  • Keeping the washroom in a Panel Van conversion at a sensible size often involves juggling things for space. The typical plastic tip up basins are hardly the top end design that we would like . Yet they are extremely practical and space saving. When you want to have a proper wash in the basin, its right in front of you and a decent size. When you are using the toilet of the shower, its completely ou of the way.
What we have been doing for quite a while is boxing in these basins so that we can hide some of the 'white plastic' and provide some much needed washroom storage for all your toiletries etc.
In this video I share my construction methods and reasons and considerations for doing things a certain way.
I have probably missed out a few bits that I didn't film, and will hopefully get into a routine of filming and editing in a more succinct manner.....but for now you will have to make do with my ramblings and bad editing😉

well done Edward nice video, you need to do a kitchen pod build for a Crafter / TGE that would be a big help

That's my next video. I am going to try to split it down so it's not half hour or more each time. So it's likely to be design and frame, then drawers, and lastly worktop. Hopefully keeps it manageable and more interesting to watch.. plus I don't get fed up editing it😉. I hope to get part 1 out in a few days.

that would be brilliant, I am at the kitchen pod build phase myself in my TGE and need inspiration @@voyageadventurevans

Hi Edd just catching up on your videos which i love to watch. What make of jig have you got for drilling the dowels in place. I was looking at routering a slot to use a biscuit but using a dowel might be a better option.

To be honest, I have moved back to a biscuit joint as it gives you a little more leeway. If you use dowels then they have to be mm perfect, and that isn't always easy 😉

Fantastic attention to detail, just how it should be done. I'm thinking of trying edgebanding, do you mind me asking which type of glue you use? I'm assuming the heat in the van doesn't soften up the glue allowing edges to come off. Do you have any issues using it in a shower room with all the water. Many thanks and keep up the great work :)

You do need a good heat resistant one. If you don't, then sunlight on a dark colour can generate enough heat in the summer to melt it....or certainly soften it. In the shower, we use a curtain around any edgebanded wood whilst in the shower. You don't want to soak it, but splashes are fine.

@@voyageadventurevans Thanks Ed for coming back to me. You don't happen to know if the glue you use is PUR or EVA? What what I've read the PUR type is more heat resistant but also can't be re-melted in the machine and a nightmare to clean. The PUR type is much easier to work with but does have a melting point. Cheers :)

@@northerndan PU Glue would just be non viable on a small scale due to the constant clean up, making small batches so difficult. I have tried a few EVA glues and have settled on Jowatherm 280.30. I get it from Osterman. It has a pretty high melt point and seems to work well with the small portable bander that I use.

@@voyageadventurevans Thanks Ed, that's really helpful, I will look them up. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build series.
