Funny how last year (2023), when we as fanbase expect them to have a press conference
after the horrible losing season... they are a "no-show" and tell us to basically get lost...
Now, when we "don't" want to hear what they have to say. Just fire everyone...
they schedule an immediate press conference...
to tell us exactly what we "don't" want to hear.... that they are bringing Oli and Mo back...
this organization is bass ackwards, and arrogant about it...

Anybody who thought Mo would step down was just deluding themselves. He really should, but I never truly believed he would.
I've been a vocal critic of Marmol, but I also am not surprised to hear he'll be sticking around. It's tough to see him still managing, but he was given two very dysfunctional teams these last few seasons. I will agree that this was not his fault. How he managed them was.
Goldschmidt not returning hurts from a sentimental standpoint, but it is the right decision if the goal is long-term success, once again. He's been a great player for years, and I wish him nothing but the best, as he likely finishes his career with Arizona.
As for Gray... This doesn't surprise me to hear. What does is how quickly these rumors have started. Provided we get some genuinely talented looking prospects for him, and maybe one that is near MLB ready? Then I'll be okay with it. He's been what i expected him to be, and needed more support. He's been good; I'm still happy he's (for the moment) our guy. If he goes for the right place, I will also be more than okay with this.
Here's to 2025. For better or worse.

I'm 66, been a Cardinal fan since I was 5 and I hope they can get the minor league back to one of the best in the league, I believe that is a prime reason for success. Then they can go out and fill in with top free agents. We can get back to what we were and if that entails a couple of rough years then it would be worth it. Not totally disagreeing here, but, Bloom is going to have a daunting task to restructure both the farm system and the big club including adding a boat load of coaching staff. I'm still a Shildt man and have been fuming his dismissal when he had the club operating to the Cardinal standards. MO should have been gone a longtime ago with his stale idea and mismanagement of money on inferior talent. The only reason to keep MO at this juncture is to give time for Bloom to grab this mess and shake some sense into it. I don't like it but there it is. The only thing I can hope for is that the important decisions behind the scenes will have been stripped from MO.

If we want to be more than a 500, middle of the pack team, then I think it's gonna take a whole rebuild. But I agree with you that it seems crazy to do that with all the same people in charge that got us into this in the first place.

MONEY, is why MO and Oli will still be here next year. If they fire those two would they be owed the salary?? Can the GM not good enough to make a deal?? Dewitt just wants a yes man. If they do add to player development, add instructors and resources it has to be paid for. So there will be a salary dump at the big league level. The overall salary will be down because Dewitt is cheap but wants fans in the stands with a ok team.

I'll be very surprised if they do the total tear down. I get trading Heisley, great closer but he's in a contract year. Goldy moving on is a no brainer. Not picking up options on Lynn and Gibson is easy. Wilson the only one that makes sense if they move a big contract. I like him a lot be we have two cost controlled young catchers that played plenty this season. I think we can cut $30-40 million from the payroll with out gutting the team. Just by doing the above moves that much is saved. That's not counting trying to move Matz and Miles and eating whatever is needed in salary.

I'm on board with that. The organization really needed to review his player development as they have either fail to produce player or couldn't get them to the level they were supposed to. So invest in player development overviewed by Bloom who did that with Rays and Red Sox.
This way the team doesn't need to patch holes with barely over replacement level and pay for it (Lynn, Gibson, Matz,...) instead of getting time for our prized prospects. You have then more payroll to get superstar to complement those good foundation and go for it.

Only thing I regret is that they use this investment process to justify cutting payroll at the MLB level.
IMO since 2011, the team has been downhill and trying to maintain a process that wasn't working. Even players we expected to carry the team failed to meet expectations (tsunami, wong,...) WE had some success story liké Carpenter being a late round who panes out. I find Mo did a good job by trying to maintain this process the best he could liké getting Arenado, Goldschmidt,... But the rest of the league has catch up on us and you see more error in trades, free agency,...

Let Mo take the fan backlash from those moves. Give Bloom a shit-shield so that he doesn't get the same backlash that he did in Boston so that he can take over clean in '26.
Now, the one problem I DO see for next year, if they move on from all those stars, is How do you sell tickets? They need that revenue, even if they do massively slash payroll. If there's nobody the fans want to watch playing, how do you put butts in the seats? 2025 is looking to be a very lean year, from where I'm sitting.

Especially moving on from Helsley, Contreras, and Arenado! I understand trading Helsley yes, but how do you replace him down the road? Contreras was one of our best hitters, and catchers stat wise this season.
Arenado's power numbers were down yes, but he still had above average offense in most other categories for an MLB 3B. Plus Arenado's defense was ranked 3rd best defensive in the MLB with only Ramirez and Machado ahead of him defensively! Also, Arenado's salary is going to incrementally decrease the next 3 seasons to $21 million in 2025, $16 million in 2026, and $15 million in 2027. He's a hard guy to replace man!
Gray's contract is going way up, so I understand wanting to trade him in a rebuild season. I'm actually ok from a partial rebuild, just not full fledged. I would love to move on from Mikolas and Matz, wanted that for last season lol!

At least we know they are terrible and have no way to go but up - and I can watch them on TV. The brass at StL has decided to "blow up" the team and start over. The Cardinals have been one of the top teams in attendance for as long as anyone can remember will now look like the Marlins or Rays when attendance is announced. I know one family that has centered many, many short vacations around the Cardinals home schedule that will be spending our entertainment dollars elsewhere. It takes 2 1/2 hours to drive from my house to Busch. It takes 2 hours 1 minute to get to Guaranteed Rate Field. Cheaper tickets, better seats, easier drive, and a team that actually values its fans.

