The thing with the original is those peaking high notes are what empathises the bass notes making them so satisfying. Where as merely slowing it down and adding a bass booster distorts the entirety of the score high notes and all, leaving less room for that contrast of sound. Edit: yes listening to the original it becomes clear how distorted this is even to the point the bass isn't reaching the same level as before. Oh the clear sweeping sounds of all that brass singing in unison and the beautiful choir. It's good to try mixing things up, because even when it goes awry it reminds us of what we appreciate, cheers.
