I can see why Ford likes this more than Star wars he seems like he's actually having fun
Objectively, it IS much better than SW.
@@dacsus true
@@dacsus kids say "objectively" when their ego is so high they somehow think their opinion has any more merit. It doesn't, so stop believing it.
If you really think it's "objectively" better, than prove it. Except you can't, because entertainment is too subjective to definitively say whether one thing is better than another (to an extent).
The word "objectively" is the new "literally". It doesn't give your opinion any more weight, sorry.
@@dacsus also it's completely irrelevant to the conversation. Whether it's "objectively better" or not has no relevance to whether Harrison Ford had more fun filming or not lol. Dunce.
@@TheJayson8899 By objectivity I meant the obvious elements - such as the camera, the lighting and complexity of the scenes, the actors' performances, the consistency of the story, the dialogues, and the world itself, the quality of the script, the wittiness, the quality of the costumes, and so on and so forth.
Any adult will notice this, a child might miss the differences, and the childishness of the SW story (and everything that contrasts with the Raiders) is absolutely fine with him.
It's really weird seeing Harrison Ford genuinely happy. But he still sounds like his body doesn't know how to laugh.
what do you mean?
@@nathaniliescutotherescue6047 I'm convinced that some celebrities like Ford, DeNiro, and Tommy Lee Jones, are so chronically depressed from some kind of serious foundational trauma that they don't have a genuine connection to joy and require suspended mental states to experience it. Carrie Fisher said that Ford got fun after getting drunk, Jones has said that he has no sense of humor, and DeNiro has always been cagey and defensive. If you look at how each and every one of these people laugh, either in an outtake or in a film, you can almost see the effort they make in making it happen because it doesn't seem to come naturally to them.
It's really that Ford doesn't like Han Solo, which was his main career. He LOVES Indiana Jones and has said he wants to do those movies forever until Spielberg got busy with other movies
Such horse shit.
@@Sp3ctreNova but Hanso Solo and Indiana are similar characters.
I remember my mom taking me to see this in 1981, I was 15 and I wasn't really all that enthused about going to see it, as I hadn't heard about it and didn't know what it was about. But, boy after about the first 10 minutes I was hooked! It's still one of my favorites! My mom knew me pretty good. I miss her dearly.
Great memory! I also remember not being too excited as I walked in the theater that day in '81. Like you, I didn't know much about what we were soon to see and I just couldn't get past the fact that we were going to see a movie with 'Han Solo' in it that wasn't a Star Wars flick. I remember sitting down, actually wishing they would somehow mess up and just show Empire Strikes Back again instead. Once it got started though, I don't think it took even 10 minutes for me to figure out that this would be one of my favorite films of all time!
Years later I got to realize a bit of a dream as I was lucky enough to be an extra in the last-shot scene of the most famous fan-film ever made: 'Raiders The Adaptation'. I was one of the German soldiers in the back of the truck that Marion shot from the gun-turret of the rotating airplane as well as a background soldier in a few other shots. You can see it here on YT by searching 'Raiders vs Adaptation'. It was surreal living out a childhood fantasy in real-life!
This was supposed to be the first video I ever rented (After I'd seen it at my Aunt's house and wanted to see it again), but as we had a Betamax VCR, the choice at our newly opened local video store was very limited. So we rented Flash Gordon instead.
You saw this movie in theaters?? Dang, nigga, you old AF.
@37silverstreak1 so you’re 57 now 🤔
@@fastkarr8256 Yep! although some days, I feel a lot older!!!!
What a fabulous, unrepeatable timeless classic.
I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. But mark my words in less than 20 years they will try to remake it. Putting a woman in the lead
I don't know. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes pretty close.
@@TheMasterOfNotAlot lol
@@thebutcher5032 It may not take 20 years if the rumors about Indy 5 are true.
@@thebutcher5032 imo, in few years, that woke sht will be gone.
I remember, already being a massive Harrison Ford fan as a kid, when my stepmom, who was a reporter, managed to get me advanced press release photos months before the film’s release. Which later I managed to get autographed. Of course it was lost over the years. Still, that first film was so iconic.
I remember watching Raiders in the theatre. The kids around me were so excited they could barely stay in their seats. It was such a fun popcorn movie reminiscent of the old B movie actioners of the 1930s and 40s.
