I saw this comment under the video of Bobby and Dianne’s quick step and I couldn’t put it better myself, they are my winners…..’If someone hadn't watched strictly before and wanted to know why they should I'd show them this dance, and point out that Bobby was a complete beginner a few weeks ago. This dance is what strictly should be about. It was perfection’ ❤❤❤
Johannes is a lovely man. And I think anyone paired with him has an advantage because he has a lot of fans, and he deserves to. I don't think you can blame Layton for doing a job he was asked to do and paid to do? I also can't figure out how Nikita did those lifts, the balance and strength required is phenomenal. I don't think Layton shines more than Nikita though.
How can you say Layton doesn't shine as much as Nikita? In my view, they both radiate equally, despite the unwarranted negativity Layton is facing. I hope I’m not misunderstanding what you’re saying?
@@rebelhenz no I didn't say that! In the video the woman said she thinks Layton was better than Nikita at some bits and I just don't think that's true! I think it's very obvious Nikita is in charge and Layton is following. I think they are as good as each other in some dances, especially this and the Paso. But it's because Layton has worked incredibly hard, and Nikita is a good teacher. I just think he deserves a lot of credit and one of the narratives out there is almost that Layton is already that good. You can see how much he's improved also, through Nikita's teaching and support.
All my votes were for Bobby, he’s never even watched the show before let alone any dancing.. so he’s improved amazingly from first show.. he’ll get my votes 100% on Saturday in the final .. can literally see him in the west end ..
Layton and Nikita's Charleston was just stunning. People moan that Layton has previous dance experience - yes, but this is a NEW dance and he put in so much work with Nikita to get this dance perfect. The hard work those two do to get their routines a brilliant as they are, they deserve every 10 they get. Layton and Nikita aren't lazy. Work, work and more work and people need to appreciate his their work ethic and stop moaning about his previous experience.
Inform them. It's tiring that Ellie has dance training, yet he never mentioned it. Their biased ways are clear. I'm cheering for Layton and Nikita; they truly deserve the win, especially considering Layton's kindness and support for others. James is a hypocrite-advocating for fairness in "Strictly Come Dancing" while being a professional dancer and winning Dancing on Ice. 🧊
@@Carol-or9jl Certainly, I labeled him a hypocrite because he is one. Nowhere did I imply that skating isn't challenging. I'm trained in ice-skating, so spare me the assumptions. His advantage lies in being a professional dancer on "Dancing on Ice." While he might not be an ice-skating expert, the advantage is evident. No need for rudeness-I usually don't bother, but let's keep it civil.
@@rebelhenz And he danced with Denise back in 2012, she was a dancer too! But apparently it was totally okay back then and its only a problem now with Layton, never mind all of the other dancers that have been on the show.
I agree about the dance disaster - I found it really ugly. I am fed up of hearing about Layton's dance experience honestly - there have been many contestants in the past who had dance experience too and noone seemed to get so hot under the collar about them. I guess the result will boil down to whether this is a dance or a popularity contest.
Same, it's very telling when you consider what's different about Layton to all the other celebs with experience including Nigel and Angela this year, and of course all the celebs with previous ballet or other training.
@@ericamacs3875 there's an obvious difference if one is a professional dancer and teaches dance to someone who has done one thing in dance that is not as intense. Comparing everyones talking about jamie to shrek is a bit of a stretch
@@Centaur987 not sure what you mean about Shrek. Nigel was a cruise ship dancer and has done a few musicals. Unless you mean someone else. It's never been an issue before. Everyone hating on a bloke for taking a job he was offered.
