I find abstract art hit or miss like that. It either works for you, or it doesn't, and what works is going to be different for everybody. I'd find someone who consistently liked abstract art broadly rather suspect, tbh.

im autistic. im "higher functioning" as they like to call it (i dont personally like that term though), but im largely nonverbal in person and have issues functioning with other things. Niam's mother is a wonderful lady and im so happy to see that shes so supportive of his passions and isn't forcing him to sell or paint. she isn't exploiting this, she is supporting it and only sells a painting if he's alright with it. as an autistic person myself, i can really relate to Niam. Due to my "high functioning" status (again, i really dislike that term but what else am i supposed to call it) i went to university and became a "gifted student" just because of my grades but, ultimately, i had to drop out due to the overwhelmings stress and the fact that i just didn't like it. now, i paint and draw. im not a good artist but i can completely relate to Niam finding a form of communication through abstract art. i love the way paint squishes in my hands and i dont personally like using many brushes because i like the textures of the paint and canvas. my mom isnt too fond of art. i hope that one day my mom will be as supportive as his
@2 MD yeah I agree, it's pretty annoying and bad how so many people wanna make everyone else like them, and so many people have group think and what not, it's best to not try to satisfy them and be someone else for them, it's best to just be who you are, to just be you and then you'll find people who actually care and like you for you because you won't be hiding it and well they'll see you and good company will come

You can get allot of answers about someones mental health by looking at their art. I have had many people point out things which are true. I have changed up my art allot since last year, Ive split my art/profiles and allot of my art has been removed since they werent great photo's of my work. Amazing! It's seriously a skill, that most of us actually find the most peace and distraction in. I have BPD and just finally found enough confidence and mental freedom to do art and it's awesome. There's not one person in my therapy group, that hated it. We all enjoyed it and created amazing pieces.

I adore this texture. Build up of texture is difficult to make so rich due to the insane drying time of oils. He understands this, and makes good use of both color and texture. I am an Art Historian and abstract isn't really my thing (I prefer impressionism) but abstract, despite its "simple" nature is very impressive and awe inspiring in person, especially the sizes of canvasses he chooses. But, that aside, it doesn't really matter if you "get it" or think it's "not art", the comment section of this video is appalling and some of the commentators should feel ashamed by the things they've written about this young artist.

Well if Rembrandt already existed, what's the use in trying to be Rembrandt? If the camera exists, what's the point in saying that an artist is only valuable if they're painting something that "looks real"? If we're basing the value of people based on if they're as good as Rembrandt, then we should stop making paint because it’s not going to happen. Plus there's cameras that recreate what we see with our eyes with exact detail, so what's the point?? The thing is, he's not trying to be Rembrandt. He probably doesn't even know who that is. There is actually a lot of skill involved in what he's doing with those colours. He isn't trained so he is working intuitively and that's impressive. He is respecting the rules of art and creating works that rival veteran artists. People are hating because they don't understand or recognize what makes his art "good." They may not like the style, or not understand what makes any artwork effective.

Nick Player the fact that he can't talk doesn't mean that he can't completely communicate. Many people who struggle with verbal communication apt for art to tell their story. Also, abstract art can be difficult to pull off. You need an understanding of texture, form and colour theory (to say the least).

These abstracts speak to me . It not just a mess of paint like other " prodigies I've seen . Even with abstract I think they need to speak to you . Emotions , depth should be there . He has it .
Art classes aren't very welcome of more abstract art and really restrict students creativity. It just goes to show that the education system isn't very good.

This is a sensitive topic, and anyone else not understanding the art, you are not alone. Just because you don't like his art work doesn't make you a bad person. Had this not been an autistic person, more people would have been openly critical about this topic. However he is autistic, and that changes the manner in which this video would be approached. I do like his art work in that sense, but i would be truthful and say that i do not like this style of art.
It is similar to the work of Jackson Pollok and isn't really about the shapes(which most art is), but more about the chaotic colours and contrast. A lot of art is used to tell a story, this kind of art is used to portray chaos and feelings. To create this you need a good technique and skill to make sure the colours look stiking and don't mix together into a brown when trying to create texture. So I'd say even if he wasn't autistic that there wouldn't be a lot to critique him on. It's his emotions, his art, he will know it's flaws better than anyone else.

