Honestly that's not that bad, even Pokémon have names that poorly translate to swears in other languages, bulbasaur wasn't allowed on the GTS for a long time because part of it was a swear in another language, it was totally an unfortunate oversight and people got angry over nothing
They tried to be clever and combine 2 words, violin and cicada and it just happened to be a bad word, not their fault at all
To add onto this, the Spanish word for the colour black is obviously a very bad word but it's not mentioned because obviously it doesn't hold any of those bad connotations when used in that context
Yeah it is what it is. Some people just ignore all context and get mad even though there was obviously no bad intentions. I noticed it as a Mexican and if anything I just thought it was kind of funny that it happened to be the name.
Also, just a little nitpick but I believe the name is meant to be a mix of Viola and Cicada. Viola’s don’t get enough love so no one ever correlates anything with viola such as now. (I was a viola player in orchestra if you couldn’t tell).

It was double whiplash for me, imagine my shock leveling up my bug fella and seeing the evolution share a name with one of my own designs from 3 years ago and having a very similar concept to my design, and then going onto twitter to post about the coincidence and seeing that the name in the first place meant THAT.

the fact they created a creature named something as bad as r**e or not have any people who’d like check beforehand before releasing it worldwide on a game targeted towards CHILDREN is a major mistake. They definitely deserve at least some criticism for this

And that is why when using google translate to use Greek words for the etymology of Pokemon for a fan game I check other languages just in case. And as a result I found out that apparently Grian means sun
there are 5,000 to 7,000 languages so it makes sense why the devs are not going to just check if the name does not mean bad in every language 😂

An ACTUAL fix would've been to add a Y before the D, so that people who tend to NOT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF WORDPLAY know that it's pronounced like CICADA
As a Mexican here also, it took me a while to notice the name and when I found out its name I started laughing like crazy and I ended up loving the thing, And I know what it mean i just to funny how they added that to the game also they should fix the tennis minni game to many bugs and for moblie player its to hard to hit the ball!!! But I love this update to funny!
I heard people also was a little disappointed about how they could of have a Sheninja Loomian evolution situation, sort ironic of how that Loomian first name was raped.

As a spanish person I found it very funny when I learnt this loomian's original name. It's just a coincidence that those 2 words came together and created that, and if there's noone in the dev team that speaks spanish, then it's obvious they wouldn't know about what it meant. I don't see why people where so mad about it, it's just a silly mistake about a name even if it came out like that imo