@ericamacs3875 he has done bit those aren't as recent. Shrek was Nigels most recent one which was 6 years ago and now hes doing tv acting whereas as layton is currently doing everyone's talking about Jamie. I'm not hating on Jamie, he's great, I just don't want people saying other people have the same current dancing levels/training as it's a bit disingenuous
Even Ellie has some dance experience and that has been played down. Bobby is the only contestant with zero experience he also has a difficult job of leading the dances. He’s the winner for me
I don't agree with your view of Layton, James. There have been people with dance training/experience right back to series one, when Claire Sweeney took part. She went to Italia Conti like Layton and had been in musicals before Strictly just like him. As had your partner Denise van Outen. It's always happened and I imagine it always will happen. And it's fine to have people with experience on the show - it would be boring if we only had 'never danced before' celebs, especially in the early weeks with 15 dances. Others this year could be classed as having been 'professional dancers' in their past or they've had dance training. What Layton has brought to the series is an exceptional dance talent and a huge work ethic (they all have this characteristic, especially those in the semi-final with two dances to learn - it must be exhausting and stressful.) Layton has actually been in more comedy dramas on the telly than he has been in west end musicals. He is the lead actor on BBC comedy 'Bad Education' and wrapped on the most recently filmed series the week strictly training began. I love watching him dance with Nikita and I really hope they win. However there is so much negativity towards him on social media, I really don't think they will. I think they'll take it as a win that they got through to the final with only one dance off. They've been expecting it since week three and every week since, so it's quite an achievement for this year's 'ringer' (Fleur was in 4 dance offs last year, Ashley Roberts had a whole load as well). I am just so glad they got to complete their dance card and we've seen all the dances they can do. I hope they smash the final and get huge enjoyment and pride from it. And I hope Strictly opens more doors for Layton. I would love it if Layton and Nikita did their own dance show at some point. So glad they are doing the Strictly tour next year.
You are so right! Well put. All my friends prefer Ellie while I just love what Layton brings. I feel like a fish out of water with my Strictly gang this season. I’m going to throw caution to the winds and vote A LOT for Layton next weekend, providing he doesn’t mess it up of course, Love Nikita too❤
I wonder if Annabel's votes might go to Layton. I don't think it's impossible, and would love him to win...but mostly want to see their show dance so I hope they get through to the final 2..
They haven't done that for a few years. All the finalists do all three dances. I'm really glad they changed it. So awful for one couple to miss out on a final dance. Think its judge's choice, then showdance, then the dance the couple's choose. Couples have chosen - L&N - AT, E&V - AS, B&D - couple's choice (was on ITT tonight).
I actually prefer it when they have previous experience, or are naturally good from the start. Imagine a series full of Anne Widdecombe, Les Denis and John Sergeant types. It’s fine for a laugh in the first two weeks but after that I want to see amazing dancing frankly.
As a massive Ellie fan I actually thought that Couples Choice was her worst dance of the series. I still want her to win and really, that awful choreography wasn’t her fault. Really hope her show dance is spectacular
I agree. Ellie is my winner but I didn't like her couples choice and I'll admit I was worried about her this week. The relief I felt when she got through on the public vote was intense but she's safe and I hope she does the American smooth again as that was epic.
@@Dee_Lite263 I voted for her all the allocated time and was also super relieved when she was through. Need to top up my balance before this Saturday )))
@@Dee_Lite263 Ellie is like by the public because she and Vito haven't ever been in a dance off in the whole series of Strictly Fleur East who was Vito celebrity partner was in a few dance off.
I would love Bobby and Diane to win, simply because he’s started from nothing, for me , this is Strictly. James you should be a judge on the show, I don’t know if Anton is trying to copy off Len to try and be funny, but the noises he makes are ridiculous, most of the time he can’t string a sentence together.
I found it interesting that somebody compared Molly and Carlos's showdance to Ellie and Vito's couples choice, the similarity shows how blurred the lines are with a couples choice
wish you'd stop fueling those that are hating on layton, like you might not be personally saying nasty things, but you are entertaining those that are, which doesn't make you any better. layton has experience, just like a lot of previous celebs on strictly, he is not a professional, especially in ballroom and latin.
We Layton supporters all wish James would stop but he really is trash actually and to think I actually admired him and his time on strictly etc. I’m just disappointed but not surprised with James now
Not to mention Ashley, who was a trained dancer, and Faye, who had extensive dance experience. There have alway been ringers in Strictly. They rarely win, but it seems this year certain people are acting as if Layton is the only one ever!