To see 2 icons like Ford and Spielberg joking around is just as magic as the movie itself!
The best line in that bedroom scene with Marcus is when Indy says "Besides you know what a cautious guy I am" and he tosses his pistol into the suitcase.
"Cautious fellow"
Great film. Harrison Ford has a leading man star quality that is really lacking in modern day actors
But the character of Indie is ab solutely useless for the whole story. With or wo him the end would be the same.😉😉😉
@Iceman 23 well he doesn’t save the girl, actually managers to get caught himself along side her and didn’t stop the Nazis from getting the arc.
Because today's leading character's require super powers that aren't real - in the past it was real super powers possible by a human being.
@@steffenrosmus9177 that's a popular misconception by people who cant think for themselves. Because of Indy the ark ended up in possession of the American government. Without Indy the Ark would have remained with the germans who eventually would have worked out how to weaponise it and win the war. Because of Indy the Ark winds up being locked away safely. Try thinking for yourself for a change instead of just repeating what you've read elsewhere.
Namely being manly
Spielberg has created quite a few masterpieces but for me, this movie will be his best. It has all the right ingredients for me.
For me, his two best are Raiders Of The Lost Ark and E.T. and he made them back-to-back, what a legend
Raiders is my favourite, ET a close second. Such a brilliant film maker.
Goonies got me as a kid, Indiana Jones got me as an adult
@@thebutcher5032 I loved goonies, still do
@@thebutcher5032 That was directed by Richard Donner.
Finally, an explanation of why that dude is randomly laying against the wall when Indy and Marion escape the Well of the Souls.
Seen the movie a billion times. Never even noticed that guy there.
I’d never seen him there. Need to check that.
Was just thinking the same thing!
@@namco003 he's in the wide shot, at the end of the scene. Because the scene is filmed in reverse shot.
I thought he was just a worker taking a break or being lazy
The guy who is surprised to see Indy crawl out of the crypt when the rock is pulled out is the same guy that's surprised as he falls on the truck and stares open-mouthed at Indy in the chase scene. Would've made a nice touch to this movie... he keeps being surprised and staring blankly at Indy.
Is it really the same guy? lol
You're right. A huge missed opportunity. But, they probably would have had to pull this running gag at least one more time before it becoming REALLY funny.
True. That WOULD have been funny. Maybe when they're escaping from the flying wing plane, Indy bumps into him, growls, "You again!" and shoves him out of the way. Then the plane explodes and he's right next to it and goes out with a loud Penfield scream. The guy just can't win.
man did you see how strong Harrison Ford was? Alfred Molina's not a small man, but Harrison lifted him out of that hole with one arm like he was a mannequin
That man was the ultimate man - be still my heart ❤❤❤
The scene with Belloq preparing was pretty cool, and the gag with the butcher shop is cute
Alfred Molina was just starting his career when he played Satipo in Raiders. He did a great job, for the small role he had. As then went on to become a fantastic actor.
Saw this in '81 when it came out. Can't believe it's been 40 years.
its weird to think the timespan between now and this being made, is the same timespan between this being made and pearl harbour.
@@nathaniliescutotherescue6047 pretty soon the release of this movie will be closer to 1936 than it is to the present day
Loved seeing Spielberg wearing a Star Wars cap during one of those scenes.
My late ex-husband dragged me to this movie.. I had absolutely no interest in it... but he'd heard it was fun so I said okay [I thought it was about Noah's Ark 😜]... boy was I beyond pleasantly surprised when we started watching it and I was hooked!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!😍 I loved how that entire whip scene with the Cairo swordsman got changed to Indy just shooting him [because Ford had dysentery on the day of filming and wasn't up to the whole whip vs sword fight scene] 😂😂🤣🤣
I know right!!! We got to see here what was intended.. I love the mistake better! My late Father did also.. Laughed his ass off back then and said That is how you do when you have a gun! LMAO
Karen Allen would have made a really good princess Leia if Carrie Fisher didn't accept the role. Karen auditioned for it as well.
Carrie Fisher gets a lot of love as Leia, for good reason, but Karen Allen would have done an amazing job as well.
Very much underrated actress and an absolute babe to boot.
There is a reason why I adore these films
I’ve been watching these movies for more than twenty five years yet this is the first time I’ve watched these bloopers and outtakes.
