@@vycanismelodis I agree that there is a gap in the scheduling for a car show. But it needs to be something new and different for it to stand any chance of working. Look at what happened with Top Gear… The same will happen with The Grand Tour if they just try to replace the presenters.
So reading these comments - how about i get Jason Cammisa, Autoalex, Mcann, Freddie, Tyler, Bolian, Harris, Fernie & wheel them out for a supercharged track special .?!
Quite frankly my favorite seasons of Top Gear were the early seasons. Drivetribe right now is the closest thing to get that feel. Then the news segment with the three of them laughing and joking around. The big expensive stunts and super cars stood out because they were the dessert after eating your dinner. Get Drive Tribe and… whoever you two know but actually get on with. Chemistry is as important as knowing their cars.
What made the trio work besides their chemistry, was that they were motoring journalists before the shows. They knew cars. It won't using people that only have a vague interest in cars.
I agree. Some random celebrities who like cars aren't going to cut it, particularly if all three think they are number one and they can't get on well enough to build the chemistry together. The obvious possible exception to this would be someone like Tom Cruise.
Exactly. Furthermore, a new trio needs to come in with their own dynamic. I would say Chris Harris, Jason Cammisa, and another auto journalist with a big enough personality to match them.
For me Throttle House is the spiritual successor to the original Top Gear. The dream would be for those guys to get a show with Matt & Tony Armstrong as the resident mechanics.
Top Gear ended when Clarkson, Hammond and May left. The Grand Tour was grand, but it can end with the boys. Redoing it with the same formula without the guys just won't last. Stern and Rogan? Is the Stig on meds? That's absurd.
Yeah, I said myself that I'd watch for THE Ben Collins but Rogen would stop me watching. I hope he was joking with that and Mike simply didn't pick up on that.
The Top Gear reboot (and the various international versions) all proved one thing. You can’t just stick any three idiots in cars and automatically expect it to work. You need the right three idiots. To really duplicate the Top Gear formula, you need to start with a media figure with the stature and credibility that people will take at least somewhat seriously. That person needs a behind-the-scenes partner like Andy Willman. They need to have a solid concept for their show and find two or three other presenters who the main person already works well with. Trying to cast a bunch of individuals and just expecting them to have the same chemistry was never going to work. In Top Gear’s case, you wind up with Chris Evans thinking it’s the Chris Evans Show, Matt LaBlanc thinking it’s the Matt LaBlanc show, and everyone else thinking it’s an ensemble. Clarkson had the advantage of not trying to duplicate an existing show. Instead of trying to reproduce what they created, try to reproduce the process that created it. You might wind up with something completely different, but at least it won’t feel like a stale retread.
Agreed. The first episode hand off should involve a team challenge, Old vs New. Perhaps their version of the Lap of America or a GT or TG version of the Cannon Ball.

I can think of people with qualities in each field that is required (knowledge, story-telling, humour, driving skills, charms). What I can NOT think of is a trio that combines all that in a way that creates the chemistry needed! And by that chemistry I do not only mean friendship, I mean quirkiness, mockery, running gags, habits, national traits etc. And the readiness to travel the world under sometimes rough circumstances and do what has to be done. Those guys may spend most nights in 5 star hotels, but I am sure that the job can become excruciating at times. And the travelling aspect is so linked to TG and TGT that no show can be a worthy successor without the presenters being prepared to go for adventurous journeys together. I see this as the biggest obstacle. I love people like Jason Fenske from Engineering Explained or Ed Bolian or Jason Cammisa, but I cannot imagine them living in neighbouring hotel rooms for weeks and create a strong bond. In short, Clarkson, May and Hammond are irreplaceable! Even though Ben Collins and Chris Harris may seem like a good starting point, I don`t see a British trio tbh. I would rather suggest that Amazon goes all American. Ed Bolian has an attitude that reminds me of Clarkson at times. It might be worth talking to him about a possible cast. But not Freddy or Tyler, they don`t have the stage presence or culture needed. Sorry!
Jimmy Broadbent, Steve Alvarez Brown, Misha Charoudin. Between them all, they have a foot in racing, sim racing, meme pop culture, plus the 3 of them together are hilarious together and have a natural chemistry together. They love cars.
