Rev. Dennis Kamakahi wrote such beautiful traditional Hawaiian songs that still brings so much beauty through the language and melodies that stick in your brain. This song came out before I was born, but remained a classic growing up, and I still remember loving it as a keiki. Kaua'i is such a beautiful island - visiting my cousins was such a treat when I was young. I couldn't resist doing a song in ʻŌlelo - long ago Hawaiian used to be my first language, and as I get older, I crave that connection that only language can bring.
A HUGE mahalo to Kumu Kawika (Halau Makana O Hula) and Katalina for lending me their beautiful mea hula for me to add to this video! It was such a treat to dance again with hula implements after such a long time!

Mahalo nui loa. I used to be in a legit local hula troop on Maui (I was never that good). When you sing in Hawaiin, I am back there smelling the Plumeria , climbing Iao to blow the Conch shell and eating Lau Lau !! =D

I am far from an expert on Hawaiian culture, but from where I sit in some random corner of the internet, I'm not sure there is anyone alive doing more to preserve and promote Hawaiian culture to the popular masses than you. I think you should be recognized and honored for that, cause it's a beautiful thing.

I don’t pretend to know Hawaiian language, I just love you. And many claims are legitimate. Being thugs and outright hating people that don’t know didn’t help. It’s hard enough to be in a battlefield, let alone repeatedly, so please be careful when it’s time for me to go.
