The way you guys get neglected at every labor of love award is beyond me. Thank you for all of your hard work!
It's unfortunately because not a lot of people play NMS, and it's a vote.
I always vote for them!
I'm pretty sure they've won it at least once or twice.
its because the core gameplay loop is still deeply boring and repetitive no matter how much lipstick they try to put on the pig

Ain't no way a game studio like this is so passionate in the work they do and care about their players. You guys are the best!
It's crazy
It's because they released a game that was an unfinished promise.

Fantastic
You glorious bastards. You damn glorious bastards.
The original trailer music still hits after all these years.
"More to come" was NOT mentioned in this trailer. "Our journey continues" sounds like it could be specifically for this update here. They've already done so much for this game, and adding more planetary variety is awesome, especially gas giants. If they end here then they would've created such an epic game by its end. I'm hoping Light No Fire is nearing release soon.
LNF will be a couple years, would be my guess. These features look like they are testing things for LNF
"our journey continues" is the normal end line. This is not the last update.
they say more to follow or our journey continues
our journey continues is pretty normal and doesnt mean anything
I think they'll release more updates. They seem like the kind of studio that would tell us if it was truly the last one. But you're right, if they ended the major updates here that would be perfectly fine. Got 1335 total hours in the game, and it has far surpassed what they initially promised at this point. And all those updates for free, no less. (Even if the first 4 or so updates were mostly to deliver what they initially promised.)
@@Sanquinity Why do they always think that the game will stop being updated? It doesn't make sense to abandon an infinitely large game to add a ton of things.
YES gas giants!! I’ve always wanted these in the game. Thanks HG!

This is just 3D Terraria, there IS NO FINAL UPDATE
No game developer comes even close to Hello Games. This journey has been amazing and I wish we had more of you in the gaming industry.
I'd still give the nod to Larian right now but Hello Games is right up there. Independent studios are simply the best. It's just a damned shame it's so hard for studios to find the kind of success necessary to get off the ground like this.
You really need to broaden your horizons if you think Hello Games is the greatest game developer, man.
@KAJYT6969 How many other studios work on a released game for 9 years delivering 36 FREE major updates?
@@FerozenEntity It's a credit to Hello Games that they work so hard on the game. It being only game in those 9 years however, they'd better be supporting it like this, especially when much of the content in these updates are things that were promised for launch and arguably should have already been in there. With Light No Fire still on the other side of the hill, it benefits the Hello Games to continue to release these small updates in order to remain relevant. I don't say any of this to take away from what they are doing as they are clearly hard working people who love what they do but I do think it's important to avoid putting people (or studios in this case) on a pedestal and keep things in perspective. This is just my perspective and my opinion of course and I can understand/respect that yours may differ.
@@FerozenEntity GGG, DE, FacePunch, Re-Logic, just to name a few. This isn't unheard of, and most of those are free to play, NMS wasn't.

"Our Journey, has ended."
tbh i was prepared for the 16th to be the last update, and that was A WHILE AGO, so everything after that is a bonus for me
i think they've done more than enough for the botched launch a long time ago, but everytime new stuff comes out, the game goes on sale and new players come in, so they make more spare room to develop the new game (and test the tech on this one) which is great
@@bzipoli Honestly! Them using No Mans Sky both as a great first game to show their commitment to the games they release and to test the tech in a public environment is amazing. As a dev myself this team has the most respect from me.
Mind you, they have a whole seperate game that has yet to be released. I doubt NMS or Hello Games' would be forgotten about.

Many games release either in an unfinished state, or with planned DLC that actually finishes the game, it was planned that way, people fall for it, and they make more money from it. Many games make roadmaps and promises during original development that they never quite develop into fruition and then just say welp we couldn't do that sorry. While I understand some things get cut out of games due to budget constraints, time constraints, a feature that creates more bugs than is worth it. Hello games did none of this, they said "i'm sorry, we are going to do everything we can to fulfill our promises!". Boy did Hello Games and Sean Murray really come through on this promise and continue to support this wonderful game. Even going so far as to add in tech and features from their new game Light No Fire. I truly respect Hello Games and Sean Murray for this, as we the gaming community all respect them for this. Hello Games has earned out trust and loyalty! This will pay off for them in the long run as we will all be purchasing Light No Fire, I will be buying it upon launch, sale or no sale. Hello Games deserves it and we know that it will be a great game that is supported for years just like No Man's Sky!
I'm on the other side of this. I was a day one NMS buyer, and I was so disappointed in that product, that I sold it back(this is how long ago it was. :-) ) and never looked back.
While I am VERY grateful that fans of NMS are finally getting the game they wanted, none of the content I've seen from Hello Games addressed MY personal issues. There is no story, no line of progress through a narrative that feels engaging. There IS story, if you're willing to dig and scrape through a very....interesting take on storytelling.
That's my chief concern with Light No Fire. This isn't 2016. While I believe Hello Games has learned many lessons from No Man's Sky, I'm deeply concerned about their ability to tell a story that isn't buried in puzzles and riddles and "work this hard to decipher this text."
@@Khasym Sorry to hear that, I think the story is really what was advertised though, it's barebones storytelling but yea the game i snot about that. Also I do have to say that within one year of release most of the missing features made it into the game
To add to this, Hello Games released NMS with a few dozen missing features because they were broke. They were using personal money to fund the game. I understand don't want to support devs that put out broken games at launch, but this isn't Battlefield, it's not Cyberpunk, or other examples you can list. Hello Games released NMS early out of necessity, NOT greed.
@rockon609 That is something that I can applaud HG for. They didn't take the early sales and run; they stuck it out. And they have clawed their way into a respectable position in the space sim genre.
But we all can see that gaming is undergoing a serious market correction. The days when you can release an unfinished game, require payment upfront, and SURVIVE long enough to fix the problems are pretty much gone. Look at Diablo IIIs reception compared to Diablo IVs. If by now Hello Games hasn't figured out a way to convey story in LNF effectively, I don't see them getting another nine years to fix that
@ well said. I’m not sure what their goals are, but if I were you, i would consider one other thing. Maybe they don’t want to make the story of LNF any more complex than NMS. If it’s in line with their scope they might not think it’s something to fix
i would love some huuuuuge cosmic monsters lurking between planets
Inventory sorting!!! Thanks HG!!!!
You are awesome! Much love ❤