I listened to Tavarish, Hoovie and Ed talk about their Car Trek show, and they confirm that it's a blatant Top Gear rip-off, and yet.... it works for some reason, and is quite popular as a RUclips-only show. They are also planning another one for next year, so the show's do work. Of course, it'll never be on the scale of TG or GT (and nor would they want it to). People forget, but Top Gear Australia is still around, and Fifth Gear has found it's niche. The difficulty is, RUclips is also absolutely flush with car content, and while I do miss TG and GT, whether most of us with admit it or not, there's more than enough content to keep us occupied and (sort-of) happy. Perhaps having tv show that's built around the bigger youtube car guys might be a good thing (but the details will have to be worked out)??? There is also Top Gear on RUclips, with nearly 10M subs, with all the old videos, along with the magazine guys (with Ollie Marriage, etc.) doing all the new content. This format is also doing well, despite the trio not being involved for years. The reality is, if you are gonna have 3 presenters, you'll automatically be the Rip Off show... perhaps they should try something else??? More presenters? More individual content like Old Top Gear used to be (Rob Dahm does this for Top Gear USA), but with a big road trip thrown in as a season finale??? I don't think (and hope) that the format is done. More please!!!!! All the best!
Top Gear, The grand Tour…. This content belongs on a platform like RUclips. When something new comes out, review it immediately, not 12 months later. I don't understand why DRIVETRIBE couldn't have been the new home for Clarkson, Hammond, and May. In the gaps, make a “special”.
I wont be watching any Grand Tour that is not J, J & R. If Amazon want another car show, cool make a new one, I might check it out... But let the Grand Tour end with the boy's, you know the reason for its existence
Here is how you make a new trip work. Have the first episode start with Richard may and Clarkson driving their favourite cars to a studio or location. Then handing over the keys to the cars they drove there in and go from there. Will give the sense of it's not a replacement but a hand over/reboot. Not a replacement but a continuation of the story.
You have all basis covered with that combination. You have the experience of Metcalf , the ability of Harris and the comic relief of Smith and Sniff . Richard Porter is a comedy genius and Jonny is the everyman . There is someone there that we can all relate to .
I think that rather than trying to have another Top Gear or The Grand Tour, people just need to realize that those shows were lightning in a bottle and trying to recapture that is a fools errand. If something as good as those shows is going to come back, it has to do so naturally.
The presenters need to be buddies or have great chemistry, the laughter and genuine parts were the best parts and why it’s rewatchable even tho the cars and politics might be outdated. I have a two buddies and we go on a long weeklong 500 mile+ bicycle trips every two years, we simultaneous love and hate each other and it’s the best most chaotic rememberable week.
They have to face it, times have changed. Not only was it the talent originally but since then RUclips has provided a huge list of options that no one will likely successfully compete against. It's over boys, it's been over for a while.
Original trio worked so well because they were all well read, educated, knew a lot of about cars, driving, general culture to connect with people from all walks of life. Never shied away from laughing at their own expense and knew what would make a great TV. Additionally they all had their own little corners of interests which contrasted with others. There are plenty of decent automotive journos, but none have all these components, some are quirky, some are very knowledgeable, some very "laddish", other can drive, but that's it. I'd say what we need is at least one of them to be not involved with cars but quite eccentric and of comedic background, like Theo Von, then someone who can drive like Harris and last one to keep everyone in check and who will keep facts straight and not only looking at the Porsches, like Porter from old Top Gear.
DRIVETRIBE is already the natural successor. The reigns have already been passed over to your team. You have great content and chemistry. Keep doing what you are doing!
The most important thing for amazon to do, is be realistic and scale down the "entertainment" aspect quite a lot and just make it about cars and fun little challenges and then expand the scale of it as they go along if needed.. There's plenty of interesting candidates in the Autoalex cars, TDC and ATG trinity to pick from. They'd pretty much have a solid fanbase already...
People here are overthinking the automotive bit. TGT and TG were far more a Buddy roadtrip show than anything else. The OG American TG had that part down with Faust and Wood. Go all in with that premise.
For the record, I'm all for continuing with three new presenters. However, the issue with doing so is that Amazon isn't going to just hand it off to the new guys and let them do it however they want, like the original trio had free rein to do. Amazon is going to want to have their fingers in the pot and control every aspect of whatever the new show becomes, which just won't work for the style of show Clarkson Hammond and May had!
If we need a story teller, Jason Cammisa is one of the best ones out there today in Automotive media land. Add the Thomas and James for Throttlehouse and you’re getting quite the chemistry. A Brit, a Canadian and. Well travelled and worldly American.
