Definitely want a battery with good lifespan cause I wouldn't want to stop either. I like how you can expand the height and your right no loud noises. Yea I was wondering how it was on the heavier hedging. I'm glad your happy with it and thanks for the honest review brother 👊💯
Very good review. I am needed something like this, for the new season. I agree that after using it on the different jobs, you will find when to use it or the gas one.
Your pumping out the videos Damien fair play. I'm watching your videos after a packed day of powerwashing. Mad busy at the moment. The fine weather helps. ✊💪 Take care and team up with you next week somewhere.
Paudie I have cards ready for you and also have given your number to a few clients. Weather is fantastic atm so plenty of work to be done. Great to hear you are busy. Have a few videos ready for next week👊
A man has to invest in himself firstly taking care of his health and his mindset secondly he must invest in his craft. Any tool that makes the job easier is a must🙏 God bless you and the twins🙏
Well Damien Thanks for the honest review, borrowed a stihl long reach to finish off that job I Instagramed you with..so Wether to battery or petrol is my next Conundrum...stretching is dicey especially in damp weather 🤕. Keep up the good work 👏
You did a great job on that Laurel hedge looked a tough job hope you got paid right for it 👍 keep investing in tools Roger they will make your life alot easier👌 message me anytime fella keep driving on👊
I bought one about a year ago, that was my very best buy ever. It is worth its money, the blades are cutting better I ever dream of, and can work alot with the smallest battery. I impressed with the power. And I never use in wet conditions because its my dear gear :)
Good video. I bought my HLA 86 five days ago and have used it a couple of times including today. I agree with everything you have said but the angle adjuster pull-down switch on mine seems alright, it doesn't seem flimsy at all although it is awkward to use. However I do agree that it does get mighty heavy especially when fully extended. But for me the best part of your video is how you've highlighted how to use the trigger arrangement. I thought that one slim trigger was useless but you have pointed out its purpose. So thanks for a great video and I am glad you give it an overall seal of approval bar your one gripe about the angle adjuster. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing. I'm Killarney based myself. Was looking at getting the Stihl HL94 petrol long reach trimmer. This battery equivalent is a serious contender going by this video. I'm a fan of Husqvarna so will look at their offering too.
Robby great to hear from you. I worked the Hla 86 for an entire season last year with no issues whatsoever. I found the quick release extension pole very handy on deep hedges and awkward corner hedges. Best of luck with your decision and thank you for the sub✌️
Great honest review brother I’ve been out working this morning Don’t always work Saturdays but needs must But jetwashing is such fun I’m really thinking about investing in a new jetwash and few other tools this year and your sthil electric hedge cutter is on the list along with a chipper and few other bits 💪🏼 Great video I’ll send you clip later brother All under control 💚🌿🌳👍🏼
Damien I think there perfect for light foliage hedging bux privet Castlewellan gold etc I'm gonna buy one myself I've used one before and I was impressed for sure 👌
Jonny you know the score with this machine it suits the lighter nicer hedges not the mad rough and ready lelandi or laurel stuff. The telescopic pole is extremely handy for hard to reach awkward hedges. Hope your power washer is an easy fix. I had many of them through the years they all broke my heart so packed in the powerwashing. I think water and engines do not mix too well😆
@@mr.tidygarden 😀👍 I hope that Stihl will sponsor you in some way!! I’ve now purchased an HLA86 on the strength of your excellent review! I look forward to watching some more of your great videos. Thank you, Cheers, and all the very best.🙏👍
@@mr.tidygarden Ahh, thanks So much!👍 Not had a chance to use it yet, but your videos have inspired me to get out in the garden this weekend.😀 Many thanks again for posting your excellent videos. 👏🤩
Good while it works, but too flimsy, mine's died after 13 months, blade pops out of cam and now just won't run. I will get another as when you need it, it's very handy and saves moving ladders / reaching.
Hi mate what tripod ladder do you use? Thinking of getting the hedge cutter but am worried it wont have enough power, but like you said i like the idea of the extra reach, i hate ladders lol.
Lewis great to hear from you mate cheers for comment and subscription. I use the Hendon 8ft tripod ladder very safe and stirdy. The Hla 86 is a great piece of kit one year later and it is still cutting away. Thanks for watching👌
@mr.tidygarden no problem mate, do you transport on a roof rack or is your van big enough to put it inside? I have a vivaro and believe I could put it inside but not 100% I'd rather not bother with a roof rack as can be too much hassle! Thanks
@@lewisgriffiths694 the front leg is adjustable I drive a renault master fits in perfect mate. I had a merc vito tied the to the roof inside no hassle locking doors. Best of luck mate👊

@@mr.tidygarden Hi Damien Yeah it's always hard to make the jump to something new isn't it, when you're used to one thing after years... but the battery stuff does seem quite good nowadays.
Mates had his 14 months needs new motor control unit. Mine only 4 months till swicth went. Like i said love em but they do have issues sure will be fixed over time. But do have issues
Fully agree the switch went in my machine after a few months but a very efficent tool to have in the van especially for health benefits on the operators limbs and body plus zero smoke inhalation. Thank you for your comment and sub my friend🙏
thanks for your review, as a new zealander under a new self employed gardening business, coming from petrol combisystem, its just too bloody heavy and petrol fumes are awful, makes me sick and wearing a mask sucks quite frankly. I hope this will be enough for me, i do all the types of hedges you mentioned, and some bamboo and acmina, but nothing super intense.
I do not know the exact metric height the machine extends too but I do know it is enough for the domestic work that I do✌️. I highlighted the switch being weak in this video but to be honest 1 year later it has given me no issues. The machine has performed well for me this past twelve months. Thanks for comment and subscription✌️
John I have a short uploaded on my channel of me cutting with the hla86 on a beech hedge. This machine is a great performer on any light hedges only struggles on thick overgrown Cherry Laurel. If you get time search through a few of my videos where I am using it. Also thank you for Sub🙏

Hi bud
I usually use the petrol HL94 one, but I'm considering the HLA86.
Would you go for the electric or petrol? I don't do a lot of hedge cutting.

Nice vid!
Is it powerful enough to trim leylandii?
It struggles with leylandi my friend.

It will suit your business for sure mate👊
Whats the max hedge height it can trim, mine 3.6m ? If the switch is bad then its no good, it is expensive for DIY.

It gets heavy really quick so unless you're trimming the Queen's 10 ft hedges, I would not recommend for household use.
After an hours work it can get heavy alright👊
Would it be good for green beech/hornbeam hedge