James did dancing in ice and has the nerve to attack Layton every week. Layton has every right to be on strictly, and I am sure a lot of people have been thrilled by his dances which have been iconic.
I’m sorry James but you have played a large part in whipping up the public against Layton. Your own partner Denise was dance trained! So many previous contestants have been. Just let him be. This show is entertainment and he is doing that brilliantly.
@@nicolasimmonds6897 I cannot believe a magazine like Hello has collaborated with someone who has led the public to bully and troll a contestant. There are other strictly dancers like the Clifton’s, Karen Hardy Ian Whaite etc who would have been more objective. Ellie has also had dance training before she joined strictly, you could see that from day 1. James is now making her out like she didn’t have a clue when she started. This is someone who got 29 on. Her first dance and has never had anything less than 34 from week 4. You cannot get such marks without dance training
I love Layton. From the first episode I just thought he had ' it' I know he won't win because of his background being a professional dancer but he still has to learn Ballroom and Latin and all the routines. I agree some dances didn't suit him but doesn't everyone have that dance they don't really want I.e. jive !!!! The public will choose Ellie and Vito for sure...but Layton is my winner 🏆 🎉
I don’t understand these comments around “Not what Strictly is all about”. Is there a rule book that details this? Strictly has always selected a range of backgrounds to different skill level and tried to have a diverse slate so that there is something for everyone. Let’s calm down, enjoy the show and stop hating on people because they have a bit more talent than the other people with dance experience who have been on the show.
Right decision for Annabel to go. Johannes did an amazing job with the routines. She has done well and has improved so much. Loved the quickstep as there was traditional quickstep steps. Loved this routine. Nikita and Layton did so well with both routines. There was light and shade in the rhumba routine. Their Charleston routine reminded me of Gene Kelly dancing routines.
Exactly, this whole “they need to start off without being able to walk and then at the end can do a bit of a jig” storyline makes me sick. Its an entertainment show! It’s about entertainment. Layton entertains.
But it’s an entrainment show at its core not really about being the best dancer. Particularly when you have Layton who is a dancer and then Bobby having never danced before . The two can’t be compared against each other to make it a dance competition
Layton & Nikita's dances are very emotive, very special when u watch a dance & u feel different kinds of emotion & that's exactly what happens everytime I watch the boys. U can't buy that. Yes their Charleston was incredible but I thought it would be. I was shocked how good their Rumba was a very tough dance for the male celeb & I thought Layton did a magnificent job given he's not as good in hold or hasn't been throughout much of the Series. It didn't have too much attack I genuinely thought it was stunning so lovely to see that softer side to Layton too. Their rumba compared to what I was expecting REALLY impressed me 👏👏
For me I'm rooting for Bobby. Pray there is a miracle because everyone saying Ellie will win yes she's good but for me very overated that couple choice was not it. So yeah bobby for the win
James said it’s about the one who has improved the most but the truth is Annabel improved the most. She went from a 4 to a 10, was down marked for her ballroom. She was the most nine dancer, and she achieved the most emotionally and technically. Her journey was the most interesting. Her and Bobby. So I have to disagree. I’m the most impressed by Annabel because she was going through so much, and yet she could achieve all she did. I won’t change my mind. I’m most impressed by her, and I do think she and Bobby both should have been in the final. Motsie is right, we don’t want to see perfection, we want to see something real, yet beautifully danced Xx
I’m voting Layton & Nikita to win (unless something goes wrong on the night), and whilst I agree that the producers should not be inviting such experienced celebrities on the show, they have now, he accepted and that’s where we are. I still believe that even with his experience, it’s not ballroom or Latin experience, so he has still had to train his body, feet and natural ability into new dance styles. I think Nikita has shone like never before and the grace in which they have handled abuse online and the constant mention of other contestants being ‘what strictly is truly about’ every week, has really endeared me to them. It’s hurtful because it’s not Layton’s fault that the producers asked him onto the show. They shouldn’t put people in this position knowing they’ll get marked more harshly and will get hate online. Also if he was too good for the show then why hasn’t he got 10’s every week? It’s because even he has found certain styles difficult to master because he is NOT trained in ballroom or Latin. He has been on a learning journey like the others and wow has he had to work extra hard to earn his 10’s when he has deserved them a lot earlier on. I feel like I did with Giovanni and Rose, this is a partnership made in heaven. ❤
He hasn’t had to work any harder than the other contestants . He is a performer and what has disappointed me is the fact nearly all his dances are turned into performance dances. Of course he is the best, would be strange to have a professional dancer who wasn’t the best. Anyone’s game to win in the final.