Can't believe this was 40 years ago.
It's not the years, it's the....actually yeah it's the years
Oh now why did you have to go and say that?
I was successfully in denial about the passage of time as I thought back to when I first saw this in the theater.
I was 15 years old, a teen-ager, now I am a 55 old man. 😩
Classic as always. Only one person can be Indiana Jones and that is Harrison Ford! Let's hope that the 5th movie will be good
I hope but if they have their way I’m not sure it will be lol.
it won't lol
It won't
I think South Park is gonna make another raping episode
Not with Pheobe Waller Bridge involved
The famous "Indy's Pistol vs the Big Sword" final chosen scene was Harrison Ford's idea. He didn't feel good and wanted to cut it short. Great choice!
The Indy lashed to the periscope scene explained how he was able to stow away on the Nazi U-Boat.
Cause he had the shits
Montezuma revenge & 103 temperature.
did U-boats have the periscope up all the time??? What would have happened if they retreated the periscope??
@@swifty1969 At the island...
German#1: "What is this?"
German#2: "It is a drowned American stowaway. Judging by the whip, I'd say he was a lion tamer."
German#1: "Cool hat though."
@@swifty1969 The larger problem is that U-Boats of the era could only operate submerged for a few hours at a time, and traveled slowly while doing so. They weren't at war in 1936, so they probably would have traveled on the surface, except maybe for their approach to the base, assuming it was secret and they didn't want to let the Greeks or British know what they were doing.
In an alternate universe they are watching the version where the sword fight actually occurs and I feel so sorry for them.
Thank goodness Spielberg has never become squeamish over the scene where Indy shoots the swordsman.
Lucas would have CGI'ed in some sort of excuse by now.
"Harrison Ford revealed that the scene was meant to be the ultimate duel between sword and whip but he was suffering from dysentery and found it really difficult to be out of his trailer for more than ten minutes at a time. Ford and Spielberg realized that the complex fight scene would take days to shoot, a timeframe that the ailing star was not feeling up to. Therefore, Ford suggested that his character should simply shoot his enemy, and director Steven Spielberg readily agreed to the idea. "
It would of never made any sense. How can a whip be used against a sword. One strike and the whip is fully extended and the guy with the sword could of just rushed him and stabbed him. Dumb idea. It's actually lucky they all got diahrrea and Ford couldn't do it rather than bad luck which is normally what diahrrea is lol.
Wow. Never saw bloopers and outtakes of my favorite movie. Super cool.
Ford = Legend. Indy = Icon.
Seeing the actor who plays "Satipo" smile made realize, "Holy shit, is that same the guy who played Doc Oc in Spiderman 2!?", and it was! (Alfred Molina)
True story, my uncle was on this set as a still photographer… This will always be my favorite in the series ! Love this movie …
Sometimes I forget Doc Ock was in Raiders
Wow this is fantastic! These deleted scenes and outtakes and bloopers, and this was what 1980? I love finding videos like this on RUclips. And raiders is one of my favorite movies.
The most handsome actor in the history of movies.
The only movie I ever saw where I was literally on the edge of my seat.
Background music is too loud
I'm glad Steven got his first choice for Indy which was Ford. George didn't want Ford because he had already been in 3 of his films. He didn't want him to become his 'Bobby Deniro".
Incredibly hard work making such a film! Spielberg and great actors make it seem easy!
Raiders 'Map leads to hidden entrance'
Last Crusade 'Map leads to tourist attraction'
Karen Allen was and still is a stunning woman.
she's a rare beauty.
Back when movies were still made on location. Now, everything is green screened, and computerized. It's just not the same.
To all y’all interested (and too young to simply know this) the film is called Raiders of the Lost Ark.
It was only on DVD rereleases (subsequent to the two sequels) that they added the “Indiana Jones and the…” part, as that was the titling format for those two films.
But at the time of the release of the original, nobody would have heard of the character, and it wouldn’t have made any sense.
And for some reason it bugs me when I see “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Just bugs me.
Get a life. And it won’t bug you anymore 😃
Dude, everyone here know the name of the movie. Plus, it's in the title of this video. (also in the movie)
"But at the time of the release of the original, nobody would have heard of the character, and it wouldn’t have made any sense." - this is an absolutely logical thing, which does not need to be explained to anyone (who has common sense).