My feelings too . . . well said. If this were done by an average person it may not sell as well. Also, because of Niam's limitations it feels more genuine in the concept of conveying emotions into color and form.
People who think it's easy to just splash colors on canvas should really try it before they speak. This kid seems to grasp what colors go well, and what dont. What mix, and what dont. Half the time I've tried to make things like this I end up chucking the canvas away because the paints melt together and make aweful colors or it just looks bad lol. I really liked quite a few of the color combos he had in this video, if I had the cash I would buy some!
This is very sad part In world of art... I you are really good artist but you dont have a nice story tell then you will not have the chance to be become famous.. but if you are not that good but you have a nice story.. then boom!! Instantly famous... for this boy I appreciate the richness of colors very nice.. hes lucky he has people around him who are good in story telling and a masters in marketing.

I feel like people think that abstract art is easy. You just get different paints and put it onto a canvas. In some cases that might be true but most of the time abstract art is way harder than just putting paint onto a canvas. Plus, that mom is a good mom
Charlostain Sawshades That’s the same thing with mumble rap and true meaningful rap, or Pop music and Classical music. The consensus on who likes what will always be split in the arts and that’s completely fine, however I think realism and extreme photorealistic art is more like classical music, it’s complex, there’s a lot of rules to follow and a lot of people take it as being boring, while abstract art is like pop music, it can be vivid and showcase emotions like a rap song or be absolutely horrible and meaningless like most mumble rap songs. Abstract art really doesn’t have any rules, except for maybe sticking to the colour wheel, it’s simple in its ways like Jazz and a lot of people like it.
No matter the art level or style, the person is still an artist. Abstract paintings are just as much as real art as graphic digital art. I'm an artist and I understand what it's like. But since I don't have severe cognitive disabilities, I will never make it to the news like this kid did. Another thing to add, I'm not an abstract artist. I'm a digital artist. But I also draw with pencils on paper.
I absolutely love this. I am mildly autsistic and also have a deep passion for art. I really want to follow my dreams like he is doing and he inspires me a lot. He has no boundaries and I wish to be like that someday too. Depression is keeping me from doing that but watching this gave me something to think about, some light in the dark. Keep it up Niam!

Art is so therapeutic, I use art as well to help myself deal with my anxiety and depression. With art you can express the feelings you don't know how to express with words
He’s not a prodigy, he’s a savant. He’s amazing, the layers and technique are unbelievable. I could see his painting in a famous art museum and think they were by someone famous.
I have been doing art for a few years now and I can understand the expressions he puts into these paintings. He really has a gift. For those of u haters in the comments, I’d like to say maybe u just see it as him smothering paint on a canvas but I really see his expressions and emotions in those paintings. He has such talent that maybe only artists can see themselves as it seems, but he really does and he is amazing. I agree with you, lots of abstracts aren’t easy, all artworks have to be like that or no one will buy it. But, lots of people here aren’t haters, they’re just saying that they don’t like the artwork, which is perfectly fine. Everyone perceives art in a different way. You don’t need to be good at art to have opinions on artwork.

I am an artist. I sketch 3d imagined city scapes that are highly realistic. I can visualize my city as I pencil or pen them. beforehand. he certainly is doing this as well. he has a remarkable gift.