Layton and Nikita’s Charleston was JAW DROPPINGLY GOOD!! I was gasping for breath because it was just so amazing and kept me on my toes! Wow!! Well deserved 40!!! Also I’ve loved this series so much! I hope you do come back next year too! 😊
Sorry disagree on your opinion with Layton and Nikita. That Charleston was so difficult. He has two dances to master and he busted his butt in training. He worked hard trying to fix his timing issues. Pro dancer? Really? Aren’t you a pro? Could you do that dance. Stop at the compliment instead of adding the hate comment. It was epic because he worked for it!
To add… though Layton struggles in ballroom he is a pro so he has not been on a journey. Ellie? She’s been consistent since week one. She has not been on a journey. So looks like Bobby should win this year. Right? Ridiculous
Always enjoy listening to your discussion and views. Thank you. I am a fan of Ellie and Vito as she has been so consistently good throughout the series, but last week was not their best. They were not dances that I wanted to watch over and over again. I think Bobby is a lovely young man and it is true that he has peaked at the right time - his quickstep was marvellous. I understand that they have chosen to do Couple's Choice for the final which will pull at the heartstring again. Ellie and Vito have decided to dance their American Smooth which I am pleased about as I enjoyed it the most. Layton and Nikita are doing the Tango. It will all depend on what the judges choose for them and on their show dances. I believe that what they are given very much dictates who the powers that be want to push to win. Very often the final can be a bit of an anti climax as they are all so tired and sometimes the show dances can be disappointing though always sad when it has ended. Don't the weeks go by so very quickly?
I agree with your comment on Ellie and Vito show dance . It didn’t blow me away so I was shocked that it was going to be their dance off dance had they been bottom 2. However I still voted for them because as a viewer I am voting for my favourites over the whole series and who I think deserves to win rather than just the one dance.
Layton has worked with Arlene Phillips and she said he was the best dancer in the UK. I’m sorry I don’t mind people having dance experience but a professional dancer is something completely different and how do the rest of the contestants have a chance if he is in the bottom two he was never going home. I also hated Ellie’s show dance and I found it really cringe and the outfit didn’t help at all. I also picked up on the steps in the in the Cha cha and was surprised nobody called it out. Bobby and Diane stole the show for me in their great ballroom dance opening the show. I stress Layton is not just someone with dance experience he’s an actual professional and has taught classes for goodness sake.
Jay McGuinness was ballet and dance trained form age of 12 and arguably had the same amount of training as Leighton (as far as I can tell from what is availalbe to read on internet). No one gave Jay the flack that Leighton is getting. At the end of the day its an entertainment show and part of the entertainment is the personal stories, the partnership as well as the dances. Sometimes the best dancer wins such as Jay or Kelvin for example in previous years, other times its the most popular celebrity or couple and for me thats the nature of the show.
I don't understand Alexander burke got alot of issues too but she didnt have dance training like Jay Mcguiness or jill halfpenny but everyone was moaning she had dance training same as Molly 😕 The British public pick and choose who they want to be angry about but previous winners have extensive dance training!!
I have to agree with you K James regarding choice of music for the dances - trying to dance a Paso, Argentine Tango or Jive to current pop songs just does not work, 5:52 I've been banging on about this for as long as I can remember. What I've noticed this season is that that upbeat numbers for fast dances eg jive, salsa, samba have been played at a slower tempo. I also think that the whole format of the show needs changing up - looking very samey. Having I still love strictly, look forward to each new batch of contestants and miss it when it finishes.
