    Great overview here. New BA subscriber, this was pretty much spot on with where the organization is at. Time to turn things around with Bloom

    The Cardinals do things their way, and I love that, they are not trying to outbid this organization and that organization, the way they do things you will have some down times as you rebuild the right way, and they will get back to glory and they will have Cardinals for life, and community heroes for life. Go cards!

    I’m excited for baseball season but as a Cardinal fan I’m a little worried about how the season is going to play out. I will stand by the team and let’s hope the younger players can develop by getting playing time go Cardinals.

      He just has to work on getting the walk rate down

    Cardinals fan here: They haven’t been aggressive enough with prime age players. Every player they’ve spent on has been over age 30. Dewitt will not take on the required long term contract to get a prime age player. The strategy of pairing young, underpaid players with over age 30 veterans stopped working when PEDs were removed from the sport.
    Lack of player development at the MLB level directly correlates with Jose Oquendo retiring from being a coach on the MLB team.

      Agreed on the Jose Oquendo effect on the major league development side. He continued to be the "secret weapon" just in a development role.

    I agree with nearly everything you said. The Cardinals aren't bad at developing players. They're gotten bad at developing hitters. Its a problem because the hitting and defense are two-fold. They haven't had a great hitting coach in a while and its one of those staff positions they will just turn over super fast if they don't get immediate results or don't want to hear fans whine anymore. Its tough to keep guys comfortable and learning if you're changing the staff every two seasons or sending them down right away. Let guys play and learn.

    Can you guys do a Rays farm system deep dive sometime soon?

    Once Shildt and Oquendo left the big league team the development at the major league level went way down.

    Lost me at “Arozarena would’ve been the teams best hitter in 2024.” 😅

    • @baseballamerica
      @baseballamerica  5 дней назад

      It's a debate, but he would have been in that range. By Fangraphs Offense runs above average, Brendan Donovan led the Cardinals at 9.7, Arozarena was right behind him at 9.3, ahead of any other Cardinals player.

      @ so he wouldn’t have been the best? And that’s not the only stat in baseball lol. What about average? What OPS? What about slug?

    They have 1 losing season since 2007, when Mozeliak took over.

      All true. The Cardinals have been one of the powers of baseball in the 21st century, as we noted on the show. But right now is probably the low point of the 21st century because of how successful they have been since 2001.

      @ 2 championships since 2001, could’ve been 3.
      Outside of the bubble year, how many championships do the Dodgers have since 1988? Lmao!
      Idk where you two are from, but you clearly don’t know anything about the cardinals.

    Trading O'Neill for Robertson/Santos was terrible. They should have traded Goldschmidt instead when he had a year left. O'Neill was playing for a new contract, and I said for Chris Sale or no deal. You saw what happened with both players. Alcantara and Gallen for Ozuna was a bust. We got Montgomery for Bader, then let him leave. This was not the Cardinal-Kissell way, it's been the Mozaliak Way. Mike Schildt was a disciple of Kissell and was suddenly fired. Without something to get excited about attendance is going to crash. Then DeWitt can blame a lack of support. I've been a fan since 1967 and this off season effort has been unacceptable. We know we aren't getting the players that LA or NY get, but even one needed player because you can't get what you want for Arenado? DeWitt is beginning to remind me of Kroenke, let's hope for a different ending.

    Is 78 wins an improvement? What? They won 83 games last year, not 38.

    Definitely won’t be subscribing to this channel. Can’t even make it through a 1/3 of the video before realizing you two didn’t do your homework.
    Why didn’t you talk about all of the new additions they’ve made in coaching and player development??

    • @baseballamerica
      @baseballamerica  5 дней назад

      Because we were doing a 40 minute show covering a multitude of topics. All of that fits under "what will Chaim Bloom be charged with doing." We wanted to a good bit of time talking about Wetherholt and Mathews and other prospects.

  • @sonnymarsh2260
    @sonnymarsh2260 12 дней назад

    If Masyn Winn is the Cardinals shortstop of the future, then what is Wetherholt? Just another high draft pick that they’ll change the position of right away. Doesn’t seem like St. Louis knows how to draft well. Always missing on the good pitchers and can’t even develop.

      Covered in the video. We spend a good bit of time on that. And shortstops moving positions is as old as baseball.
