    Dutch of you were to heat your knife it will slice the caps off like a hot knife going through butter. You can buy a knife that is made to heat up for that purpose. When I was much younger that was my job helping my Granddaddy when it was time to harvest honey. He was a full time bee keeper and we would harvest 150 to 200 55gallon drums of honeye every summer. M y Granddaddy only wore short sleeve shirt and long pants and a pith helmet . This was back in the 60's and early 70's. Watching you with your bees brings back a lot of good memories.

    Dutch, I'm sorry but I'm a bit concerned about the handling of your honey. I realize having the girls help is appreciated but here comes the but, they really should be more hygienic if you are selling it or giving it away.
    Licking their fingers and touching the spout or scratching their legs etc...I don't know what to think. If they were sick and transfered it to that spout??
    I hope you have an LLC to protect yourself. You could possibly lose everything over a lawsuit.
    Honey does have certain antibacterial qualities but can be a vector for botulism. It's why babies can't consume it. If your not pasteurizing please be more careful. That saliva can sit on the surface and bloom like a petri dish.
    God bless you and family.

      @@harleyjane3987 I agree to a point with your statement. We used to sell at farmers markets and recently got a contract with a local store for onions since there was huge recall on a national distributor.
      Go to your local farmers market, get to know the sellers. Many are very good and handle their produce with kid gloves.
      We loved it. The best went to customers, the next best went to food pantries and we kept the blemished and bruised for our own preservation.
      I know my comment will be taken as "hate" by Dutch when it's very constructive criticism to help. I notice no hearts unless he's being put on a pedestal. It's okay. I hope he learns.
      I watch him and his family and have seen many mistakes, we all make them. Some are dangerous though and need remedied. Please don't write everyone off because of one person's ignorance. Ignorance is just lack of knowledge. God bless you!

I also was not dishing hate towards Dutch. Watching any RUclips videos does open your eyes to how things are done and it's different for everyone. I was thinking the same thing. They should not be licking their fingers and sticking it in the spout! Especially during covid-. It's just unhealthy and unclean they should have watched their hands at the very beginning also before they start it period not trying to be a downer here just trying to be clean.

    • @UnderTheMillkyWay
      @UnderTheMillkyWay 3 года назад

      I know it sucks but you do know pretty much everything you get from the grocery store let alone fast food has contamination. I hate to be a debbie downer but it's just what it is and have you seen how people in fast food just sneeze all over the food. Drop it and still use it. Been that way for years. I don't eat fast food or pretty much anywhere but my home since I was teenager and worked as a waitress. It was a game changer. Bacteria is everywhere. We also need bacteria to live. It helps with the immune system. Over cleaning your hands is horrible. Just like wearing a mask. It hurts your immune system just like being locked inside. You're not gonna make it out of this world without bacteria. If it bothers you that much it's time for you to grow your own food and even that has been in chicken crap. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @sharischindler9843
      @sharischindler9843 3 года назад +1

      @@UnderTheMillkyWay Everyone should be practicing proper food prep and food safety. It is never too early to start learning the basics and licking your fingers while handling food is just gross! The types of problems you claim occur in the food industry are not as prevalent as you think. A thirty year career in different types of food service settings has shown me that is not the norm. Just because there may be occurrences of in proper food handling before your food reaches your house .it does not mean we toss out all sanitation practices at home. Also because your chicken is covered in crap is the perfect reason you should not be licking your fingers while preparing food. Also why you should be washing your hands and work surfaces frequently and cooking your chicken to the proper temperature before serving.

    Hey Dutch! I've ventured to your family's channel from Daniel and little man Houston at Arms Family Homestead and I tell ya what...both you and Daniel Arms have got to be the best fathers I've ever had the pleasure to watch. It's beyond obvious that your kids are some of the happiest, most well rounded, and well mannered kids around these days. You dont see that often in these days of abundant technology. I just hope one day I am able to have my 6 year old daughter experience half of what your kids have been able to experience. If I am ever able to financially, my number one goal is have a few acres in order to have a bigger garden and a few livestock and attempt a partial farm or homestead. Having a daughter who is non verbal with autism, I feel living the farm or homestead life can teach her more than any teacher in a classroom with 30 other kids could ever teach her about life and supporting yourself. I appreciate everything you share and more than that I appreciate everything you are teaching me! God bless you guys!! Please stay safe in the storms!

I have such fond memories of when my Dad and Grandpa would directly involve us in what they were doing and make them teaching/learning moments!!!
    While filling up the honey from the bucket...use a plate instead of a towel to catch the little spills and then the girls can make a little treat from the tiny bit that does make it to the plate. Honey and saltine crackers is good for something like that, or pretzel sticks!!!!!!

    That little girl licking her finger and then the spout has just contaminated it and the honey they are now putting in jars. Later on the older girl scratches her legs as she pulls up her pant legs and then touches spout to get taste. That is not a good thing when selling to others now during a pandemic or any other time! Sterilization of food products need to be taught to little ones. Surprised you didn't catch that.

    This is not a negative comment, I just would like to have seen all of the girls had a hair covering. Nothing worse then getting honey with a hair in it. I understand you aren't selling it. The girls seemed so caring and anxious to help.

    Each of those tiny cells in a honeycomb, I compare to bee-sized mason-jars - where they fill each tiny jar with collected food and seal a cap on it - to save for later. Then you come and rob them and replace the empty jars so they can refill them again. 😂 The knife and the scraper - you're just taking the caps off of all of their tiny jars. If I wasn't diabetic, I'd be sucking that 2x4! 🤣🤣🤣 And I about to jumped when the centrifuge started dancing like an off-balance washing machine! Get some of those solid 4-in concrete blocks and stack them underneath on that lumber footing it's screwed into - offset the weight of all that glucose it's extracting. Was wondering when the Beast be going to freezer-camp - gettin' close. Laffed at your midnight panic! Most folks wouldn't be able to get back to sleep after all that adrenaline - but you're former military, that's normal... "sleep when ya can".
