My best friend since 6th grade was a good looking, confident guy. He kinda forced me out of my shell twards the end of high school. I always thought I wasn't very attractive for a lot of years, but it turns out Im a pretty good looking guy myself. But I didnt believe it, so I didnt present myself as a good looking guy. I joined the Army soon after that, when I came home I still didnt have much confidence in myself. But one day a woman approached me, and hit on me, a seriously beautiful woman too. I was in a relationship at the time so I didnt let it go anywhere. But it was the confidence boost that I needed, the smack in the face that let me know that I was presenting myself all wrong because I didnt believe in myself for so many years. I carry that confidence boost with me to this day, and that was almost ten years ago.

When Leonard did not realize the situation and laughed you can read disappointment, heartbreak, and anxiety of a posiible rejection on her face. Johnny Galecki also did a really good job here. There was really not much to do with her story wise. Realistically, Leonard would never even consider cheating or replacing Penny, and since she was interested in Leonard, there would be no way she could enter their friend group without the rest noticing there was second interests, since everyone is loyal to Penny, they would never accept her. At the most she could be a comedic relief occasional character that Sheldon could abuse as his assistance (which they did), but that would grew tired very quickly. There would ve been more possibilities for her if they had not made her interested in Leonard.
Happened to me a lot, I've realised years down the line that some girls were hitting on me, fishing for compliments, etc. One girl flat out told me that I don't understand when a girl is interested, and I still didn't get her!
When you're used to rejection,not being noticed or even if they do acknowledge your presence it's more about them making an effort to be "friendly" than them actually wanting to be with you,it crushes your confidence to the point that you'll always be skeptical because you're feeling not worthy of being cared for,there's no real coming back from that. It's true but a small percentage of men including myself knew that they were getting hit on. Here's my story, from the 2nd half of my sophomore year of high school till graduation day I have been hit on by 5 to 6 different girls. I knew what was happening, but the problem was that of all those times they were all taken, while I acknowledged that women like me; however, it was frustrating that I can't ask any of them out without causing any trouble forcing me to pretend nothing happened when in reality something did happen.
