    It's interesting how Lucas seems to understand the ... "spectacle" of pulp adventure better - with his ideas about the Holy Grail and haunted castles and such - while Spielberg seems to understand character arcs better, and together they are able to tie one to the other, making the Grail search analogous to reconnecting with his father in the same story.

      @@TheImapotatofunnily he did. Lucas tried to get Spielberg on to direct Episode 1 but Steven said no because he felt this was George’s movie and that the only person who can do this is Lucas. Lucas tried to get a couple other directors to direct the movie but the all turned it down for the same reason.

    This is still my favourite movie in the Indiana Jones franchise and I love these old school extras from the original DVDS.

      @@DouglasSpende-xm5kf I hate it when people callously refer to movie "franchises". It may pertain to the PC garbage being pumped out now, but in the 80's we did NOT refer to the movie series' which we loved and were so inspired by as being "franchises".

      @@porsche911sbsTotally Though he didn’t have a ton of screen time, Julian made General Veers appear to be one of the few capable Imperial Officers in Empire who steered clear of Vader’s wrath due to his competence versus the incompetence of Admiral Ozzle & luck of Admiral Piett. To me his most memorable roles throughout his long career are General Veers in Empire Strikes Back & Grand Maester Pycelle in Game of Thrones even though he has acted in other huge franchises like Indiana Jones & James Bond. What a career: he’s acted in Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Indian jones & a James Bond film. Not many actors can claim to be a part of four of the biggest franchises in cinematic history, let alone one. He’s a supremely talented actor there had to be some luck in there to be a part of that many major movie franchises.😮😆👍

      A great actor. I remember him most for his role as Aris Kristatos in the Bond film For Your Eyes Only.

    If I didn’t know better, I’d believe Sean Connery was Harrison Ford’s actual real life father. That’s how perfect they were together. Their chemistry was all-time great.

      @@mrsimian2010 Harrison retained his youthful appearance until he didn't and that seemed to happen in a period of 5 years or so. One minute he looked like young Harrison Ford and the next an aging Harrison Ford. Its very weird how he seemed to not age and then seemed to hyper-age.

    blows my mind that Lucas came up with the idea of opening the film with that flash back sequence. it was a great idea on his part, and Spielberg took it and ran with it. that transition from young indy to older indy was and is the coolest shit

      And they pulled it again with the new one, and it worked just as well. Because now, 35 years later, we are used to OT Indy as the 'default' Indy.

      I'd say, the opening sequence with River Phoenix as young Indy is better than the whole of Dial of Destiny. Last Crusade is absolutely brilliant.

    I showed this movie to my nephew last week. His 9 years old & can never stop looking at his IPad all the time. But when I put this movie on. He was stuck to the TV the whole movie without blinking. He really loved it & it made me very happy. Cause I remembered the excitement of being a kid watching one of the greatest adventure movie series of all time.

      When I was 12 and watched it I thought the same, it was the first Indy movie I saw, I saw the trilogy in reverse, just the same as Star Wars, as I was too young to go and see the others. This was the first movie I watched three times at the cinema

      You really need to see Jaws. Jaws is by far the best movie ever made. Even Harrison Ford admitted it. He was asked what the best movie ever made is and he said 'Jaws'.

    They got everything right with this movie, perfectly paced story that gives you just enough time to relax before the next big set piece action segment hits you again. A master class in casting, script writing and direction.

      All film making now is chaos. Lucas's pacing comes from his appreciation of Classical music which is a Bible in how to keeping pacing to a rhythmic medium.

    I love this older extras from DVDs, you can see the work in progress of ideas, Lucas and Spielberg discussing the movie, trying to understand what it works and what not, on what things they disagree... in the new movies' bonus features there are usually people complimenting each other.

    Raiders and Last Crusade are both my favorite Indy movies (and movies in general) for different reasons. Just an absolute blast to get lost in those worlds.

    How blessed has Harrison Ford been in his career. Harrison said that River Phoenix looked like him when he was young. You can not get a better hand of cards in life than what Harrison has had.

Can you imagine if in some dark, alternative reality they kept making Indy films after this? Why, the other day, I had this bizarre nightmare the venerable Harrison Ford was still playing Indiana Jones in his 80's! Bizarre.

      @@Wicked_Sushi There was a rumour about an Indy-movie in the 90's, with Kevin Costner as Indy's brother.
      That might have turned out great, since Costner can carry a hat very well.
      Ford mentions a fourth movie in one of his 90's interviews, if I remember correctly.
      Sadly it was never made. Maybe Star Wars took over Lucas focus at the time.

    Steven Spielberg made going to movies an awesome time. Personally, I think he made some of the best movies.

    Probably my favorite Indy movie, I love to hear the interviews with Spielberg, Lucas and the cast, R.I. P. Sean Connery, River Phoenix and Denholm Elliot, also River got right the traits of Harrison Ford, I wish he would have lived a bit longer to see the development of his career. Also, Indiana Jones in a hounted castle sounds more like a horror movie/game, but I would like to see that.

      @@Tester-sh1mn Tbh I wouldn’t say any of the classic trilogy are even in the same league as CS, certainly not the last crusade. That said my partner is Indian and she finds TOD quite offensive; when she explained some of the twists Lucas has put on religion and gods etc I have to agree, it was at the least, badly researched. The guy who plays Mola Ram was apparently very popular in India and she now thinks he sold out 😂

    Very cool how they specifically wanted the original James Bond to be his dad, since I think the idea for Indiana Jones started as an idea for a James Bond style character.

    Like they said; its the most fun. Thats what makes Crusade the best one (apart from Connery of course). Had no idea til now that Donovan was played by a Brit. Man can they pull off American accents brilliantly.

    5:46 Man I can't understand how Temple of Doom is seen by Spielberg himself as a "not funny" movie. It's a freekin literal rollercoaster and funny as It gets in the saga. I love it.

    Spielberg made the experience of going to a theater…having popcorn a coke and enjoying the anticipation of what the movie will bring, like being on an amusement park ride.

    Spotted Julian Glover on a train heading out from London Waterloo mid-2000s. Late at night, I was drunk as a skunk, but he was more than generous conversing about Empire Strikes Back and Last Crusade before I had to stagger off at Putney. Top bloke.

    Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Temple Of Doom, and The Last Crusade ARE my favorites. When The Last Crusade was released in 1989, that would be it for me without realizing it. The other 2 do not exist nor will they be part of the collection.

    This was the best and only conclusion to the best TRILOGY ever. I never heard of anything after this thank goodness too bc I feared they just wouldn’t be that good or down right terrible.

    I love when Indy bluffs about Brody's abilities, his knowledge of languages, the "He'll blend!" etc. And the next scene is Marcus lost and forlorn in the marketplace begging for help. LOL
    Denholm Elliott is missed.

    Every conversation between George Lucas and Steven Spielberg retold by either of them essentially is about Steven begrudgingly agreeing to do one of George's ideas even though he doesn't like it.

    River Phoenix played a young Indy better than anyone could have. His mannerisms were so close, looked like him, absolutely brilliant actor. Gone way too young.
