  • Hi, everyone! In this video we will be talking about Canterbury Leather-bound Classics. Do you like this book collection of classics? I must confess that this collection grew on me.
I’m gravitating more towards bind-ups lately. That’s because of the lack of shelf space and due to the fact that I have been trying really hard to acquire only titles that I do not have yet.

Gilded pages are actually practical. They create a smooth surface that dust has trouble adhering to so it's easier to wipe off without harming the text block.

I own a copy of the Classic Works from Women Writers -- it's such a great collection! Like you, I'm trying my best to focus on getting some of the less well-known titles that I don't already have several editions of. But there are a lot of nice editions available for certain classics, and they can be hard to resist sometimes. Your channel showcases many of them!

I feel your pain when you talk of the difficulties in importing books to Brazil. Taxes can be abusive and you may get your books stuck in customs for months. As to Canterbury classics, they look beautiful. I'm a Stevenson fan and I was struck by the gorgeous colour image of this edition.

I needed precisely this at the moment. I could find no other edition of Bulfinch’s trio of volumes in stock with distributors in my country, and so had to place an order for the Canterbury Classics leather bound edition that was, quite fortunately, in stock. I was hoping for a detailed viewpoint on these editions while my copy is still in the mail, when you uploaded this. Thank you!

Great video, I recently purchased my 3rd omnibus from this collection. The price is what originally enticed me, I got my first CC book new on Amazon for under $12! I agree the covers are a little busy for my preference, but the books are solid, and the price is unbeatable!

I have a Canterbury Classics edition of Les Miserables. Very well made book! I'm considering buying the H.G.Wells collected edition, I haven't found anything comparable for the price (especially in reais).

Really enjoyed your tour of these books and I have to say you have a delightful style of narration, very easy to listen to. I have many Easton Press editions, Barnes and Noble and a few Folio books of classics and other great works. I only have 2 Canterbury bind-ups, "Classic Tales of Science Fiction" and the HG Wells Collection that you feature here. They are beautifully done and I see of course what you mean about the matching spines forming a more uniform "library collection" look on your shelves. Very tempted to seek out the King Arthur and Women Writers editions, after your guide here. Thanks for the tour!

Hi, you can take off the barcode. With my copies I had no problems, they came out easily and left no sticky residues, also they did not peeled any of the cover color. The only one that seemed to be damaged was my version of Jane Austen, but I guess it was because it had been there a lot of time, because it the old version the one with only 3 novels, in that case the leather wrinkled, but still the color was left untouched.

I have few of these editions. I think they are the best value for money out there. I have a few Barnes Nobles books and I think they are slightly better but on average 10 to 15 dollars more.

I find these editions, like the Barnes and Noble leather bound classics, are a great quality for the price. I prefer the B&N cover designs, but that is simply an opinion. I am pleased to have several of these books on my shelves. An excellent, descriptive video. Thank You.

    • @BookCravings
      @BookCravings  3 года назад +2

B&N has better covers, I agree. But at the same time Canterbury editions look alike, more like a collection, same size and style, while B&N has a variety of sizes and styles, paper, etc.

@@BookCravings Yes, the Canterbury are a more uniform collection. I love it when you show us a focus of your many collections. It helps me decide which books I truly want to invest in, so that I may pass them on to the next generation.

Do you find these books are durable? I've seen some reviews online that mention covers separating from spines, cover paint bleeding, etc. I read my books (not just for shelf decoration) and I want to pass them down to my kids so I'm looking for books that will last. Wondering your opinion, thank you!!

Yeah I was worried about the same thing also considering Amazon has these books at a lower retail price than the actual canturbury collection website. Not sure if ordering them off Amazon is gonna get me a cheap emulation of the official collection.

I was really confused about your accent, I was trying to figure out where you're from, sometimes sounds like you're from Britain, and sometimes like you're from India, and then, I was surprised, you live in Brazil! I'm Brazilian, are you? If not, where you're from (I'm just curious hahaha).
Oh, and by the way, excellent video, I watched it and gathered strength enough to buy three of this collection, 'cause there's a promotion on Amazon. Thank you very much! And last but not least, I LOVED you accent!

There isn't really a better material than leather for a book cover. The "busy covers" on some of them are a bit annoying for sure. I.e. I agree with your distaste for a super-modern look on leather. Even Folio Society books do this now. Annoying and unappealing. Anyway. I have Wait Whitman's Leaves of Grass arriving tomorrow. Canterbury gave that title an elegant cover.

I wish they used real leather. I'd gladly pay 10 euro more for real leather. Or even some sort of really realistic and durable faux leather. Bonded leather seems to be very very fragile and needs to be treated with the utmost care.
That said I honestly think Canterbury spines are the absolute best. They look so neat. Their fake spine ribs or whatever they called seem to be perfect and fitting. Barnes and nobles classic leather bounds often over do the spine

Huckleberry Finn ... Easily one of the greatest novels ever.
Connecticut Yankee though ... Ugh. I really dislike that novel.
