      I also use field blur for this. A bit slower but you don't need to rasterize the text. You can do this on smart layers. Which means you can come back to this and make changes later on.

      I think you lose a lot of the hands-on aspect using Field Blur, which is why the smudge tool is a more attractive option IMO.

    I've been smudge-blurring since version 6, way back in the 90's. The blur tool has never been capable of the levels of blur which it should have been able to. This is a good way to get around how wimpy the blur tool is.

    You can also use alt + right click to adjust your brush size. You usually have your left hand around the ctrl/alt area anyway. Works well with alt + scrolling and (shift +) scrolling, which is zooming and moving around the canvas. Which happens often when using any sort of brush-like tool.

    You could also play around a bit with the scatter option on a brush. Instead of the useless blur-tool I'm mostly using smudge with a scatter, because it immediately blurs what's underneath the stroke instead of just blur-dragging the pixels along the stroke

    Great effect. I love the textures! I'd recommend Field Blur non-destructively on a Smart Object. :) As far as I know, you can't do the lighten and darken with just Field Blur but you could use multiple layers and Blend If. Edit: Just tried to reproduce this in Field Blur with good effect. I was glad because I went back in and adjusted the blur points to make improvements after I moved things around. Definitely recommend non-destructive techniques when possible. 👍 Thanks for the inspiration!! :-D

    • @Texturelabs
      @Texturelabs  3 года назад +6

      Cheers thanks for the comment! Absolutely, field blur has the non-destructive thing going for it; should have included that in the vid instead of lens blur... so, +1, worth exploring for anyone who's into this kind of treatment

    Hey I have an idea for an effect you might want to cover, and how I would approach it. An LCD or digital screen look! To do this, I'd mosaic or upscale with nearest, and use three patterns of subpixels to filter out the RGB into the subpixels. Then use perspective and scale down to make it look photographed. For CRT I don't have as much of an idea but can imagine a blur then halftone.

    • @Texturelabs
      @Texturelabs  3 года назад +5

      Actually had client feedback not more than 2 hours ago that was "how about more CRT effect" so I'm gonna try this tomorrow... and it better work, ha!