Abstract is much harder than it appears. I’m an artist who’s practiced with many mediums, and who specializes in realism and concept sketching, but never have I ever struggled with something as much as I have with abstract. There is so much more too it than it looks. He’s done a marvelous job with his paintings.
I love this mother 💕 that she saw the spark in him at the first sight while he was creating, and did everything within her reach to nurture that flame 🔥 also her skills marketing him to make money back from his paintings so he can buy more supplies and maybe have a savings is pretty clever ! I’m dyslexic and I do have adhd. I’m planning to take fine art since water colour is my main media but people around me still think that you can’t make money with art. This is both inspiring and hurtful for me. I still keep my artwork and portfolio but I don’t think I can be as successful as him.
Gowther Helbram Dont give up on your art. Most of us won’t make money at it. It seems kind of a random thing, who gets promoted and who doesn’t. There is probably more to this story than they are telling. Art supplies can be expensive, canvas is expensive, and so is promoting it, but if you love it, do it for your passion. Don’t let it hurt when if you don’t end up winning awards of having public acclaim. Take the inspiration and go with that. I am sure that your work brings joy and a new vision to the World. Your success is in your joy of painting. Nobody can take that away, even if you become famous.
I have dyslexia and Adhd too, I am on a BA (Hons) Fine Art course - final year. I feel this empowers my creativeness and I also think in pictures. You need to get yourself out there as an artist - show your work, create a blog/Web page. I also love photography as well. Keep doing what you are doing. You can do it. It can make or break a person when trying to get recognised, I was told. I am on the same journey too. Good luck.
Just saying that with water colour and realism, it actually takes time and practice while abstract art I think doesn't require that much since there are no real boundaries that separates it from being good or bad. It's just whether it's interesting or not.
I love his Pollock-esque ones and great to see this kid find something so amazing that gives him a focus each day :) If I could afford it I would buy one of his works for sure and have it shipped here to Europe.
I can assume that his parent manages his finances and/or manage his trust. They won't always be there for him, and I'm certain they have made accommodations for his care. Taking care of special needs requires time, effort, and money. With a trust, it can be set up to provide income for the remainder of his life, once they pass. I wish them the greatest of successes.
I'm very happy for this kid, it's great that he's able to use art as a productive outlet and that his mother is so supportive. That being said this type of abstract art is incredibly over rated, it honestly doesn't take much skill or talent to create. Young or old, autistic or neurotypical, most people could successfully produce this type of art even with limited practice.
I had to do abstract art for an assignment and it's a lot harder than just throwing paint. It's about letting some areas dry than layer color... at least for me it was way more technical. Definitely not easy
As a abstract artist,I am quite impressed. He is free with his work and that's what I love because you shouldn't be so rigorous with your flow. I would hang a painting or two in my house. Jackson Pollack 3.0? Gonna bust out my large canvases in honor of his art now.

Why is almost every comment about his art negative? As an artist myself I can see the beauty of his paintings. Abstract paintings aren't as easy to creat as you might think. If you don't like it, then just ignore it instead of being so bashful towards the paintings.

Nick Player the fact that he can't talk doesn't mean that he can't completely communicate. Many people who struggle with verbal communication apt for art to tell their story. Also, abstract art can be difficult to pull off. You need an understanding of texture, form and colour theory (to say the least).

Art classes aren't very welcome of more abstract art and really restrict students creativity. It just goes to show that the education system isn't very good.

Being autistic myself, it’s deeply important for me to see that. I’m highly creative too and knowing that there are people who do want to understand all of us on the spectrum, it leaves me with hope 😊

This is a sensitive topic, and anyone else not understanding the art, you are not alone. Just because you don't like his art work doesn't make you a bad person. Had this not been an autistic person, more people would have been openly critical about this topic. However he is autistic, and that changes the manner in which this video would be approached. I do like his art work in that sense, but i would be truthful and say that i do not like this style of art.
It is similar to the work of Jackson Pollok and isn't really about the shapes(which most art is), but more about the chaotic colours and contrast. A lot of art is used to tell a story, this kind of art is used to portray chaos and feelings. To create this you need a good technique and skill to make sure the colours look stiking and don't mix together into a brown when trying to create texture. So I'd say even if he wasn't autistic that there wouldn't be a lot to critique him on. It's his emotions, his art, he will know it's flaws better than anyone else.

My feelings too . . . well said. If this were done by an average person it may not sell as well. Also, because of Niam's limitations it feels more genuine in the concept of conveying emotions into color and form.
Well not everybody is a fan of abstract. As an artist myself, i actually find it hard to draw ‘abstract’ pieces. Some people are just... good at it.

The range of compositional technique and creation of motifs is crazy for a thirteen year old.
People who think it's easy to just splash colors on canvas should really try it before they speak. This kid seems to grasp what colors go well, and what dont. What mix, and what dont. Half the time I've tried to make things like this I end up chucking the canvas away because the paints melt together and make aweful colors or it just looks bad lol. I really liked quite a few of the color combos he had in this video, if I had the cash I would buy some!
This is very sad part In world of art... I you are really good artist but you dont have a nice story tell then you will not have the chance to be become famous.. but if you are not that good but you have a nice story.. then boom!! Instantly famous... for this boy I appreciate the richness of colors very nice.. hes lucky he has people around him who are good in story telling and a masters in marketing.