I can’t stand the fact that Layton is a trained dancer, it unfair on the contestants that start from scratch! Personally I love Bobby and dianne. I would love him too win and Ellie 2nd ❤
I hope Bobby wins I’ve been voting from every week not just one call 34 so I want to win. I know there is a good too and I don’t suppose it will win, but I really want to win the polls on my horse thing that one those two so good luck Bobby try your hardest love get it perfect so you can win. Thank you
Bobby to win for me, he's the only one of the 3 with no dance training, Ellie went to theatre school and studied dance for years, which is fine, there's always certain celebs with dance experience, but I personally prefer to vote for the celeb with the most improvement.
Bobby also went to stage school where he learnt acting singing and dance . in fact it's worse as eastenders is his first job all the dance training will be fresh in his mind
@@kimcornelissen1529Kim can you say where you’ve got this information from? If you google you will see Bobby left school early, went to modelling. Modelled for some top brands. You’ll also see interviews of him saying how eastenders was is first ever acting experience and he had to learn everything on the job
Is James saying Ellie hasn't had dance training? To me she looked good (in terms of feet and legs) right from the beginning. She's lost a lot of weight and smartened the presentation but she's not the most improved and I simply don't believe she was totally untrained before.
Well said! People have voted for Annabel based on emotions. She would have been gone weeks ago had it not been for that. And Bobby's journey is just amazing!!! Ellie was disappointing this week I felt. She's been great through the series but I'm starting to wonder if she peaked too early. I haven't felt the same joy watching them in the last 2-3 weeks. I agree that their couples' choice was disappointing and if anybody else had done that, they would have gotten the 7s or 8s. And their chacha was ok but I felt there was something off with it
Not true, Annabel had been improving week after week up until her Paso in week 10, THAT'S why she stayed in the competition. Emotions played a part, sure, but improvement is what people want to see
Agree with James on most of the dances love layton and nikita but bobby for me has been on a journey and being so tall and giving his very best Bobby for me is the winner ❤❤
There have been many contestants male and female on strictly over the years who have had dance experience and been in Musical theatre shows . Not once did I see the negativity and vitriol as thrown at Layton shown to them. Why should he not take part in strictly ? They all did the show for the same reason as layton the had no dance experience in ballroom or Latin and wanted to learn a new skill. by the way Bobby , Ellie and Layton and all other actors and actresses this season went to stage school all trained in acting , singing and dance Layton is just exceptionally good.
Another great review James. I agree once again with all your analysing but I will say I think it’s shameful how much criticism Layton has had from the public. He got the gig because strictly wanted him so of course he’s gonna give 100% That’s what you do if your competing. I think for this to change the only way forward is too have the show with celebrities taking part having absolutely no previous dance experience. And that ain’t gonna happen so the likes of dancers like Layton will continue to get stick. Gonna miss this weekly round up James but hopefully more to come in 2024😊
Is Layton a professional dancer though? I class you and the pros, who dance for a living, as professional dancers who dance regularly and to certain dances. Layton's an actor with dance experience. I bet he's never danced a charleston, cha cha, rumba etc in his life.
You are so right regarding Layton. He’s incredible but it’s not right. I have no idea why the BBC let him come on the show. Makes me so sad. Some other dancers have gone out because as you say it’s not fair on the other celebrities and professionals to be honest.
Because they need to have a good standard of dancing in order to entertain everyone. There are many people who want to see people like Layton on the show. Thats part of the reason Strictly is so special- there’s someone for everyone.
The BBC didn't let him come on the show. The casting team and the producers invited him to do the show. His dances have been the best thing this series. Dance is subjective, but for me he and Nikita have been the absolute highlight this year. Did you also complain about Nigel (trained in musical theatre at arts ed, began his career as a professional dancer on cruise ships and been in more musicals than Layton, including dance heavy ones like Guys and Dolls)? Or Angela S, who started her career as a professional dancer with an Irish dancing company on an international tour? Amanda was going to be a dancer before injury caused her to switch to acting, Angela R wanted to join the Bluebell dance company and trained in ballet, Ellie did ballet, tap and street and so on and so on. They were all invited by the producers to take part, they all bring something to the show and they all deserve their place - because the Strictly team cast them in this year's show.
