Hi colleague Mat! Good to see you doing well there and sharing the stuff we carry on our outside missions - very similar to what I carry around. Can you show us in a next video what software you use on your laptop and how you consult your codebook on the jobsite? I was looking for some measuring tape, electronic measuring device, wall scanner and Petzl headlights which are here always at hand in my bag or in my car. Or don't you come across those in your line of work?
I don't know why I'm still in a love/hate relationship with structural engineering. I look forward to start working after my coffee in the morning, then when I figured out HOW the work will be finished for the day, I procrastinate knowing I can complete everything needed 30mins before close of business. I then lazily compile calcs and prepare documents for tomorrow after making sure emails are taken care of, for an hour after office because it's relaxing. Then play games afterwards or play with the dog.
Hey mat! I’m a big switch fan and Pokémon fan too! Besides legends arceus, You have to try rollercoaster tycoon for switch. Awesome game for engineer minds and is a blast to play
Ah so youre at DCI! Very cool. Question for you - I don't think DCI offers overtime pay - how does that affect the culture, by everyone assumingly trying to work as little OT as possible?
Hi Mat. I'm currently in my second year in B.s Civil Engineering and I have a question. Is there where or an application you can use to learn abit of what you do as a structural engineer early?
Hi Mat, I really enjoy your videos and the insight you provide. I have a question though. I'm currently doing an internship managing construction (I'm a fourth year civil engineering student). Although I enjoy the project and the team, I'm not designing anything. Do you suggest that new graduates try to get design experience before they get too far from school? I'm torn between doing what I'm doing now once I get out of school or trying to get on with an engineering firm and design.
Try both if you’re really interested in design. Construction internship is awesome. If you end up not liking design, you can always transition to construction. Tougher if you’re in construction for many years and then want to do design.
@@MatPicardal Thanks for the advice! I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I'll go for design experience first. Are you hiring??? lol. Take care man! I love your videos!
I suppose instead of presenting audience what tools are practical and handy, It would be more helpful to grasp the principles of designing and operating civil structures.
What's in your engineering backpack?
Not much...but going to have these in future for sure...InshaAllah
Well notes, laptop , charger, calc.. the usual shenanigans only
Hi mat. can we talk one on one please 🙏
Finally an EDC video in which the guy actually feels like using it every day. It is good to see real engineers showing off a little bit.
