    My mind is not as sharp as those that can "complete blueprints for rocket engines" by the time you put the border.
    WHY IS EVERYONE IN SUCH A HURRY?!?! Is someone hurrying them to build that babylon tower again??
    Your tone is very encouraging for new people to try this product. I am glad it has command line input. Maybe now I can migrate from Windows ...

      Hi Ghost Erik; Thank you for your input - all input is extremely valuable. Some viewers state that this tutorial is too slow as you have mentioned. I do agree and have purposely recorded it slow for those who appreciate following at this pace rather than stopping and replaying the tutorial in parts to attempt to understand what is happening. For those who find the slow pace too monotonous they can speed up there video player speed to 1.25X or 1.5X or 1.75X for faster playing. Playback on the RUclips site in a web browser can be changed by pressing the (+,-) keys for speed increase and decrease. It appears that many people are in fact in a "HURRY" these days - time is money. When in Babylon (Rome) do as the Romans do.
      Thank you for your comment.

    Some good general recap. What threw me is it looks like your drawing back to front, be using dims. I would have selected the line by Start (instead of end) - so a line going up is + instead of -, and a line going left of the cursor is going - instead of +. Small point but needing pointing out.

    • @howtopamcom
      @howtopamcom  6 лет назад

      Hi Mike Burditt; Good Point! It is good practice for all Draftpersons to be consistant in the working direction; and preferably that direction comforms to the standardized "norm" - from negative towards the positive.
      Thank you for pointing this out for others to heed.

    Hi Howtopam. Good video for absolute beginners. A suggestion for improvement: Show the basic tools in effect - and show the differences between them, rather than just pointing at them and reading the hint-text out loud. This generally applies to the entire video, but just an example: the snap-options: Show how they work (or don't mention them at all). Otherwise thank you. It's great that you take the time to introduce total newbies to tools like this.

I do not know if it is the speaker's voice, or if he had the mike off-axis, but this video is very difficult to hear without the volume control on my computer cranked to max. I usually cannot handle how loud RUclips videos are with the volume control over half way up. The signal to noise ratio is very poor.

    • @howtopamcom
      @howtopamcom  4 года назад

      Hi a Boswell Inniss; I think you are describing [Angular] dimensions. If the text remains too small to be seen, you can go to [Options] on the upper tool bar and from the drop-down menu choose [Current Drawing Preferences] and from the new small window that opens up choose [Dimensions]. On the [Dimensions] tab window you will see in the left column a field [Text Height] and it is defaulted to "2.5mm" change it to "4.5mm" or "6.5mm" or what ever size you desire. Then in the right column you will see the field [Arrow Size] change that field to your desired size. Now you save your changes and the text and arrow heads on your drawing will appear larger.
      Thank you for you inquiry.

    • @howtopamcom

      Hi a Boswell Inniss; If you choose the polygon [cen,cor] tool and set (6) sides from the upper toolbar then pick your center point, the command-line will request: "select next corner". Now enter the "@" for (relative to) the center point and then type 0,7 after the @. Like this: @0,7 This will create a hexagon (6) sides with each side being "7" units in length. When entered 20 it was darfted downwards. It supposed to be opposite.

    • @howtopamcom
      @howtopamcom  3 года назад +1

      Hi Mill Vanilli; I like to think of the negative (-) symbol as only reverse or backup from the direction that one is currently headed. If I travel 20 units along the 'Y' axis, then, to backup 5 units I must use the (-) negative symbol as "-5" units.

      Hi Tony Collins; Thank you for your comment. I do agree with you about the dark background making the drawing lines obscure. Through the setting the background color can be changed to any shade that is desired. I do most of my drawing with black on white. I am happy to hear that you found the speed of the video acceptable. Some find the video speed too slow, but I suggest to them that up the speed of their video player. The video player settings can be adjusted under playback speed to 1.5X or 2.0x to increase the video speed to a comfortable viewing speed.

Just trim the line until it is the correct length or trim the line to "0" length and then [Lengthen] the line by a (distance) of "0.0128". Try these options. This tool bar has not been customized, however, the buttons can appear differently depending on your operating system default "icon" theme. • @howtopamcom

      Hi Richard Szabo'; If I understand your question correctly, you want to make the number text size larger so it is easier to see? To increase the dimension value size go to the top tool bar and click on "Options". Under "Options" from the drop-down menu choose "Current Drawing Preferences". A new window will open. From the new window choose the "Dimensions" tab. Under the "Dimensions" tab in the left column at the top where it says "Text size & position" choose "Text size". The default setting is likely 2.5 unless you have changed it. By changing the value in this box the dimension value size on your current drawing will change to larger or smaller print. If I have misunderstood your question please comment and I will attempt to provide information to address your new question.

      Hi MustaffaCuppa; There are many shortcuts a cad operator can utilize once adept with the proper functionality of the application. Such shortcuts with keyboard hot keys in conjunction with use of the mirroring tool to duplicate entries around the center axis greatly increase software efficiency. There are other CAD applications for Linux, but Librecad for 2D drawing is the most complete and proficient software available. For 3D solids there is an application called FreeCad that produces solids proficiently. Here is a link to some other Linux CAD softwares:

      Hi a Boswell Inniss; You are not able to open your drawing in librecad? What happens when you have librecad open and drag your drawing file from the storage folder into the librecad view-port? Your librecad 2.1.3 is the most resent release and I also have that version and have had no problems like you are experiencing. If dragging the drawing file into the view-port does not work, check the permissions on your drawing file. Right click on the drawing file and from the drop-down menu choose [properties] and check the "permissions" tab to see if the file is owned by User. If you are the owner of the drawing file and you still cannot open it in librecad try to reinstall librecad. Please comment.