Needless comment
@@DrJones20 indeed
@dacsus
Some people still think it has Indiana Jones in the title. It's annoying because they properly think I'm lying. Like why would I even?
I'm reading the novelization of this and I recognize some of the outtakes/deleted scenes that happen in the book!🤣👌
I was in 8th grade and got to see a screening in San Francisco, and I distinctly recall the deleted periscope scene, although I think scenes of him clinging and suffering through a storm. My favorite movie!
Haven't seen this movie in a long time. I'd forgotten how many amazing English actors there are.
L'absence du merveilleux duo Marion/Indie, dans les épisodes suivants, a beaucoup nuit à la qualité de cette série de films.😮
I saw this the first night in was in the theatres. It was a helluva lot of fun for the audience, especially being the first to see it. What a blast!
8:05 which is exactly why Sean Connery was cast as his father in Last Crusade in spite of the 12 year difference between him and Harrison Ford, because Lucas felt who better to play Indy's father than the original James Bond.
Ford seems so happy in these. Like he was actually having fun while making movies. I know he never really wanted to be an actor to begin with, but it's like Hollywood pressured him into so many roles over the years that he lost any joy for filmmaking.
He never cared too much for his Han Solo character (even though WE loved him) but he did and does love Indy. Here's hoping that number 5 will be as good as the first 3 and lightyears better than number 4...
I think what he didn't like was the whole celebrity thing and how big SW got
He became really jaded when his ex an ET screenwriter took half his billion dollar fortune in the divorce. Then he turned into a guy who didn't want to be there.

I like the scene where he shoots the swordsman. He's telling the viewer “you want action? Yeah look elsewhere”
The bromance between Ford and Spielberg is genuinely beautiful
I met the actress who plays Marion. Lovely person.
I've met her, too. See my pic. :-)
Sure would have been nice to hear what was going on in half these scenes, without the overpowering music that added nothing.
Added nothing, and even detracted from a couple scenes.
Such an amazing classic Harrison is a legend
Simply the best Indiana jones movie
AHA!! So THAT'S how Indy survived the submarine trip to the island!! I KNEW IT!!! Why wasn't that in the movie????
Great vid, but I wish there was a button to switch off this background music...
The added music almost makes this unwatchable for me
Oh my..Harrison Ford..member of stallone the Expendables and the Greatest Indiana Jones ever! Legendary Action Hero with charisma👍.
Ford was the perfect choice for the fm but it was a happy accident as Tom Selleck would have been Indy if it wasn't for the Magnum P. I pilot being unexpectedly picked up by a network and him being contractually obliged to do it.
Incidentally I believe there's an outtake where John Rhy Davies has an upset stomach (as did much of the cast and crew) when filming in North Africa and he inadvertently had a trouser accident when filming a scene in wihe has to bend over. I. Also surprised to see the whip v swordsman fight here as I was always led to believe it wasn't filmed due to Ford being unwell on the day of filming, although on this evidence it looks like maybe they only filmed part of it before Ford felt unwell.
In an alternate universe Tom Selleck is Indiana Jones
True classic, hard to beat 80’s Spielberg productions. Today Hollywood has to recycle old movie or make poop.
Amazing! Thank you very much!
**insert "Ford was sick the sword-fight day, proposed the gun shot instead" fact that everyone knows**
Always love these bloopers and outtakes for this Seminal classic film. Harrison Ford will the definitive Indiana Jones much the same way Sean Connery was with James Bond. It's no surprise that they cast Connery as Indy's dad as who else but James Bond could have birthed him. The deleted scene where Indy and Marion escape the cave and there is Tunisian lying by the cave makes sense now.
Very true! It's fitting that Connery played Indy's father given the franchise adopted the Bond formula - if I recall correctly, Spielberg wanted to direct a Bond film when Lucas pitched him the idea for Raiders.
Birthed?
Didn’t recognize Alfred Molina as Indiana’s porter. The future Doc Ock.
I was ten when Raiders came out. I was living in a tiny town in Oklahoma with one twin cinema. My mom drops me off(they could do that back then) and speeds away. Two movies both starting around 1pm that bright sunny afternoon. One was Raiders to which I had seen no commercials or trailers for and did not recognize “Han Solo” on the poster. The other was Dragonslayer. The poster was a painted idea of the film, but I had seen several commercials for it.
