  • It's time to restore the backbone of any good work shop (Pun intended). A Tenon or Back saw. This rusty one came out of a bin but has turned around nicely. In the video I go through and clean the rust, replace the fixing nuts and refinish the handle before finally giving it a good sharpen. I also find an old microscope to get a good look at that surface finish. Enjoy!

Maybe a video on making a new handle in a more traditional shape?

Your videos are the bomb. The restoration is spot on and your narration sets it apart from the rest of us. Excellent work. Cheers!

Very interesting and informative video! Shout out to my grandson Jimmy for showing it to me. In my day we used to call these back-and-forthies. You could only get bronze ones, because of the war.

Hi everyone, I have tried to do a little less talking and provide some more written info in this video.
    What do you all prefer??

This style of narration seems to suit you well.
It also differentiates you from the majority of restoration channels, which either have no commentary or music (which I don't prefer).
I would recommend sticking with what feels the most comfortable to you.
Also, good job on explaining the detail witch the set of the teeth and the sufrace finish, the microscope vide inlay is awesome!

Thanks for the awesome feedback. I think I'll keep it similar to this video from now on and I'll keep up the microscope parts too!

Talking is fine, mate. I would have tightened up the set of that saw, and probably shaped the handle into something that fits your hand a little better, and looks a little better. Great video, that saw plate looks fantastic!

It's easy to remove the brass backing piece, just an interference fit. Hold the blade in a vice and tap the brass with a piece of wood, once you have finished cleaning the blade, you can just tap it back on.

I had hoped for that, but didn't want to risk it. Would have made parts a lot easier.

You sharpened the teeth , but didn't set them which is why it took you ages to saw through the piece of wood at the end

Agreed. They still had a slight set but not enough. I have been looking for an old saw setter but don't see them pop up often.
