- Jake Davis is at the forefront of global cyber security and changing the way we look at hackers. TEDxTeen opening music by Madijuwon.
Jake is Head of Hacking at SPYSCAPE - an edutainment company focused on spying and hacking.
As a teenager, under the online alias "Topiary", Jake was involved in high profile hacking groups Anonymous and LulzSec, which exploited corporations and governmental organisations for political reasons. Targets included the Westboro Baptist Church, The Sun newspaper, and government websites in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe, in support of protesters during the Arab Spring in 2011.
Jake was arrested aged 18, was banned from the Internet for two years, and spent time in a Young Offender's Institute.
He has been featured as a cyber security expert in many news outlets and programmes, including The Guardian, BBC Newsnight, Vice, Wired, Sky News, Esquire Magazine, and Fantastic Man magazine. Jake has also received bug bounties / Hall of Fame credits for disclosing vulnerabilities to Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Google, and many more.
Jake has a keen interest in blending hacking and art, and has worked with various theatre companies and venues, including The Royal Court and The Battersea Arts Centre as well as advising creatively on TV, film and radio.
Jake's biggest passion, and the focus of his work at SPYSCAPE, is bringing the psychologies and nuances behind hacking and the wider internet community to a mainstream audience in a creative, unique way, with a view to raising awareness and knowledge around important cyber issues.

That 'you cannot arrest an idea' tweet still lives with me. Made such an impact on me at the time when I was a teenager. Huge respect and love for you Jake.
chilldude22 Totally agree
I totally agree but Im kinda confused that he is joking about it like it would be nonsense now...
100%
@@ezri3250yeah because he grew up and realized it wasn’t worth it friend. I’ve seen other interviews and stuff with him and yeah he jokes about it but also says over and over it was all a mistake. I think that’s where he’s coming from. Still. Dudes awesome lol
"You can not arrest an idea" truly inspiring and still holds true. Topiary is still in there ;). What a great talk, id love to see more of him in the future.
Great bit of internet history right there. What an interesting young man.
shoutout to those that know the HTP reference and how much that resonates in the hacker community. LongLiveLS
Loved this interview for many reasons
Why is he apologizing for being a freaking hero ?????
He's still alive, that alone tells me he probably either sold out his friends who didn't already snitch to the govt and started working for the govt in return for his life/freedom; or that the govt just decided to let a brilliant hacker who could be of future use to them just leave their custody and go on with his life...... Which one do you think is true?
I have yet to meet or watch a hacker that isn't socially awkward.
but it makes sense doesn't it ? socially awkward people are mostly very intelligent.
society is a collection of the mentally ill
Fun Fact: Jake "Topiary" Davis is a genius with number and maths. His mother bought him a Calculator with which he played with while sitting in a cart while grocery shopping lol
Also , if you want to learn more about Topiary and even some others like Sabu, Kayla, TFlow, William etc then read "We Are Anonymous" by Parmy Olson , great read
Agree! I'm reading it now and that's why I'm here - it's good to put a face to the name. This guy is great.
Shame he’s working for the government now

ask about pwnsauce
Wait could you just hack a flaw into the system and then “find it” and then boom free money🤔
Hack a flaw into the system. Yes, do that....
the 'flaw' is getting into the system in the first place...
Is ddosing the easiest way of shutting down an account or website. If so what are some of the harder ways to shut an account down? because I know anonymous use ddos a lot
DDoSing is like, putting a green light on a signal when there is a traffic jam ahead. This jam though consists of data packets. Usually ddosing involves creating a zombie net, which is a large number of computers hacked by someone. Then, he will send a request to a particular website say CNBC and then suddenly the incoming requests increase and your servers might not respond to user requests anymore and the users will experience a Denial-of-Service by the site. The request packets from the zombie net can also be crafted to suit some specific purposes, eventhough it is mostly experimental.
The Judo Maniac DDOS is fuckin easy I have done it multiple times now it's not hard
TanaMoose AND YOU KNOW yea I gathered as much but I wouldn't say you've done it your self, you never no who's watching. Just keep that to yourself
Just to be clear, DDoSing is NOT hacking. Any skid with an internet could do ot
Great shoez, sxhway jacket. 😻💝💗💗

He’s hot 😍 I wonder if he also likes LOTR?
Sombra liked that
Am I the only one who thought this might be about Overwatch at first?
Erin Blount yes it's sombra
He is a cool guy, I like him - but what does that have to do with THE PLANET?
The planet houses a giant eco-system, thousands of species living together in a (kind of) balance! A miracle, and most likely alone in the universe.
A man fiddling with computers has nothing to do with that greatness beyond human hobbies.
Although I like that he speaks up agains Hatred comments in the web.

17 k views and 15 million subs wow ..😁😁😁
I’m a tide pod bitches
Funny, why " hack " 😂😂 the bank to steal all people's profiles to only sell them on the dark web when ya can just steal the bank 😮😊
It's a shame how smart people turn out once they are facing prison time. Stick to your ideals, cowards.