So in other words they packed the show with contestants full of dance experience and Layton ran circles around them. LOL but seriously this is why this years contestants from the word go started at such a high standard . @@catherine140864
Hhh I mean Charleston isn’t one I’ve enjoyed watching in a long time- but Yh def8notely liked Lakita’s a lot- Rumba’s probs one of my fav dances to see for men (when done well), so I still think that was my fav of the night. Likely due to how soul-wrenching beautiful it was. Agree on that Couple’s Choice and Paso though- none of them sit well with me (esp the CC sadly).
Will miss these truths. I didn’t like E&V C/C was strange. I think they shld have dedicated week for C/C so all do one same week. I loved L&N C was epic! I really hope B&D surprise everyone & win. Have enjoyed his journal from novice to dancer plus being so tall against a petit Diane. He’s such a joy to watch & will have my votes. But best of luck to them all & more importantly hope they all enjoy their last dances 🙌🙌🙌
I agree with everything you said James! 🙋🏻♀️☺️ I'm pleased with the 3 couples going through and I really hope either Bobby or Ellie win. ❤️❤️although I did love the charlston👌👏👏👏❤️🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
the final will miss angela scanlon!! layton was fortunate to be kept in by the judges against her!! hopefully either bobby or ellie will win over layton, otherwise there will be 2 or 3 same sex couples next year!!!
Always look forward to your honest review. Would of liked to hear your thoughts on craig voting to save annabel. Do you think craig has something against Dianne. It seems that way every series.
Totally agree about the ghastly couple’s choices. Fortunately, there have been a few this time that have broken the side-by-side boompety-boom, so-called ‘contemporary street’ pop video format, but Ellie and Vito’s wasn’t one of them. Had they been realistically marked they would most probably have been in the dance-off, and having bizarrely chosen their couple’s choice over their cha-cha, Ellie and Vito - my erstwhile favourites to win - would be out of the competition.
With Bobby's Paso I felt that he did the best he could - for me you need some maturity and life experience for a man to dance it well. In Spain they teach the boys to pull a face when dancing flamenco which doesn't look good to me and this is what came across in Bobby's Paso but still he did well.
Ellie and Vito were weak this week. Layton was just unbelievable and he gets my vote based on his resilience from all the keyboard warriors. He has contained his dances and has produced the most beautiful dances. Vote for Layton!!!!
I don't accept this "fully trained dancers" term James uses - he has experience in dancing, but Strictly is about every type and style of dance. Layton is not like Nikita or even James Jordan, far from it, and I feel it is totally unfair to label Layton as a professional dancer, he isn't in my opinion. He is an actor FIRST, and then someone who has had experience in dancing.
Exactly, and I honestly can’t believe he said that Layton danced the Charleston better than the pros on Strictly could. I think that’s incredibly disrespectful to the pros. Layton might’ve been better than Nikita but it’s a stretch to say he’s better than the other pros.
I agree he had to learn all these different dances like everyone else he would never had danced any of these kind of dances anywhere before strictly and he has had very negative remarks about him made from the public the dance he did last week musical week was outstanding the way he danced with other dancers leading the pack l loved it l can honestly say l have watched it over and over that was my favourite dance brilliant music😊😊😊
Ellie and Vito have been my favourite couple all series since week 1 but I was so disappointed with the couples choice routine and felt sorry for her being given that. They had not danced Waltz or (ballroom) Tango before and either of those dances would have been a good pairing with cha cha. Particularly Tango would have been epic and I’m gutted we never got to see them do that. Oh well roll on the final and I’m sure they’ll bring out 3 awesome dances and win 🎉😊
Loads have had dance experience at Drama school Nigel had as someone pointed out Jay did. But the delight of the underdog improving like Chris Hollins with Ola is special and will always get my vote. I presume Kelvin Fletcher also had some dance experience as an actor. Nobody gave them the stick Leyton is getting! He still has to take on choreography weekly and remember it. But Dianne and Bobby will get my vote this year as long as I like it on the day. Ellie & Vito could pop them if better for me. Loved this by James and I really hope he could replace Craig as a judge. But he won’t be popular with that many. Go James your opinion is spot on for me! X
I completely agree with you James having danced since the age of five I think strictly has gone too far from the ballroom and Latin dances personally Layton is too full on for me !!! I would like Bobby to win because it’s so hard for a male celebrity to lead his partner. Just my opinion !!!!
