Skier Outruns Massive Avalanche

- This past winter Nick McNutt was skiing in the North Cascades when he faced the most dangerous element of big mountain skiing, an avalanche. Fortunately the Canadian showcased not only his strength as a skier, but his ability to perform under pressure. Nick was able to point his skis and safely ski out of the avalanche. This was captured while he was filming for Teton Gravity Research’s new film “Tight Loose”. The full movie is available now for digital download and on DVD.

"so we're just gonna go ski in the forest, take it easy"
Is attacked by bears
hibernation is a thing.. but I wouldn't doubt it with their luck
LMFAO
more like yeti :O
😄😂🤣
_attacked by incoming kid thats only looking up_
Haha wow that jump out of it was so slick
seemed like it helped him spot the line, might have saved his ass
i love what he identifies as "an island of safety": raging torrent of massive broken slab pieces racing over quite steep rocky outcrop.
well when you say it like that...
I like how the dude literally triggers an avalanche seconds before dropping in and is clearly thinking whatever dude its fine.
Yeah. If he keeps making that decision in the future, he will die.
"Yahh, after that we might need to reassess what were doing" 💀💀
Remember this guy's an expert. If you ever end up in front of an avalanche, don't try to outrun it, just try to go upslope to a divide and out of it's way. Notice how he wasn't skiing directly under it for very long and he got onto a divide as soon as he could.
That jump at 0:33 was his ticket out. Amazing calm from McNutt.
You’re here after the 150 foot and then the 1600 fall
YES
I feel like im being watched-
not me
Nope. I watched Riding Giants surf documentary and was searching for something as thrilling
sometimes I come back to this video just to reealize how crazy it is
Nick McNutt is an awesome skier and this is a sick clip. But... they really should have a "don't try this at home" sort of strap line somewhere so that people don't think they can just out run an avalanche! Get some skills before going into the back country people - the best way to survive an avalanche is to avoid triggering it in the first place. Knowledge is power! (And safety).
RockSnowAndSkate I can outrun any avi I want. I'm the best skier on the mountain!
Currently no avalanches to outrun in my kitchen, I'll try to see if I can find one in the living room.
RockSnowAndSkate yeah they are playing just like if it was cool but this is not funny, too much people die every year killed by avalanches.
Yeah coz also "at home" everyone has a heli-drop mountain and is ready to pump out a giant cliff drop at 80+ kmh...
If someone watches this and thinks they can do it, and then actually attempts it…..they deserve to die.
Quit coddling people. Less pussies, please.
That Cornice Release was amazing! Brings both Awareness and Respect of what is under your Skis or Feet. Thanks for sharing!
"a little spicy"
Bro literally proved you don’t half send ! He fully sent er for the boys now he’s a legend
Nick after almost dying from an avalanche: "Yeah, bit of a red flag" 😂
My RUclips feed is now full of Avalanche videos
"Yeah copy that we might need to reassess what we're doing" lmao 😅
Hallo
Judging by those tracks at the beginning, he was either with his tips or tails right over where it all fell away at some point, terrifying.
"Go Pro: Line of the Winter"
sadly, it wasnt recorded by a gopro
sorry, i was not thinking. dislike me if you want.
that was sick!!
Dude, are you Superman? That was sick!
Props to the dude, cant wait to see him in an action movie one day
Be honest, you went from the 1,600-foot fall off cliff video to this.
nope i came from some guy getting caught in an avalanche but not getting buried under it but standing on it
@@mabelnk nobody asked
@@fbi3233 nobody asked for corona either but you don't see that going away anytime soon
@@mabelnk nobody asked
And I came from the 150 foot one before that
me and my class watch this for a book we were reading and all of us were impressed by how the skier jumped
The cornice blowing out at the beginning- Uggggh whooah!!!!!
I literally said out loud "WOW"!
Legend says the avalance is still trying to catch him.
WOW...that guy KNOWS how to ski.
Before anyone starts questioning the size of this avalanche, you really have to think off how this would feel in person- I've only been caught in snuff and that's enough to take you off your feet, couldn't even imagine the feeling of that
I feel TGR does a better job at showcasing the dangers and not brushing the risks they take aside when compared to other popular videos, especially as of late. The warning signs were there and they have far better capabilities to retrieve someone than your average backcountry skier/snowboarder. I still think this is becoming too much, each year we seem to lose another pro or more because they are constantly pushing the limits and are crunched on time to meet their contracts. While I love seeing someone ride out of one, I appreciate those who opt out altogether even more. Long comment short, make smart decisions people, this stuff looks cool but would brutally kill 99.99% of us.
i will never be this good
POV: You watched a skier do a 100 foot fall, then got recommended a 1600 foot fall, and then got recommended this
Man truly is the ultimate species
Names literally mcnutt what a legend
Who can attest- sick
that was sick
Gunning it down the mountain faster than you’ve ever gone before. Testing the ski’s chatter.
First thought after almost dying in an avalanche: Tree skiing dude!
he wasn't outruns the Avalanche ... HE WAS THE AVALANCHE ... !!
Honestly at 0:31 I just don't get it how did Nick keep his feet on the ground. The weight of the snow and the speed of it moving under his skis is massive.
Point them MFers straight down hill
not to mention he cant see shit....
**Inserts Intense Music** 0:24
madlad's playing ski safari in real life

Skier outruns avalanche - played to music from The Rockford Files.
Me avoiding my responsibilities
My sister worked with a young man who died in an avalanche. They are not a joke.
he escaped like a pro
Escaped like a clown.I guess the close cornice fall didn't alert then to anything.Just skied straight into the line with no knowledge of the snowpack..And this is not a huge avalanche .Size 2-2.5 maybe.A size 3 would of killed him. Pro my a£ss.profesional fool?I wouldn't want my name "teton gravity" Attatched to that shite show.
So few can say they outran and lived!!
Awesome is so over used, but that skiing was truly awesome.
Imagine having snow. (I live in the bottom of Florida)
I came here to learn how get out of an avalanche. I didn't learn a thing that I can use 😵💫
00:07 lol))
if he didn't make that jump he probably would've been stuck in the avalanche
Anyone know the name of that song?
Råg I Ryggen - Queen of Darkness
Crazy chance to be taking with your life.
hey, man, this is a great place, a little scary.
McNutt, isn't that the guy who actually got trapped in an avalanche a few years later and almost died?
these comments yikes, these guys are pros and do this for a living. they take they risk well aware of the consequences. let them be free!
ski review: stability, check. Dampness, check. Float, check.

Its amazing how it attracts attention when somebody does something completly idiotic. We want to see it.., and at the same time the mind goes: what in the world is he doing there??
Anyone know the song?
Råg I Ryggen - Queen of Darkness
If you keep looking for trouble, it'll find you all the time.....
Y'all ever outrun a mountain?
Should be: "Skier CAUSES massive avalanche"
What a boss lol
Music from Sweden Råg I Ryggen
Just a Canadian green run, then.
👍👍👍
In order to out ski ⛷️,out ride a avalanche, you better have the BEST OF THE BEST WAX on the bottom of your skies and snowboard 🏂 money can buy.
If I did this I’d have one of three reactions
1. I will be very scared
2. I would have thought that would have been cool
3. Pls help
Out skies*
