    John, another great video, and an interesting diversion in doing the Scalescenes kit. I spent most of yesterday 'pottering around' doing bits'n'bobs on the layout and spending a disproportionate amount of time cursing at just how fiddly doing this in N-gauge is, but the end result is very much worth it.

      Hi, oh yes it’s so fiddly and you’re right very worth while in the end but sadly it causes much swearing, off camera!🤬🤣
      I hope you enjoy the fishing boat build, thanks for watching and commenting, it’s much appreciated, cheers, John

    Hi John - I wondered when you would get round to building a boat again, especially as it is a Scalescenes one.
    Uncomfortable watching as you stuck down the base of the hold, I held my breath all the time, but you did it in the end which is the main thing.
    Like you say not enough on here showing the building of Scalescenes. It was great watching you John as it makes me feel more comfortable when I am building mine.
    Nice to see the baseboards coming along.

      Hi Chris, lol! There is a bit of play with the sticky labels and of course if you make a real cod’s of it you can re-print it and do it again!
      I do really like the Scalescenes kits as they are so detailed and now with the laser cut parts you can buy separately from ChrisinDen it makes it a fair bit easier in our scale of N Gauge.
      Things have slowed down in the cabin as I’ve got a couple of projects in the garden that need doing. I am hoping though to get a couple of days in there over the next week or so.
      I shall release the next part sometime this week once I’ve edited the video’s I’ve got. It’ll likely run to 3 parts, I hope you enjoy the rest, it’s coming on quite nicely.
      Cheers Chris, John

      HI Jeremy, thanks, it’s progressing really well, very fiddly in N Gauge but it has turned out ok. There’s another episode of tomorrow and there will be a last one on the following Friday with a layout update.
      Cheers for now, John

      Hi Chris, yes the fishing boat is really coming together and starting to really look the part. Just spent another couple of enjoyable hours make some of the small details. Giving my eyes a break now!
      Doing a few things in the garden this week as the gardening season is upon us here as you know but I’m hoping to get a few hours in the cabin.
      Cheers Chris, John

    Hi John, enjoyed the video and so pleased for Mrs Exehaven that the name is staying 😉🤣, I am glad i helped in a funny sort of way with my comment to have the name remain 😂😮. It was interesting to see the part 1 building of the scalescenes fishing boat as it is not something that I would take on myself that’s for sure, I admire your patience putting it together! It is good to have side projects as a distraction especially when you have had such a major job on the layout and ripped it all out! Looking forward to seeing the finished boat ⛵️to one day seeing it in Exehaven harbour⚓️🛟 Cheers Gary

      Hi Gary, she did laugh when I told her your comment! So it’s down to you the name is staying mate!
      The Scalescenes kits are tricky but the more you do the better you get, it’s worth downloading the free kits to have a go. I just think they are really detailed, much more than the Metcalfe kits. They both have their attributes as the Metcalfe are easier to put together. I always have something on the go as side project really as I don’t really go in the cabin in the evening and like to be with Mrs Exehaven even if she is watching rubbish on the the telly, hence the side project 😁
      I’ll hopefully have the next episode out shortly and the last episode out with my next update in a week or so.
      Cheers for now mate, John

    Hi John, those laser cut parts are very nice! 👍👍Always enjoy a video if it's a Scalescenes build, look forward to the next part(s). All the best. John

      Hi John, the laser cut parts are a big help for the scale we model in. It’s key to make sure when you’re cutting out in N Gauge that the cutting is very precise as even being a millimetre out can cause the the thing you’re building to not fit right!
      Probably another 2 parts to come, cheers for now John, John

    Great timing for me John. Your patience is admirable. I had just downloaded this boat from Scale scenes. Regrettably we don’t have laser cut kits available here in SA. So the traditional card method for me. I reckon if you can plan in one or even two storage yard into your track plan would be good visually and provide some interesting train running too. Admittedly I understand a big yard may not totally fit into your theme? Cheers.

