- Don't pay over $100 for a mechanic to tell you what check engine means. Press and hold the trip and reset button, turn key until you hear the beeping (run position), continue to hold the buttons for 5 seconds and "code" will appear on the odometer. Let go and watch the light show. Note any diagnostic codes. Once it's done, remove the key.
If you want a your own scanner that will work on this and MANY more cars this is the one I use and recommend: amzn.to/2JksKUI I will also allow you to reset the codes, to see if a problem has been fixed.
Some autoparts stores (like mine - AdvancedAuto) allow u to borrow their car diagnostic computer (ODB2 OBDII) that can read codes and reset them free. Also a shout-out to forum.chryslerminivan.net/ that site has lots of useful info on T&C's and other Chrysler minivans.

My 1997 Voyager has the same setup, press down the reset and trip button and turn the ignition to on. Wait and watch, it goes through all the instrument gages, my van sat for a year until i got up the nerve to fix it, now it is great.

The cluster on my mothers van has been dead for months. I was about to pull the cluster
out of the dash and try the solder fix but after viewing this, I tried the steps you laid out and the cluster came to life...still working! Thanks!!

This was very helpful! I haven't seen any codes on my 1998 to 2000 Chrysler T&C's, but I'm glad to know I can use this simple procedure if I think there are problems.

My Plymouth Grand Voyager SE 2000 check engine light is out and won't pass smog
Thank you so much! I'm so excited to save money and do this myself. Would you happen to have a similar shortcut for our 1986 Buick Electra? Sometimes dashboard lights illuminate erratically or glow 1 by 1, 2 by 2, etc. Also, we'll be driving along and the seat belt light will flash and ding - without any disturbance to our seat belts, radio, or cruise control on or off - it just happens whenever it wants! The car came with a CB Radio sitting below the dash radio, but it's off most of the time.
Does this test determine if the cluster fuel gauge is inaccurate? We have replaced 3 or 4 sending units / fuel pumps on this vehicle and it still runs out of gas at 1/4 tank on the gauge. Customer also states after filling the tank the gauge will stay on full for a long time, then once it starts to fall, it falls quickly

I did this and the check engine light went off and recalibrated some things but now gas and temp gauge no longer move except while running the test

I think the temp sensor is out. I unhhoked it and both fans run but they were not be which I didn't know until watching a few vids here. TY.
999 can be ignored - but as far as any other error codes, I am not a mechanic or expert. Lots of experts can help you at: chryslerminivan forum in my description. I would try googling and if you can't find it post at that forum. Good luck!
i got code 940 and 999 what do those mean?
Those are the software version codes for the mechanical instrument cluster (MIC). They're not really useful for consumers or technicians, but for factory use.
The fault codes displayed at the end of the dance are from the PCM (ECU). There may be other fault codes stored in other modules that would need a more advanced scan tool to read. A regular OBDII engine code reader won't read transaxle (before about 2003), ABS, BCM, AIRBAG, IPM, FCM, HVAC or other control module faults.