Staying in StL under Mo/Bloom and this front-office's dysfunction will only devalue him in the future. He should leave immediately for a better situation. Goldy could wind up in Milwaukee next year, and Gray in Cincinnati --- and both with added incentive every time they play the Cardinals. StL's fire sale this off-season will put the team below everybody else in the Division next year. Fans will stay away from the ball park even more than in 2024, and attendance won't be bolstered by so many corporate season ticket buyers. Great job, DeWitt.

Attendance is down? Take a look at the ballpark. It’s loud. The only time they don’t play loud rap music is when the batter is getting a pitch. Guests can’t talk, you can’t relax or chat with your kids. People leave after six innings because they can’t endure it any more.

    The Cardinals got complacent.
The Reds talk about being a small market and usually end up below .500.
The Pirates usually end up in 5th place and do not spend money on free agents.
The Cubs are financially well off but they are the lovable losers.
Milwaukee is a small market but they find ways to have good seasons.
Cardinals now care about just getting into the playoffs as a wild card and hope for the best.
The next POBO will have the chance to hire a new manager.

The point is, that competing simply to make the Wildcard is not good enough. The goal is to win a World Series. That means first of all winning the Division, and then going on to win the WS. Playing 500 ball with the hopes of the planets aligning in favour of a wildcard is not what Cardinal Fans want. Anything short of a World Series victory represents failure!

Getting rid of Paul Goldschmidt is just one of many problems that is currently there. The signings they have made last year during the off season and at the mid trade deadline were not great. All hitters from the Cardinals for the most part look lost at the plate swinging at pitches in the dirt, trying to hit the ball out the stratosphere. The fielding errors have not been great for the Cardinals this season as well. Also the pitching. Always behind in counts, throwing balls down the middle, can’t get quality starts. This organization entirely is a mess. There should be no reason the Cardinals are not competing for the wild card with the amount of potential talent they have on that roster.

Too bad the Cardinals can not do both …. rebuild the farm system AND Stay competitive. Obviously an ownership decision. Likely not the only owners to do this. Will this be ok with fans ??? If lower attendance means the team can do less, will they eventually have to sell ?? Sell now while they are ahead ?? Guessing they hope young guys will win more games than people expect and fans will show up.

I have never seen a team do with this team is doing disrespected its fans not willing to put money into the team and I am old-school. I don’t like spending $300 million on a player who is not worth 300 million but not willing to give normal price for a player. We’re not willing to make this team work. We’re not willing to build this team. I’m very upset. I am very angryphilosophy they’re talking about. There’s no need to change the philosophy. Cardinals adjusted payroll was at $175 million this past year. In what way was this penny pinching???
I get being upset about how the season ended…..but this wasn’t an issue with Bill DeWitt not spending money….Cards had the pieces to be a playoff caliber club. Shit simply did not pan out.
If Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt were performing 20% better this year they they wound up, this team is at 90 wins and are likely in the playoffs. This boils down to inconsistency with the young kids and a huge drop off of the studs.

Attendance drop...... Sure, a lot of it has to do with team performance, but this was still a winning team. I think too many fans, reporters, writers, bloggers, etc..... completely ignore the overall state of the economy and people have less money for recreational activities. Even if someone already has the tickets, it can still be expensive to attend the game.

If you're going to GUT the team, he knows who might want different players, he might be better to make the trades with the goal of getting the Cardinals down to about 50 million in payroll. Get ready and start not using the TERM BEST FANS IN BASEBALL... the Cardinal fans will prove St Louis are NOT the best baseball fans. They support WINNERS like most other cities... PERIOD! Additionally we're NOT a baseball town St Louis is a FOOTBALL town like every other city. Sucks baseball is our #1 sport because now St Louis won' t be a sports destination. I also feel bad for all those business around the stadium that depend on people coming downtown... that isn't going to happen now. Look for multiple business to CLOSE over the next few years. Skip was available. Why didn’t we get him? He’s cardinals royalty and way better than oli. The only reasons olis first season was decent was because Skip was his bench coach. How do people not see this. And we wouldn’t need a rebuild completely if Oli and John were gone. Or smart. Trading Edman for Pham and fedde was dumb. Keeping Mikolas would be dump. Getting rid of Sonny or Arenado would be really dumb. Quit hiring old players for a reunion tour or a last ride season. I can see one that doesn’t play much and doesn’t earn much but they piled the old guys on this year. I can’t believe we’re even at this point. This is the first year in I don’t know how long that I didn’t go to a single home game. Usually I make sure to go for opening and/or closing day and a time or 2 in between but they made me not want to spend my money this year.

I'm done. Fuck this franchise. They're doing what should've been done literally 8 years ago, now with the same two problems in dewitt and moron running the show.
Maybe it's not fair bc I've been a cowboys, cardinals and bulls fan my entire life and the other two have given me 30 years of bullshit that I got no more rope to give with this franchise. Probably because unlike the other two I've been going to cardinals games so there's a physical connection unlike with the other two.
The only prospect of rumored teams interested in Gray or speculative teams, is the c/1b prospect in Baltimore who's 20 in AAA with a 60 hit and power tool grade. Baltimore might be willing to part with him given their young nucleus and position to win now for Gray or Gray plus Helsley. All the other prospects feom speculative teams don't turn me on at all especially given their farm systems blow, or prospects are there years away and of course Gray isn't ohtani so they won't let go of their top guys.
I'm fine moving helsley. You took him to arbitration for a million dollars. As little as that sounds history states players rarely if ever stay long-term with a team that fights them in arbitration.
I'm fine with Nado being moved and eating money
I'm not fine with Gray being moved bc shocked your one move that was going for it, didn't carry your team to 95 wins.
Burnes with a big bat trade and coaching overhaul has you back to 95 wins with the kids playing. But no we're the dollar store of baseball now