Layton and Nikita for the win. Regarding James, I sense he's overly involved in the Layton situation. While he's candid in many aspects, his communication could be more refined. 🏆
Honestly, he couldn’t be more biased if he tried. Saying “I don’t hate them, its just my opinion” doesn’t make any of what he said okay. He can have his opinion of course but seriously EVERY SINGLE TIME he goes on a 2 hour rant about it.
I’m with you James, I really dislike couple’s choice on the whole, with a handful of exceptions. I especially don’t like hip hop/commercial style routines as I feel they have no place in strictly, and belong in other dance competitions. I was very disappointed in Ellie’s routine, especially when it came after a cracking cha cha. It looked clunky and kind of rushed and definitely didn’t do her justice. The judges scores were very strange for it. Absolutely loved Layton and Nikita’s Charleston especially as I’m a huge Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor fan. It was just amazing.
Ellie and Vito are great but this constant trolling of Layton about his dance experience when he had no ballroom experience and when Ellie also had prior dance training has just put me off them. I would prefer Bobby as the surprise winner if Layton doesn’t, than Ellie. James is saying that Ellie was not good in the beginning but you could definately see from the first dance that Ellie was not a novice. Her musicality and fluidity was already very good.Trolling should not be encouraged
Agreed - and James should listen to his previous episode as he called out her training experience - meaning she was already good compared to the others with no experience such as Zara or N Kanda
So do we know why Amanda left yet?? And do you think she'll come back for the final ... She was in my original final line up when I made predictions months ago. Love the three finalists :)
It gets very tiring hearing you say Layton is a professional dancer he is in theatre but not ballroom dancing. Do you not hear Layton saying he didn’t think he’d do the paso or Charleston . I’ll say again I’m trained in textiles but I can’t do everything in the subject because it’s too hard. And if Ellie and Vito win in my eyes it’s a fix because that’s all I’m hearing that they’re going to win.
@@MoominJude The dances are not his choice they’re chosen for him. We all know that it’s practice practice practice that can help you do something well. He’s had a really tough time from people saying one thing and another but he carries on!! Which is his way of sticking 2 fingers up at people and I admire that about him. Know matter what people say he’s just gone out there and give his all which is admirable.
@@MoominJude he;s done as much ballroom as ellie has and no actually their dances do all have content in them but whatever he did people would say he was both too good and too bad at the dances
Agree..apart from the fix bit. I said the other day, someone can be a linguist and speak a number of languages and do so professionally but that doesn't mean they don't have to work at learning a new language
I'm so glad James Jordan has the honesty to say what many of us have been thinking, namely that the show should not be about professional dancers masquerading as contestants.
Right from the start they have had people with the same level of training and experience as layton but somehow they didn’t get the level of abuse he’s gotten
Who did ballet training until she had to choose tennis? That out and out amateur? I loved her BTW but you have to be realistic that most of had some dance training in their lives.
I agree with James, I dont thin k it is fair that proffesionals are in competition with people that have never danced before and we can see theire progress Latons Charlston was amazing, but for me he is an unfair advantage, why not do a competition with proffesionals.
James - there is a way that Layton and Nikita could have been in the dance off, indeed with Ellie and Vito ….if the public vote had been in *reverse* order of the judges leader board, I.e. Annabel and JoJo scoring top with the public, then Bobby and Dianne second etc. In that scenario ALL 4 couples would have 5 points and then when there is a tie, the public vote counts so Layton and Ellie would be the 2 with the lowest public votes and would have been in the dance off. Clearly this complete reverse order did not happen in reality, but it could have in theory.
