A good video thanks for this. But I have to imagine that mouth blowing no matter how hard you try will always introduce moisture. Canned air would be better for hard to remove specs - but a standard rocket blower would be best wouldn't you think?
Great video, thanks for sharing. FYI, the writing inside the lens area vs outside the lens area on Fujinon lenses doesn't have anything to do with coverage or format, its just a change. However a rule of thumb with Fujinon is if it has writing inside as this one, its single coated, if the writing is on the outside of the lens (arround the barrel), especially the rear being the serial number that is a very strong indicator of it being an EBC (multi-coated) lens.
Hi Craig, thanks for the video, it was really helpful. You said you were happy tou didn't have any paint loss. Actually today trying to clean my lens, on the rear element, while I was screwing the retaining ring I accidentaly scratched it a little bit ( I was extremily luckily that it was the retaining ring and not the lens ) so now there's like a small chip on it with a bit of paint loss. Do you think it would affect in the result of the image? Thanks again.
I know this is an older video but I'm trying to figure out why my PC sync port doesn't trigger my flash. The flash works with my flash meter but not connected to my fujinon 150 5.6. I cleaned the outer part of the connector but maybe the inside is dirty and not contacting? Any other problems it might be? Thanks for any help.
+Jim Boice I have only had to clean fungus off of elements twice. Hydrogen peroxide works well for this. You want to take the same care as you normally would to avoid scratching the elements.
When you say "you checked the SS/F=stop" did you just run thru each SS and make sure it operated without issues or do did you actually check the lens for SS/F-stop accuracy?
@@CraigSheaks The standard for camera shutters is that if it is within a half of the shutter speed it is considered good. I've shutters that the timing mechanism was out of wack, usually just cleaning them takes care of the problem (don't take the mechanism, they are hard to get back in) Any competent camera repair service can check the shutter speed. And shutters can easily be replaced.
I took the elements off and placed them on and lens functions fine. However I left fingerprints on an old minolta lens. I need to reopen the lens. Do you ever recommend glass cleaner?
A microfiber cloth should be able to remove finger prints. If you have to use glass cleaner put it on the cloth (don’t spray it directly on the element).
I have the same lens - glad to see how simple it is to clean.

The Kodak spanner wrench is very cool!!!

Just what I was looking for!Have you ever had to clean any fungus off the optics?

I just ran through each shutter speed and made sure it operated properly. I don't have the necessary equipment to verify the speeds for 100% accuracy.

The wrong way of removing the elements.
Criticism without offering a better solution is gratuitous and unhelpful....