Himself and whoever was my initial thought, but I prefer Ben on RUclips. Besides - Ben on RUclips is about cars. The waiting months between episodes of GT was a pita. I prefer the every few days or whenever of RUclips. For the future of GT.. the reasons it worked have left now. It’ll just be TG all over again. So give it to Chris Evans lol
As much as I like the three, they are not what I’d want for that show. None have that comedic wit about them. Ed Bolian would be very boring…like a teacher or librarian.
LOL no way. They're big youtubers no doubt. But they don't have charming personalities or the right kind of humor. We need 3 not-so-famous yet blokes who just click.
For me, Ed March of c90adventures is a one man low budget Grand Tour. He is probably always going to prefer doing his own thing but he is very funny, sometimes corny, and has the ability to tell a story.
Ben, I'm very disappointed that you came to my stomping ground and i wasnt even invited to show you round, i thought we were friends!! 😂 In all seriousness though, I'd love a crack at being a presenter on either TG or TGT you'd never be able to replicate the chemistry of the trio and that's where the TG reboot failed.
Three car guys with experience in front of a camera, who have also gone on plenty of wacky adventures. Preferably not all from the UK, and each with their own distinctive personality. Chris Harris Tyler Hoover Blair Jocelyne (a.k.a. MOOG) Assuming of course these three have chemistry, but they all seem like pretty easy going guys.
They need to completely start from 0 and reinvent it. Id even start with a new name. You cant just throw 3 random guys in and think it will work. Clarkson himself said it would be best if it would be basically someone unknown from the street.
Rowan Atkinson is a true legend, Into cars, and a distinct and a familiar voice I would listen to for narration. Ben Colins is a great choice for his experience. And a mechanic is needed and someone with a good sense of humor. I'm thinking Turbo Yoda (Al from the skid factory and Might Car Mods) Any RUclips personality would be destroy their channel by going to the Grand Tour. Trolls will rip them to shreds. Show has to be fresh and different and not try to be a rehash of what James, Richard and Jeromy have done already.
Personally I would love to see Daniel Riccardo in some variation of either show, he has the driving experience, the charisma and comedy, and he deserves a win after his treatment in formula one
If they do pick a new trio, those three are going to need very thick skin, and be comfortable in that thick skin as they make the show their own. Because us fans are brutal..
The only way to make it work is to not try to replace them. Three new presenters each episode: One car journalist, one comedian, one wildcard. If the audience hates one or all of them, it's not a problem, there will be new ones along next week.
Are you effing kidding me? NOBODY should ever offer Joe Rogan anything that lends toward validity or credibility these days. Anyone who caters to conspiracy theorists and the willingly uneducated is not worthy of this offering.
Jason Camissa plus Derick Tam Hyphen Scott plus Thomas and James from Throttle House (with Randy Pobst in the Stig’s roll). Car knowledge is off the charts. Cheeky humor, again out of the ball park. Attention to detail, meticulous. Creative storytelling, I would argue best in the business. 4 very different personalities, absolutely. Camissa - the mad genius Hyphen - the stats straight man Thomas - Uber enthusiast James - the lovable cheeky one ALL of them up for a laugh, all of them proven auto journalists, all of them incredible storytellers, and most importantly of all, all of them proven to be work together well. It would be like Top Gear, Grand Tour, Laugh-In, and a Nature special all wrapped into one.

Jimmy Broadbent, Steve Alvarez Brown, Misha Charoudin. Between them all, they have a foot in racing, sim racing, meme pop culture, plus the 3 of them together are hilarious together and have a natural chemistry together. They love cars.
Jimmer is absolutely the Hammond of the group
Plz no punterino Jimmer
@woundedcrow4606 They would be the best trio for the job! For sure !
1:35 ok. I will do it. You don't have to twist my arm.
Drivetribe is currently filling the void left by GT & TG
Keep up the good work
I wont be watching any Grand Tour that is not J, J & R.
Not boring celebs thank you.
No way! Ben you're a legend! Are you doing cartrek?
Is that guy Gary glitter still around? How about him and a couple boy scouts? There would always be dynamic tension
In just seven days, I will build you a MA AH AN.............
IMHO, Chris Harris, Tanner Faust and Mike!
Chris Harris, Sniff & Smith and Harry Metcalf.
Smith & sniff and Chris Harris as the trio. Harry as a special correspondent
I can see porter taking it on..
@@geek9642 he is an original after all
Seriously chuffed by the thought of Smith and Porter interacting with Harry Metcalf on camera.
Ben Collins, izzy Hammond and either Eddie Hall or Freddie Flintoff.
You'll have an expert, rookie and mad man. The perfect combo
Guy Martin was a name that came up a lot when Jezza got told his contract wasn't going to be renewed. He has to be considered.
