Great to see how different CAD systems do things in their own way. I hope siemens guys are watching you too. Because as you pointed out, NX sew is lacking some options CATIA has.
It is a tool that has been around for decades and updated only once that I know of. NX has come a really long way and a few adjustments is all it takes.
Good example of an area Siemens should look to improve. "Guess what, something here doesn't work" is prevalent throughout NX though. Blends for example; "Blends not created"... ok, it happens, but why did it fail. Show me, so I can correct the failure areas, parameters, or whatever else might be causing it. Ok.. not to go too far off on a G1 here. ;) Catia, definitely the stronger tool in this area, agreed.
I am offering a class at ASE-Institute for really in-depth PC knowledge. I just do basics here. If you are a student they offer student aid. www.ase-institute.com/Design-enroll
Hi Steve! First of all, you are doing an awesome job. Very helpful. I use NX daily and have had quite a bit of luck with using the "Examine Geometry" feature after I have done my sewing. This gives me a good markup where the sew feature was not able to sew the faces. Although it is a separate feature or analysis tool, it is very helpful to resolve sewing issues. maybe they could somehow integrate the examining of the sewn geometry into the sew feature? All the best.
Great comment. The nice thing about V5 is the analysis is done as part of the selection process. It will warn you ahead of time. Examine Geometry is done post application of feature. Actually in Modeling settings you can have the system do some tests as the feature is being applied as well. I agree, if Siemens can work out a way in which the system can perform the check similar to V5 it would make the tool far more robust.
Catia beat NX in such function. More over if you join with holes, you can use boundary curve to see holes. NX can use analysis tool to outline by red highlight open holes
Hi Steve, I'm a fan of your channel.Could you please make video on Surface parametric best industrial approach model involving both wire frame & surfaces has to be matched with parametric approach with the original model, I means to say Surface Remastering if possible also Solid model remastering.
Of course. The issue is all of the surfaces are separate bodies and unless something changed tangent faces of non-connected surfaces can be selected in a chain. Curves can be though.
I work in both systems also, V5 is very strong in surfacing and don't get me wrong NX not weak at surfacing by any means. I like NX better for everything else, just more user friendly. This just my opinion. By the way, you are very knowledgeable in Design, I try to watch every Video and I learn a lot.
Well thank you very much Gregg. The V5 Interface is easier to use. I agree. NX has more tools and to an extent is more powerful but the surfacing interface is a bit confusing. I have been on NX for 20 years and it has really changed a lot for the way better for sure. All the best
How would you approach modeling surfaces from a lines plan for a ship , especially around the bow section, with multiple changes in curvature? www.themodelshipwright.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/victory_gage_plan_lines.gif
I have used Alias over the years and find it OK. It is great at early concept but that is it. Limiting. I can pretty much do anything Alias does in either system and in fact I have greater capability in NX and CATIA. I like the idea of building surfaces to tighter tolerances and than directly using them sans any translations. Plus the parametrics... I have a good friend that is willing to do CAD Wars with me and he teaches Alias. Lets see what happens!

Great video, but I would have created a new surface using through curve mesh tangency.

Please show how to solve the A-surface
Excellent video...sir can you make videos on making powercopies(clip tower, dog house etc,). Guidelines step by step instruction please. Thank you

great , thanks
Great videos. Thanks for doing them.
Thanks Kyle
How does one draw this part in catia or NX? Is it possible to create this surface part by only using Generative Shape design in Catia?
Informative Mate

Hi Simon
I Know how to use Examine geometry command But could you help and tell me how to Check errors of sewn surfaces by this command?

Re-mastering... What CAD system? Each has a different approach depending upon what you are doing.
hi steve
how you rotate the nx part according to the part view, say about it
hii how you rotate the nx part please say
NX quick Pick have u tried it?

I like the nd but my choice is catia,I think catia is most friendly than nx
Like ! More videos like that ! ;)

I will do a video on the approach. I have some family issues to resolve first.
That would be good, hope things go well

I think both these programs suck. Alias is better. NX is good for solids
