Some notes: (on stuff missing in the video) SPOILER ALERT: For getting at the fan and heatpipe, you don't need to touch a SINGLE screw ! 1. Remove the battery (you should know how to) - otherwise see 0:20 (the screwing thing is a fake) 2 .skip to 2:45 - forget all the screw Voodoo in between 3 slide the battery-lockers to the "open" ("red") position 4 Slide the back-cover to the front of the laptop 5 Voila - < 1 Minute ! (I laughed out loud, when I finally realized that !) But see my notes below before proceeding for safety pre-cautions (for the laptop, not for you) - You need a T8 TORX (no you don't - at least for getting at the fan and heatpipe) - You should take ESD (elctro-static discharge) precautions - can't see them in the video. At least ground yourself shortly, before touching inside - IF you take off the heat-sink - as shown - buy thermally conductive paste before you start. Then you need to remove the old paste and apply a SMALL amount of new one. (the paste always conducts worse than metal, but you need it to fill the small gaps.) Because the paste ages, I can well imagine, that this is the bottleneck to silence your G640 again. I hadn't thought about that, before seeing the video, so probably the most critical thing I couldn't do. - If you clean the fan, only do so when electrical disconnected - otherwise it works as generator and might blew the board. Also don't use a direct hit with pressurized air - high speed might damage the bearings. - Ahh ... and get the dust out of the fan opening through the casing and remove dust inside the casing - otherwise you have the next "layer" in real soon. Also clean the heatsink on top of the theatpipe. Ok, this one was as good as clean in my case. - The disassembling goes much farther, than needed for the cleaning, - Is it telling, that reassembling is NOT shown ?
the music was torture... silence would have been better or just the sound of you working if you do not want to speak - i had to mute after aboyt 2 minutes ! other than that minor issue THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting in the time and effort to make this video it was really useful and helped me resolve an issue with myHP probook 640 g1
Thanks man! I just got this lap top from my office, after couple of years they sell company lap tops really cheap, is suppose to be old model but seems to me a great deal, I will open it and clean it, thanks!!!!!
Such a pleasant song that is playing while you break down the computer. Mind sharing the name of the song or artist? I tried SoundHound but it just couldn't pick up a match. Thanks!