I won’t watch anything Rogan is in. Hard no.
I actually enjoyed the Top Gear US show with Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust, Rutledge Wood. Thought they worked well!
My short list:
Chris Harris
Jason Camisa
Tiff Niddle
Ben Collins
I would watch every second of it!
DRIVETRIBE is already the natural successor. The reigns have already been passed over to your team. You have great content and chemistry. Keep doing what you are doing!
LOL. Worst take.
Are you being serious....??? You can't be....😮
The most important thing for amazon to do, is be realistic and scale down the "entertainment" aspect quite a lot and just make it about cars and fun little challenges and then expand the scale of it as they go along if needed..
Alright I'll do it, I'm 21 from Latvia, have lexus is200 , and cars are life
For the record, I'm all for continuing with three new presenters.
Rebrand, would love to see the old stig and youtubers luke @carswithluke on the show
Matt Armstrong and the lads from tdc and autoalex get my vote 👍🏻
With Ben as a talking Stig.
Taylor Hetherington, Izzy Hammond, Edwin Klinkenberg. Occasionally guest starring Ben Collins and Mike Fernie
I think Ben would probably be one of the only people who wouldnt get any hate for stepping in to the role, hes the bloody stig at the end of the day
Ben and the throttle house guys. Or just the throttle house guys. It doesn't need to be three.
Ed Bolian, Tyler Hoover, and Freddie Hernandez. And change the name from Grand Tour to Car Trek :D
They´re just not that funny.
Yes! I was going to say this
They are mediocre at it. Too forced, too faked bad acting
I've been watching the new Australian to gear and while it is a bit dicey, Blair from might car mods is an absolute shining light- he'd be great
I’d definitely agree with Blair as a potential host, he seems like he’d be pretty easy to get along with if thrown into the mix
For me, Ed March of c90adventures is a one man low budget Grand Tour. He is probably always going to prefer doing his own thing but he is very funny, sometimes corny, and has the ability to tell a story.
Amazon should just leave the GT alone. Start something else. Leave GT to the Golden Trio.
No 😂
Ben, I'm very disappointed that you came to my stomping ground and i wasnt even invited to show you round, i thought we were friends!! 😂
In all seriousness though, I'd love a crack at being a presenter on either TG or TGT you'd never be able to replicate the chemistry of the trio and that's where the TG reboot failed.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Ben, Izzy, Lucy, and Caleb. Have Ben be like the teacher and have Clarkson, May, and Hammond come on different shows.
Three car guys with experience in front of a camera, who have also gone on plenty of wacky adventures. Preferably not all from the UK, and each with their own distinctive personality.
Chris Harris
Tyler Hoover
Blair Jocelyne (a.k.a. MOOG)
Assuming of course these three have chemistry, but they all seem like pretty easy going guys.
Ben Collin’s for grand tour 100%
Personally I would love to see Daniel Riccardo in some variation of either show, he has the driving experience, the charisma and comedy, and he deserves a win after his treatment in formula one
I nominate Jimmy Broadbent
If they do pick a new trio, those three are going to need very thick skin, and be comfortable in that thick skin as they make the show their own. Because us fans are brutal..
Actually, Caleb Cooper is ready to be the host of this show. Because he has a character
Ben Collins, Jenson Button & Chris Harris would be the trio I’d pick 😉
The only way to make it work is to not try to replace them. Three new presenters each episode: One car journalist, one comedian, one wildcard. If the audience hates one or all of them, it's not a problem, there will be new ones along next week.
Are you effing kidding me? NOBODY should ever offer Joe Rogan anything that lends toward validity or credibility these days. Anyone who caters to conspiracy theorists and the willingly uneducated is not worthy of this offering.
🥱
@@tomgibbons2475I agree that's how Rogan makes me feel too
oh grow up, you lefties hate anyone who isn’t blinded by the same ideology. MAGA🇺🇸
If you dislike Rogan then idk why you’d watch anything with Clarkson in it they believe and say a lot of the same things
Imagine thinking this about Rogan and then Idolising a show made by and hosted by Clarkson
Camissa - the mad genius
Hyphen - the stats straight man
Thomas - Uber enthusiast
James - the lovable cheeky one
ALL of them up for a laugh, all of them proven auto journalists, all of them incredible storytellers, and most importantly of all, all of them proven to be work together well.
It would be like Top Gear, Grand Tour, Laugh-In, and a Nature special all wrapped into one.
For me, I think it would be better if the announcers don't talk and only the stig does.