I chose poorly.
Lol, yep…I chose Dragonslayer. While a great film in its own right…I got to school that Monday and all the kids were talking about Raiders. I felt so left out, but finally got to see it the following weekend. And two more weekends after that for good measure. Even my mom got in on the action as Ford become her new crush.
My best friend and I were bored and saw an article in the newspaper about a movie opening for a one day screening called Raider's of the Lost Ark. We thought it was a documentary about finding the Ark of the Covenant. Boy, were we wrong.
Loved this film.
Incredible movie.
All the other films pale in comparison.
Interestingly I like parts of the other Indiana Jones movies but I don’t really like them as films. But Raiders of the Lost Ark is a piece of art. A great movie
I’m hopeful for the upcoming movie. Indy 5
Gonna be honest, if you didn’t like the last crusade as a movie, then there’s not much hope of you liking the fifth one.
I understand the dislike for the 4th one but Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade are amazing.
Wished they released the deleted scenes and bloopers for the 4K set
Nice to see those scenes. The loud background music is quite annoying though.
The STAR WARS cap on Spielberg is brilliant!
Harrison Ford was made for Indiana Jones,I know Tom Selleck was in line for the part and auditioned for it as well the rest is now legendary as both made iconic roles that even after 40 plus ears are they're characters still bring us fond memories of the 80's
Back in a time when Harrison was young and hip and could have fun with the scene. Now he just growls "Get off my lawn."
younger, young is a stretch. nearing forty in raiders. eighty now - yeek
Nice footage, but could have done without the intrusive music throughout.
Love this movie, thanks! It would have been so much better without the loud background music though.
Shooting raiders and wearing a Star Wars hat I love my childhood when the actually made great movies.
I remember seeing this in the theater with my Dad when it came out and as a 6 year old I was both terrified and awestruck when all the Nazi's faces melted off!!
Esta película fue hace 40 años increíble.
As mentioned below also wondered about the mystery sleeping guy next to where they come out of the tomb - 6:47 on the beach appears to be “Spielberg Associate” Kathleen Kennedy.
I hope that Disney and Lucasfilm strike a deal with Paramount, to Re-Release the Indy films in theatres, in order to drum up hype for the Fifth film! And then release them and the young Indy chronicles on Disney+!
1:22 - hold on, so Indiana had an "inappropriate relationship" with Marion (she says I was just a child, it was wrong), and now we see this scene. I didn't pick up on it before, even with the "I Love You" painted on the eyelids gag. Indy was supposed to be a perv.
informative on a classic.
2:58 "Where's Abner?" He got lost in all this smoke.....
The Indiana Jones character almost went to Tom Selleck and there’s some other famous actors that were scouted but ultimately it went to Harrison Ford and he was perfect as the lead.
Huh, never realized there was footage of the original version of the sword fighter scene.
The REAL Indiana Jones. I can see this for ever!...
Como olvidar el día que el Dr octopus se fue de Sabana con Indiana Jones 😎
What's with the background soundtrack drowning out the dialogue?
Yikes. Harrison Ford became THE action hero with this. But so good to see him having fun.
It's not so much what you believe, but how hard you believe it.
The era of Spielberg's dumbass hats. Good times.
Is there a version without the music???
I was 11 when this came out. And I fell MADLY in love with Harrison Ford. Still am.
Karen Allen.....hoo boy!
gawd,, I wish they'd kept that scene with Sallah
Glad they cut the scene at 01:36 makes Indy seem like a pervy professor
I am just here for Karen Allen
Damn! Spielberg is a real practical joker!
Holy shit is that Alfred Molina in the beginning with Ford?? I have watched this movie a gazillion times and now it dawns on me!
Yup. Doc Ock’s first movie IIRC.
I had thought Harrison Ford was a really good leading man. Then I saw this movie! I had finally found a movie star who could flick his whip at me anytime. I still feel that way. Are you listening, Indy?
I think deleting the ark intro scene to the ceremony was a mistake. This movie was all about the ark, so making a grandiose entrance to the opening ceremony would enhance the mystery & importance of this relic. The other deleted scenes made sense.
1:22 beautiful Pola Churchill
A brilliant movie!