@@danielstokker yeah and that was just a funny story in an old book.

I feel like hello games could write a master class on it. They delivered in a capacity that was the most catastrophic launch in gaming history. We all felt we had been lied to, in a way no one has done so before. And to now to love it like I do?? I forgive their inability to gauge how much time it should have taken. They proved themselves.

I'll never get tires of saying how surreal this come back was. Yall stay delivering non-stop 👏🏻
I don't play NMS (wanted to play with friends, but no one was interested) but I love and watch every new update trailer that's dropped over the years, and I'm so happy for the community who gets to enjoy it.
You really don't need to play with friends to experience this game. It's actually a better experience without, as it started off as only a single player game. The multiplayer elements have gotten better, but it's still superior to journey alone in my opinion. It really gives you the feeling of a massive unexplored universe when stepping foot on a new planet with no one else around. It's gonna be even better with all the new planets they've added
The game has great multiplayer, but it's ultimately a story about being alone in the universe. I've also wanted my friends to play, but to be 100% honest the only things you can do with friends are build a base together and do the multiplayer missions for cosmetics and then just explore, so you wouldn't miss much not playing with friends if that makes it better.
it's quite good solo as well! understandable if you prefer playing with friends in games, though
No worries. I've played solo for 8 years. I'm 45 yo =)
There are other friends to be found at the anomaly!
I'm a harsh critic, and I believe the game really needs work in some areas which are too shallow, like settlements.
With that said, aww yes.
Agreed, definitely some improvements needed in some current systems. Before anyone thinks this is hating, i love this game soooo much. But its good to speak up about possible improvements.
While I agree that settlements is one such system that I love I also think that how HelloGames works on content can be best described as iterative. They like to release a new flavor of system or gameplay, not a crazy amount of depth (Outlaws example too) let people interact with it, build this list of what works what doesn't and then iterate on that system down the line. So with that said I do hope we see the iteration on those systems soon!
Settlements need an upgrade . I'm sorry switch owners but that part of the gamplay need more space , more control on the npcs , more buildings to craft and dare i to dream , the means to create settlements on more places ..
at this point I'm somewhat confident they'll eventually iterate on every feature/system in the game, which I can't even say for my other favorite devs, Digital Extremes
@@vazzmatazz real, because I need a railjack update.
I'm playing since day 1. I always defended the game against all the hate it got. And now I'm looking at it with a big smile :)
Thank you Sean. And thanks to the whole Team at hellogames! You are doing great work.
I'm also thankful for the fact that every update is free for us !
I'm really looking forward to the next updates 😌
I have been playing since day 1 as well and the hate it received was definitely warranted. They blatantly lied about features in the game. For example, when you found your friends and couldn’t see them, “we didn’t think you could find them that quick”. That being said, to quote the famous philosopher Harry Dune from dumb and dumber, they “totally redeemed themselves!” Right now, the game is unplayable on ps5 but they’re already working on a patch for it. But this is an incredible labor love and I’m very proud of the team for sticking with it and producing such amazing content! I love this game.
@@Bazookabunz To be fair to Sean, Sony practically forced him to lie at many points. Not to mention that Sean isn't exactly a public speaker. He's a developer, public speaking is NOT his forte.
@@DakumunDahBatcan’t attest to either of those but with the recent things Sony have done, I don’t doubt it. Regardless, the team has done an unbelievable job at making this game an awesome gem it is currently and I love playing it. They’ve already fixed the issue I mentioned earlier. There’s still lots of bugs to iron out on PS5 side, being unable to summon companions for one, but the team is already on top of it! Couldn’t ask for a better redemption arc!
I always vote for you at "Labor of Love" and I'm always a bit sad when something different wins.
NMS is the prime example of how to handle a failed release and keep supporting the game, making it better and better, instead of dropping it.

"billions of planets appeared in the universe"
Last time I saw this, my lush planet turned into a mud with orange oceans and storms.
Stay tuned, or you've lost your bases 🥺
You should put a Terraforming system or some campaign to retrograde planets that players dedicated, it's sad to rename animals, build bases, ... And simply have all of this played out, updates should encourage old players to play, and not regress their progress, I just hope I don't lose my last planet, or have to live in a freighter 😣
All of the new biomes are introduced in the new Purple Star Systems - meaning all previously planets should be fine.
Water overhauls and Gas Giants are added to ALL existing systems, but majority of the new stuff is in the purple systems
They addressed this in the patch notes. Very first bullet point - new type of star system, purple class, allowing adding a bunch of diversity without regenerating existing planets.