      Hi David, good luck with the fishing boat it’s a lovely kit, I hope the video is of some help and shame about the laser cut parts as they have been a great time saver.
      As for the storage that’s a good idea, I’m hoping to create some storage on the layout as you suggest, I think until I get some track laid I’ll wait and see what room I have.
      Cheers for now mate, let me know how you get on with the fishing boat, John

    Greetings Essex and hello John 👋 Those lazer cut pieces certainly seem to add an extra dimension to the Scalescenes offering 🤩 really looking forward to seeing the finished result 👍 I hope playing a round with Deni 💃⛳️ hasn't tired you too much for hoovering duties 🤞 Very best wishes from the other Wickford ☘️

      Hi Paul, lol! Yes Deni is a very tiring girl!!!! Hoovering scheduled for tomorrow all though it’s my best friend’s 60th tonight 🍻🥂🥳🤪 so we’ll see how that goes!
      The laser cut parts for Scalescenes certainly helps, N Gauge as you know is so small and fiddly and cutting accurately is key with Scalescenes!
      Cheers for now mate, John

    Hi John - The laser cut parts do seem to make the build easier as the Scalescenes kits look a little tricky especially in N gauge .But is has the makings of a very nice fishing boat. Looking forward to the next instalment.
    Cheers Kev

    • @exehavenharbour
      @exehavenharbour  Год назад

      Hi Kev, yes it is easier mate, it’s ideal for N Gauge as they are very fiddly kits to build and cut out! I’m sure it’s helpful in 00 gauge too but honestly some of the parts are so small in N Gauge you can barely hold them!
      Thanks for watching mate, I shall be catching up with your latest very soon after an afternoon nap, we were out last night and a bit jaded! Cheers Kev, John

    Hi John! I've looked at those Scalescenes kits and always thought that they looked way too tricky for me! However, speaking as a complete novice at kit building, I really enjoyed your hints and tips and would love to see more, as I suspect us N gauge modellers face a few different challenges to larger scale builders! Looking forward to the next update in whatever form it comes! All the best, Ian.

    • @exehavenharbour
      @exehavenharbour  Год назад +1

      Hi Ian, you’re right, N Gauge Scalescenes kits have to be cut so precisely that even a little bit out causes problems , probably more so than 00 gauge. So, the laser cut parts make a big difference and save time too. One of the good things is that once you’ve bought the kit you can print it over and over again. So if you make a mistake you can print the sheet you need again or the whole thing!
      What I really like about Scalescenes kits though is they look so good and very realistic.
      Metcalfe kits are good too especially from a building point of view but can lack the realism that I like.
      Probably another 2 episodes to come, I hope you enjoy them, cheers for now, John

    Hi John. Great video on building a Scalescenes kit. Their kits are good but the instructions can sometimes be a little bit unclear. That said the end result when the kit is built is usually of something that really looks the part. The trawler certainly looks the part even at this stage of the build. See your still toying with the helix 😅 idea. As they'd say in Father Ted - go on go on go on 😅 I'm sure a man of your caliber could design the track plan to accommodate one. See you enjoyed Mr Sheedy's " golf video" 😅😅 cheers Euan

    • @exehavenharbour
      @exehavenharbour  Год назад

      Lol Euan!, yes I have to read the instructions a few times and if I’m not sure i read the next set of instructions then make a decision on how to go ahead!
      It’s a nice kit and coming together nicely especially using the laser cut parts.
      Yes, the conundrum of having a helix or not, I know it makes complete sense to have a storage area but at the moment I can’t quite make the decision on where the entrance to the helix should be. I haven’t ruled it out completely and I’m sure I’ll come up with a solution in the next few weeks. I need to get some track down so I can see what will work.
      Yes the golf video was really funny, it certainly appeals to my school boy sense of humour 🤣🤣🤣
      Cheers for now Euan, John

    John I have always been put off the Christensen kits due to the cost which ends up being similar to ready made. However probably worth it for the boat in this case given those bulkheads!
    Re the helix, what about using cassettes instead?

    • @exehavenharbour
      @exehavenharbour  Год назад

      Hi Stephen, yes you’re right the cost of the laser cut parts does make it a bit more expensive but not excessive and it really does help to get the kit right in N Gauge just because of the size of everything and being a millimetre out can really make the build tricky! But for the boat cutting out those bulkheads would’ve taken ages!
      Actually I’ve been thinking about cassettes, and again wondering quite how I would do it as with the helix. It’s going to help when I get some track down so that i can see what’s what.
      Cheers for now Stephen, John
