belief and how it can quickly become a force of destruction and control.
The show is horrifying, beautiful, thought provoking, and inspiring.
It's a masterpiece.
Thank you for your video!
jon--recently discovered your channel through a mutual contact and hopefully my email reached you as well. your work and that of your colleagues is more valuable than you could have every anticipated. however not many anticipated how many ways the influence and impact of scientology would manage to affect other facets of our lives. from you to lifton to hassan and singer. i hope this is a sort of critical evaluation that is able to be reintroduced and encouraged for many years to come...it is needed!
A frog went into a bank to ask for a loan...
Ah, come on, give us the punch line...
[Spike here] c'mon boss, you know this one!
The frog is directed to their chief loan officer, Ms. Patricia Waks. She asks him what collateral he could put up, and he pulls out a small ceramic doodad, the type one might see on the mantelpiece of one's favorite grandmother. Puzzled, Ms. Waks takes it to her supervisor, asking just what the thing is, and if she should accept is as collateral for a loan.
The supervisor says:
"It's a knicknack, Patty Waks, give the frog a loan."
And across the Atlantic, I can hear the groan...
@@jonatackfamilyfriends6176 I didn't but I do now. Thanks for enlightening me.🐸
❤ feel better Jon
Doing much better thanks, though the poor frog seems to be homeless now. Thanks for watching!😊
It is fairly widely known that in the Gaudiya Vaishnavism, BG is not the main scripture, but the Bhagavat Purana is. Also the swami on the cover is not Prabhupada but one of the rivalling gaudiya math. And it would be good form to acknowledge that Hare Krishna in its Western form is a direct descendants from the Gaudiya Mission in Kolkatta in the 1930s. And that from Vaitanya Mahaprabhu in the 16h century.
The dhotis and saris from Hare Krishna are devotional clothing. Modern Indian devotees feel just as out of place when they wear draped clothes. The connotation isn't "we're Indian" but: "we strive to atain brahminical values"
And of course, Castaneda formed his own little cult of witches.
Marie Louise Cruz, aka Littlefeather, "refused" not accepted the award. Of Mexican American European descent. Her acting roles increased after the Oscar's. Wasn't blacklisted she just couldn't act. Furthermore, she took roles that endorsed Hollywood's portrayal and stereotype of NA women in film.
Thanks so much for putting us right.🙂
Of Mexican and European?
Mexican is usually a large part of Indigenous DNA. Her surname Cruz was given to the Indigenous when they were forced to take the Spanish surnames. She very well could have been half indigenous, like me. 50/50. She just wasn’t honest about being of the Mexican culture.
Marie Louise Cruz was not given a surname, nor is she Native American. Marie was named after her Dutch gm, and both her grandparents are documented as born in Holland. There's solid documentation on that side of the family. Her father was born in Oxnard, Ca, and there is no documentation, affiliation, or community in the U.S. or Mexico of being Native. Those statements were made by white Mountain Apache and Yaqui tribes 2 yrs ago. All ancestors are listed as Mexican or white, not Native. Sacheen is not a tribal name but from Sasheen Ribbon Company and is Russian. She changed the spelling. You were duped.
Jon, I'd rather listen/watch you try to catch flies with your tongue than listen to the silly infighting of the SPTV group so keep it up mate! And maybe you might want to do something about that frog ... except croak!
It is getting wearing and it will probably go on for a while. I've done everything I can over the last few months to calm it down and despite my usual attitude I've taken a side as you'll see in the coming weeks. The frog is gone, but I'll practice to see if I can catch any flies.🙂
@@jonatack7693 Thanks Jon and I think I know what side of the issue you may be supporting. Back when I first learned that Mike had developed throat cancer and was being denied access to a medication that would help, my first instinct was to help so I made a contribution. Being on a fixed income and disabled myself, this is an issue that is very personal to me having to deal with insurance and them flatly denying medication prescribed by one of my doctors or make me pay over the counter costs which is why I have no money left to give to my favorite content creators ... you hands down are one of those. I've had to draw a line in the sand now and I'll be damned if I'm going to feel guilty for trying to help that awful Mike character! (sarcasm) Thanks for listening and do you honestly think that this whole SPTV movement is really accomplishing its goals at this point? Best wishes to you and Spike and the whole Atack household!
Ahh ah jon atack upload saturday morning,.. i have a question jon, when will be available to read "the story of me by me" from nibs ?
Unfortunately, The Telling of Me by Me is not in my gift. His grandson, the brilliant Jamie de Wolf, could make it available. I'll email him.🙂
@@jonatack7693 thanks a lot
@@lucag.lisickza425 I've written to Jamie de Wolf encouraging him to release his grand-dad's fascinating manuscript. I think his account of his own life is largely accurate. He repeats his dad's BS which gives us insight otherwise unavailable (for instance, the idea that Hubbard received the 'magic' from the same man who gave it to Hitler. The sort of thing that Hubbard senior probably said, though not founded in reality).
Meant to say Cher has no native ancestry
algorithm stuff....
And lots of it 🙂
Cher most definitely is not Cherokee in any part of her! Her mother is a White American of colonial stock with no proof of any Native American ancestry! Get your facts straight!!
Wrong Cherokee has no Native blood
Meant to say Cher
Isnt the EU a giant example of forcing people from different cultures to see themselves as one?
And to fuse us into a single state. I like the idea of an economic union, but Maastricht's agreement to European sovereignty scared me. People abandon their individuality to patriotic notions (patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel as Samuel Johnson put it. By strange happenstance, we attended - and despised - the same school in Lichfield, Staffordshire).🙂
@@jonatack7693 the problem with an “economic union” reared its head about 10 years ago when the EU decided that Ireland’s tax rate was not high enough. It decided that it had the power to dictate to each individual how each country should run its economy
@@pegasus223 it is as you say. If only we were smart enough to be anarchosyndicalists...
@@jonatack7693 ok, your vocabulary is now stretching to its furthest limit (or at least mine)
Lol. I'm rewatching for more info about Krishna stuff. I was in n out n around that for decades. But, now you got me curious re patriotism. That I'm trying to understand the push back on ( Trump ) patriotism. Am I blind? @@jonatack7693