Charlostain Sawshades That’s the same thing with mumble rap and true meaningful rap, or Pop music and Classical music. The consensus on who likes what will always be split in the arts and that’s completely fine, however I think realism and extreme photorealistic art is more like classical music, it’s complex, there’s a lot of rules to follow and a lot of people take it as being boring, while abstract art is like pop music, it can be vivid and showcase emotions like a rap song or be absolutely horrible and meaningless like most mumble rap songs. Abstract art really doesn’t have any rules, except for maybe sticking to the colour wheel, it’s simple in its ways like Jazz and a lot of people like it.

No matter the art level or style, the person is still an artist. Abstract paintings are just as much as real art as graphic digital art. I'm an artist and I understand what it's like. But since I don't have severe cognitive disabilities, I will never make it to the news like this kid did.
Another thing to add, I'm not an abstract artist. I'm a digital artist. But I also draw with pencils on paper.

I absolutely love this. I am mildly autsistic and also have a deep passion for art. I really want to follow my dreams like he is doing and he inspires me a lot. He has no boundaries and I wish to be like that someday too. Depression is keeping me from doing that but watching this gave me something to think about, some light in the dark. Keep it up Niam!

For those of u haters in the comments, I’d like to say maybe u just see it as him smothering paint on a canvas but I really see his expressions and emotions in those paintings. I agree with you, lots of abstracts aren’t easy, all artworks have to be like that or no one will buy it. But, lots of people here aren’t haters, they’re just saying that they don’t like the artwork, which is perfectly fine. Everyone perceives art in a different way. You don’t need to be good at art to have opinions on artwork.

I am an artist. I sketch 3d imagined city scapes that are highly realistic. I can visualize my city as I pencil or pen them. beforehand. he certainly is doing this as well. he has a remarkable gift.

I have Asperger’s syndrome. Abstract art isn’t my favorite thing but Niam definitely has a gift for art. (I do love my adult coloring books though).

Abstract is much harder than it appears. I’m an artist who’s practiced with many mediums, and who specializes in realism and concept sketching, but never have I ever struggled with something as much as I have with abstract. There is so much more too it than it looks. He’s done a marvelous job with his paintings.

I’m dyslexic and I do have adhd. I’m planning to take fine art since water colour is my main media but people around me still think that you can’t make money with art. This is both inspiring and hurtful for me. I still keep my artwork and portfolio but I don’t think I can be as successful as him.
Gowther Helbram Dont give up on your art. Most of us won’t make money at it. It seems kind of a random thing, who gets promoted and who doesn’t. There is probably more to this story than they are telling. Art supplies can be expensive, canvas is expensive, and so is promoting it, but if you love it, do it for your passion. Don’t let it hurt when if you don’t end up winning awards of having public acclaim.
Take the inspiration and go with that. I am sure that your work brings joy and a new vision to the World. Your success is in your joy of painting. Nobody can take that away, even if you become famous.
I have dyslexia and Adhd too, I am on a BA (Hons) Fine Art course - final year. I feel this empowers my creativeness and I also think in pictures. You need to get yourself out there as an artist - show your work, create a blog/Web page. I also love photography as well. Keep doing what you are doing. You can do it. It can make or break a person when trying to get recognised, I was told. I am on the same journey too. Good luck.
Just saying that with water colour and realism, it actually takes time and practice while abstract art I think doesn't require that much since there are no real boundaries that separates it from being good or bad. It's just whether it's interesting or not.

I can assume that his parent manages his finances and/or manage his trust. They won't always be there for him, and I'm certain they have made accommodations for his care. Taking care of special needs requires time, effort, and money. With a trust, it can be set up to provide income for the remainder of his life, once they pass. I wish them the greatest of successes.
I'm very happy for this kid, it's great that he's able to use art as a productive outlet and that his mother is so supportive. That being said this type of abstract art is incredibly over rated, it honestly doesn't take much skill or talent to create. Young or old, autistic or neurotypical, most people could successfully produce this type of art even with limited practice.
I had to do abstract art for an assignment and it's a lot harder than just throwing paint. It's about letting some areas dry than layer color... at least for me it was way more technical. Definitely not easy
As a abstract artist,I am quite impressed. He is free with his work and that's what I love because you shouldn't be so rigorous with your flow. I would hang a painting or two in my house. Jackson Pollack 3.0? Gonna bust out my large canvases in honor of his art now.
