I have a Mac mini M2 pro and looking to buy a soundbar like yours that had the "HDMI IN" port (not the HDMI ARC) as you mentioned.
Can you share brand and model number of your soundbsr and few other soundbar options that have the "HDMI IN" port specifically.
Also my understanding is that Mac mini M2 pro has an HDMI 2.1 port.
Furher if we explore bluetooth option for a bluetooth soundbar, I understand that "bluetooth audio supports stereo only" and possibly cannot support full surround sound or 3.1 or 5.1 or 7.1, but only 2.1. Pls correct if I am wrong !
And if you use HDMI port of mac mini for audio only to hdmi in of your soundbar , you will need to use TB4 ports for hooking up external displsys.
Now I have an external 4K displsy that supports USB-C and DisplayPort connectors and there is a USB-C cable that comes with this display also. So can I directly connect the TB4 (out) of mac mini to USB-C (in) or DisplayPort(in) of the external display with the usb-c cable or do I need a diferent TB4 cable or some sort of TB4 to DisplayPort or TB4 to USB3 type of adapter ?
    Kindly share your comments.

Does the HDMI 2.0 port on any of the M1 Macs output multi-channel audio(surround sound 5.1 or 7.1) to a A.V receiver? From what I've read they only outputs 2 channel.

This is perfect! I have a Sony sounder that only has HDMI ARC, Bluetooth and Optical, Bluetooth and optical only send stereo sound as far as I can see on my setup, ok for music and games and movies streamed over a web browser but the Apple TV app with movies bought from Apple would send discreet sound, dialogue would be lost in the soundtrack and effects, this has finally allowed my sound bar to move dialogue to the centre and balance all the audio out!

Hey. Great video. I’m in the same situation trying to get sound out my Mac Studio.
Do you have any lip sync issues when using the hdmi out for sound and a monitor from thunderbolt?
    Does the hdmi output 5.1?

This is most helpful! For some reason, my bluetooth connection from my M1 MacMini to the soundbar stopped working, could be my soundbar bluetooth? But a HDMI cable did the trick! Thank you!

Thank you for the great information. You said that a hdmi port is needed, not arc port. I was going to connect my Marshall woburn 3 to mac studio and woburn 3 has only hdmi arc. so does it mean I can't connect each other? I was just about to make an order for hdmi cable.. Thankful for finding out this video before making order.

Ye its a real ball ache! Looks like a lot of the tv soundbars don't recognise the optical digital output from a Mac. I have a Sonos Playbar that wont communicate with my iMac, and the only input on the Playbar is optical digital

I sussed it! You have to turn on TV Autoplay in the Sonos App Settings-Home Theatre-TV Autoplay

I’ve connected via HDMI, optical and Bluetooth to my Sony soundbar from both my 2023 Mac studio and my 2022 MacBook Pro, with films via Apple TV app I often have quiet voices, it’s like the sound bar is thing treated as a surround sound device with the centre speaker turned down… any ideas?

Your best option will probably be the Bluetooth connection.
Just go to the Bluetooth connection on the Mac Studio and search for the Bose, you have to make sure the Bose is in pairing mode.

  • @poojapanchal9509

How do you get 5.1 out using HDMI to soundbar?
Is it possible to hook up the hdmi to a tv and use the ARC out to feed the soundbard to get both picture and sound?
Or is it possble to hook and HDMI to a soundbar that supports 4k passthrough out and connect that to TV for picture and sounds?

    • @zuxyzuxy
      @zuxyzuxy Год назад +2

Both are possible. However, ARC doesn't have enough bandwidth to support 5.1 uncompressed and you need a TV that supports eARC for that. And by using passthrough you'll lose FreeSync.

@@bradleydavidgood I did it successfully with HDFury arcana. But with PCM 2.0 only. My set up is that: HDMI - HDMI to Monitor. Thunderbolt - HDMI to HDFury(HDMI in), HDMI(ears) to Sonos Beam Gen. 2. Please be aware that, since there are 2 video out put from Mac mini, so that, the Displays setting of Mac mini needs to be mirror instead of extend. Besides, after the Mac mini is switched on, you need to replug the HDMI - HDMI to monitor to get the graphic output from this channel instead of the Thunderbolt - HDMI to HDFury channel.

@@min20100925 Thank you for the update, good job. I went with a polk sound bar and sub that uses 3.5mm out of the headphones jack of my M2. I like it because I can adjust the sound level from the keyboard and it sounds great. Hopefully apple and sound bar manufacturers will make it easier in the future.

If you only have HDMI ARC in your soundbar, just use a HDMI to HDMI decoder so that you can connect your Mac to any hometheatre system which has ARC