    Hi, are there keyboard shortcuts. Regards, Cy

    • @howtopamcom

      Hi Cy O'Hara; Yes Librecad is completely operational thtough the keyboard by entering commands on the commandline located at the bottom of the drawing window. Pressing the key combination [Ctrl + M] will turn on the commandline function. Here ia a link to the Librecad online manual listing all of the keyboard commands --> wiki.librecad.org/index.php/Commands
      wiki.librecad.org/index.php/LibreCAD_users_Manual
      wiki.librecad.org/index.php/A_short_manual_for_use_from_the_command_line#Using_the_Command_line
      I hope this information is useful for you.
      Thank you;

      Hi, many thanks for your 'keyboard command info, unfortunately, I had a bit of a freez-up, however, it is all very exciting.
      Additionally, my desktop image does not look as good as yoursI I do not have the row of 5 icons on the left, and it does not seem to respond to dragging the frame across?
      Regards,
      Cy

      You can get those via widgets > dock widgets > mark the ones you want.

      Hi again Howtopam, your help has been most useful.
      I do not know if I am imagining it, but it seems to work much smoother on 64 bit and a bit (excuse the pun) slower on 32 bit, but not enough to put me off.
      This is a bit off piste, but I have never been able to make a donation for the LibreCAD, or Mint, I always seem to get booted out. Perhaps it is my Euro's?

    How do I merge all the layers together to see the final pic?

    • @howtopamcom
      @howtopamcom  7 лет назад

      Hi Cat Mock; In the layers box you can select which layers are visible. By selecting each layer and turning on the visibility icon the drawing will then be viewed in the drawing ares as the final pic.
      Thank you;

      Hi Cat Mock; Yes I will post some extra tutorials on LibreCad on this channel in the near future. I plan to produce some shorter videos on select tasks employing different tools.
      Thank you for your inquiry;

      That's great news that you will be posting more tutorials. The video was very helpful and I appreciate the tutorials you make. I look forward to more because I really want to learn LibreCAD. Thanks howtopam.

    Seems like the version you download today April 2020) bears no resemblance to your tutorial, therefore is not really helpful

      If you spend your time looking at the options, you will find that just like the things howtopam stated as "different in the last edition" apply to this one too. They are still there, but under different headings. It isn't the tutorial that is not helpful, it is that programs shuffle their working ideas so that people have to constantly learn new things. But all you need to do in this instance is spend some time navigating your buttons. It's not that difficult.

    It takes 10 minutes to draw a totally pointless border around an A4 paper size. THIS IS NOT CAD - it is nursery class drawing. CAD is about designing and drawing objects. Paper size has no relevance to the proper operation of CAD. I cannot understand anyone purporting to design software claiming to be CAD based on paper size.

    How would a person draw a 3.3125 dia circle using radius circle command? Just that would be informative.

    • @howtopamcom
      @howtopamcom  6 лет назад

      Hi MetallChips 85; Above the drawing window to the right of the "By Layer" - drop-down - menus is another small window labeled "Radius" that appears when any of the "Circle tools" are selected. You can enter your radius of 3.3125 into this little "radius" window above when utilizing the circle "Center with a Radius" tool and then choose a point for the center of your circle to be located within the drawing. Hope this helps.
      Thank you;

      I found a way after posting the question, sometimes that's what it takes i guess. I selected the 'Circle' drop down menu, then selected 'Center,point' ,then selected the center location, then i clicked the empty space below the command line and finally found the spot where a critical dimension could be entered. I tried the same thing using 'Line' 2 points, vertical, horizontal and rectangle, but it says unknown error. How would i properly command this function? TO be honest, i see a lack of information regarding this software, which i see great potential in. I have experience with Autodesk and Mastercam along with over 10 years of Mechanical drafting and on the floor machine work. If i could contribute to the development of software and or tutorials, i would gladly do so.

      Hi MetallChips 85; Glad to hear that you located a place to enter dimensions. Librecad is very command-line oriented for proficient optimum functionality. Just above the spot where you located to enter your dimension is the word "command" and that text will change, giving suggested input pertaining to the tool that you are utilizing. In that spot you will notice that the text will request a "point" or a "radius" or report any errors in the input values attempted. If you have suggestions to contribute tot eh development of the Librecad application, here is a web address where you could perhaps communicate with the developers.
      Thank you;

    Can anyone tell me how do I enter 12'-21/2" for a line ,I am new at this thank you

    • @howtopamcom
      @howtopamcom  7 лет назад

      Hi Sabrina Arturis; I believe, if I understand your question correctly, that you desire to enter the line length into the command line interface - correct? Then you will need to change the fraction 21/2 to a decimal form by divide 2 by 21 which provides a solution of - 0.09523809523. Therefore you may enter into the command line interface 12.09523809523 as your line length.
      Thank you;

      Hi Sabrina Arturis; Just to clarify - the figure is 12' 0.09523809523'' or 12' X 12" = 144 inches plus 0.09523809523 inches. That is - 144.09523809523 inches.
      Thank you;

      12'-21/2" makes no sense as a distance notation. Did you really mean 21/2 inches (10.5) so the program would do the math for you or did you mean to say 12' 2 1/2" as in 12 feet 2.5 inch?
