Such a good father.
My mom and dad weren't keen on fishing so I learned by going camping with my aunt's and cousins. It was great. This makes me want to get some gear and a license. I never really care if I catch anything. It's sitting outside by a lake a enjoying the peace and quiet. Thank you aunt Mabel and aunt Francis. Miss you!

It's really nice to share this family time with us. Never to old to learn new skills. I'm reminded of the quote attributed to Mark Twain: "When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years."

I can appreciate the joy it must be to have a daughter (or son for that matter) that takes a keen interest in the outdoors and has a sincere desire to learn all the skills it takes to survive in the wilderness. It's not all fun and sometimes downright painful to set out on backpacking trips and camping, but its super rewarding during the sweet times and it's all worth it and is even better if someone you have a close relationship with shares that passion for the outdoors.
Emily is lucky to have a Dad like you who will teach her all this awesome outdoor stuff. You’re lucky to have a daughter who loves the outdoors and wants to learn from you and hang with her Dad. 👍
You can tell she enjoys being with her dad, you both are so blessed. I enjoy watching both you and your daughter's videos, sometimes I find myself watching them 2and3 times. Never get tired of watching Calling swim after her toy. You are a awesome family. God Bless You all

Your a good dad. I never got to tent camp untill i got married and told my husband, we're going to Canada and camping on a island. We had alot of stuff! Good thing because we were camped on a giant rock at a angle and put stuff at our feet to keep from sliding down. The cooler an giant suitcase kept the tent from blowing away because we couldn't stake it on the rock. Our tent was a 10 by 10 canvas with a thick plastic floor. Took up half the boat. Heavy! I never really had a father and never knew how much I missed it until I was older. Now things like this really choke me up. How different would life be with a dad. I hope your daughters appreciate you, Shawn.
Not necessarily. Not all dads go camping or get involved with their kids. It's a big hole but many others can fill it, including yourself, tough as that sounds. I wish you the best.

SHAWN & OUR CALI & EMILY !!! That is how I used to do things sleep in the canoe on land dog in front of me then for warmth and to protect me !!! It is great to see a Daughter and Father out together !!!

I never had the pleasure of camping with my parents. We camped in the wild with our boys, nature was our bathroom….. no luxury. Both of our sons still love camping with their families just like they did with us. Watching you with your daughter has awakened memories and a huge smile. Emily, cherish these times as if they were diamonds and gold…….

When my dad would take me out on a fishing/camping trip, he taught me to identify trees, plants and bushes. I still remember vividly, his teaching me how to identify red oak from white oak, birch and pine, through leaves and bark. What burned hot and what burned for starter. He taught me first aid in the bush. How to tie a hook and lure. Fillet a fish and the best ground for a tent. We would go out at all seasons, even winter in a tent. It was awesome and moments I’ve never forgot and I teach my kids self reliance.
Love this father daughter relationship. I follow Emily's channel too, that little lady has more skills than me 😄
This video conjures up memories of the days my father took my sister and I fishing- we loved him so much for taking the time to be with us, to teach us life skills but more importantly to have those heart to hearts with us which brought us close together- now that my father is nearing his end of life after suffering 2 heart attacks recently, it’s those trips with him and all the gardening we did together , the outdoor life lessons he taught us, those are special moments that swell in my heart- I’m going to sit and watch some of your videos with him- he is a salt of the earth kind of man, much like yourself- a kind man with a heart of gold - thank you 🙏

As a child I literally used to dream of my dad taking me (us) camping! My parents grew up (and worked hard) on farms and had no interest in any more outdoor time! I started hiking, camping, camp cooking, cabin living, canoeing etc in my early adulthood.

The fun part is that Cali is doing the very same thing mine does, they dont bring the toy back and put it down, it more like" Look i gof the darn thing back, the least you coul d do is throw it again NOW!!!
My Sebastion waits untill i sit down, and then barks at me to let him outside, he does the same from outside when he comes back, standing with is nose on the glass door with that come on hurry look on his face, just in case there is something be is missing out on like food of some sort, they real,y are great though.

My grandpa always said more big fish get caught on old Zebco 202 rods than anything else. It’s a great simple rod for beginners to masters.

Teaching your daughter where to pitch a tent and tossing the dog toy in the water was fun. You picked up the tent, then the toy and for one second I was waiting for the tent to go flying in the water instead of the toy. But thankfully no. Giving Emily great advice and sharing with us is wonderful. Thanks
My wife and I watched the initial video and I chuckled at the two shots of your daughter looking at you over her shoulder with a fish on the ground. I told my wife, "That is the, 'Dad, can you take it off the hook' look. I've seen that before!" And I love it! Fishing with my daughter(s) is one of life's greatest joys!
Creating memories and skills.
I remember when my dad took us fishing in the creek. Cane poles, fish worms and bobbers. How he ever was able to fish with 3 girls is beyond me. Loved those days even more now.

Salut from one hatched in Fort Gary, Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada in 1952. My late father was RCAF instructor during WWII in Manitoba. My late uncle's grain farm is in Ontario.

And the nice thing is, after dad has taught her, without criticism, all the things she needs to know about camping and she goes out with a guy and he assumes she needs help ........ then learns she doesn't NEED his help. Especially when she says to him, "Here, let me show you how to do that." Dad, you done good.

I am guessing that of your 2 daughters, that Emily was always the tomboy, following Dad around. Nice to see the close relationship that the 2 of you share when it comes to self reliance and enjoying nature. I subscribed to her channel shortly after she started it - she is a joy to watch, continuing in the things learned while growing up as your daughter.
If she was a tomboy and always following her dad around you'd think she would have learned how to do all this stuff when she was a kid. My guess is the opposite. A new found interest after growing up a bit and realizing that hanging out with your dad is actually a lot more cool than worrying about being cool. All speculation of course.

I was 8 the first time dad took me trout fishing. I was standing in a boulder near edge of stream when I caught my first fish. I was so excited I slipped & fell into the stream. Dad jumped in & fished me & my fishing pole out. I never let go of the pole..
Making memories
Shawn, great watching you pass down your wisdom to your daughter. She'll then pass it down to the grand kids someday. I learned fishing when I was about 8 in Iron Mountain, MI with my uncle who always took me out and learned camping with my parents at 10. Very good to have those skills. Take Care Brother
Oh my gosh, imagine Shawn being your grandpa and hanging with him at the homestead, learning it all from him. I spent a ton of time with my grandparents growing up, such a special relationship. I was literally born the same day/month/year and city as Shawn but I'd love to be his grandkid, lol.
