The way he is speaking, he might be a hill person. He kept rank when moving over, which is what happened for JTF2 personal In that time frame. CSOR is a trade with it own MOSID, JTF2 assaulters were not like that, only a few years ago they became a trade. Now in saying that, he joined the Canadian SOF community at around the same time frame CANSOFCOM was created which is same time CSOR stood up.
I'm not sure about the expectation that someone will spend the duration of their career in SOF. There are tons of guys in the line infantry regiments who did time in SOF and went back to their parent regiments. And for officers, it's simply not feasible to spend your entire career in SOF if you expect to make it past major. Other than that, it's abut time these guys had their own cap badge. Seeing all those different cap badges is just goofy!
Nowadays yes it’s very common if you go in SOF to stay there. Bear in mind I’m speaking for the operator/assaulter pipeline. If you go as a support trade you won’t stay entire career. That’s the nuance that many people forget

Yes and no. You technically have 3 categories. Operator/assault. Close support/specialist and supporter. Signallers and medics are close support specialists. Because of their proximity with the door kickers they get more combat training than support troops, but less than operator/assaulters.

More than likely. JTF2 isn’t referred to as the regiment.
Best guess csor, the vids that I've seen portray them like a Green Beret ranger mix. Training with allies and backing up jtf2
