The #1 rule I learned on my course in studio etiquette at SAE was literally, “Shut the f*ck up when you’re new in a studio session. Nobody knows you or cares.” I still live by that rule every time I work with other artists. Lol.

Some things i've learned when being in sessions:
-Be prepared with beats or ideas
-Don’t be afraid to try out different ideas and sounds
-listen and try to find and ride the wave of the artist
-don’t take it personal if ”the room” don't go with your ideas. It just means that they are looking for another vibe/sound.
-leave the business (contracts/percentages) outside of the creative space that you are in.
-leave you ego and all that shit outside.

For me I have leave to emotionally detach even if something big seems to be happening or happens. I only give me self a short time to be excited about the work. Other than that treat it like I'm still a cashier at Wal mart. It's just a job

"The world does somethin' very interestin', in that, when you're detached from the things that you're obsessed over; you're detached from the things that you're like, *I need this to come, I need this to happen..* they have a weird way of actually happenin' when you put your focus elsewhere."
This one of my favorites right here. On some DJ sh!t, I see the power of detachment as that which happens when you flip The Law of Attraction with a #Backspin.

Yo lol when I got my first placement with a major artist, I was lucky enough to be in the session. I was told it was ok fro me to take pictures, get on IG, etc. I did no such thing because of the horror stories I heard about talking to much. I git the placement but I wouldn't tell the internet until it dropped. I think keeping quiet is just best. The song is No Man Falls on Drillmatic by The Game.

8:49 what's the fine line between coming off like you are eager, patient, yet ready to work vs being "to thirsty"? What's the best way for new beatmakers and producers to approach artists, or if invited to work with an artist, to avoid being starved and be seen more like you are dedicated to your craft, in it to work, and to create mutually beneficial relationships at that time and in the future?

I've had the honor of getting placements with some legendary artists in the past (Styles P, Sheek Louch, M.O.P. more) and was even mentioned in The Source once but I can't seem to get a grip on this online beat selling game. Been on Beatstars since October and have only made 5 sales so far. Trying my best to go outside of my BoomBap comfort zone and mess with Trap and Drill.. even started playing the keys and stopped sampling. I want to find some dope upcoming artists and build a sound with them. Been doing this too long (20+ years) and getting discouraged.

i got to the point where i just stopped trying to get on the beat selling bandwangon. what happened to all the beats you DIDNT sell? they are probably just on your drive not doing anything right? PUT THOSE SHITS OUT!!! i shifted from a beat selling producer to a "instrumental artist" i took those beats i didnt sell, compiled them into singles and eps and put them out. i always leave the option open for people who want to buy them, but for the most part those beats are now a part of my catalog. and the good thing is I GET ALL THE MONEY FOR THEM!!! i dont have to split royalties. i get ALL the sync, performance, and mechanicals. everything comes out on MY label, and through MY publishing company.
@iamexel i say all that to say this. DONT BE DISCOURAGED make that shift if you have to. i STILL get to do the boom bap that i love and NOT HAVE TO venture into something else. 4 of my beats charted on itunes, and one of my beat eps was submitted for Grammy consideration. YOU CAN MAKE THE SAME SHIT HAPPEN!! if you need any help, holla at me.

@@exelbeats ima keep it a buck, if youre looking to make a ton of money, its not gonna happen unless you get a TON of streams, and ALL your business is on point. but its better to have those beats earning SOMETHING than just being on your drive earning NOTHING. plus the more beats you have out, the bigger your catalog will be. and a lot of times this will open you up to more opportunities. when people ask" what have you done" and you point them to a large catalog, they will know that youre serious. i have over 600 beats (and counting) out on all the platforms. they are ALL earning a lil change.
people told me that "i wouldnt do numbers with just boom bap beat tapes" on streamin platforms, but here i am 4 million streams later. i got to score a movie, and i have a few tv placements all from what i put out as an artist...