I’m sure other celebrities had dance training like Layton. He has worked hard and would have to to pull off the Charleston that he did. It was superb. I would like either Ellie or Layton to win.
I love watching layton , but heres the thing if you have high enough of dance training then its easier to pick up choreography. We have to say they dont learn a waltz or a cha cha they learn the chorography and not the actual steps. They wouldnt be able to get up on a floor and dance a cha cha by putting different steps together on the fly. My niece did dance to degree level, her loves where ballet, contemporary and tap. Yet she ended up learning ballroom and latin and teaching ballroom and latin as she picked it up quickly.
You didn’t even critique Annabel’s dances 😢 Was curious about her scores as I thought the salsa was over marked and the V waltz was under marked. Then again, thought all the scores were bonkers this week!!
Nigel Harman who won a Tony for his role in shrek. In fact every actress or actor on strictly has gone to stage school where they learn to act sing and dance for there careers in theatre, tv, film and musical theatre. Layton is the triple threat as he can act sing and dance to an incredible high stranded.@@rosepetal34
James is very soft on Ellie's Couple's Choice - it wasn't 'not good', it was awful. Everything was just bad: her costume, choreography, music... Very sad to watch. Layton was very good as usual, but his Charleston was more like acrobatics to me, not a dance. My favourite dance of the week was Bobby's Quickstep. It was so light and genuine that I thought: dear God, I want to dance it too!
Really been loving these videos - and James your analysis is interesting, honest and respectful to all. Loved the semi-final - Jojo and Annabel were lovely. I have so much awe for the professionals and how they guide their ‘celebrity’. Not to diminish anyone but Ellie and Vito are my faves but love and respect to all. ❤
Agree with James, as ever ❤ I’m completely torn this year, love all three, but do feel that Strictly should be for non professional dancers. Ellie is probably my winner for that reason. Love Bobby too, but think Ellie probably has the edge….BUT….who do I tune in to watch and love best of all …Layton and Nikita ❣️ Its not his fault that Strictly allowed him to enter and there have been previous winners with dance experience so in that case he deserves to win also. We will see ……😁x
Ellie and Vito's couples choice very similar to Mollie Rainford and Carlos's to "Kiss" and not as well executed. I also thought that Ellie and Vito's cha cha to Mambo Italiano was similar to Georgia and Giovanni's dance to "Volare" I realise that they were two different dances but again poorly executed by Ellie.
I know this is bad to admit but I really wanted to see Layton and Bobby in the dance off. We never really had 2 of the stronger couples facing off. But either way, while I’m sad Annabelle and Johannes left, I was SO happy when Craig voted to save them. I’ve never cried as much for a couple during Strictly as much as I did for Annabelle. But yes, I admit it was the right time for her to go. I imagine had it not been for Amanda and Nigel going she’d probably have left earlier. But however it might have been Annabelle’s dances are the ones I will remember! As for Layton, I don’t think he will win and I kind of hope he doesn’t. The hate he is getting is DISGUSTING! Though I’d love him to win to prove the haters wrong, I worry that would only send more hate his way :,( I think Ellie and Vito will win. And I’d be happy with that! Yeah this week wasn’t their greatest moment…apart from Vito in those grey trousers 👀
I will never understand why last week's scores were carried over. Someone was going to leave the show last week, so that it was by withdrawal rather than through the dance-off should have made no difference whatsoever, but carrying it forward certainly affected the results this week. I was very sad to see Annabel and Johannes leave. It being their time or not, Annabel's journey and growth, and in her case steps towards healing too I think, through the rounds is what makes Strictly for me. Layton and Nikita were their usual brilliant selves; Bobby and Diane's Quickstep was lovely (although I wish Shirley would remember she is not his mum) and Ellie and Vito's Cha Cha Cha was my favourite dance of the night, but... I really didn't enjoy their Couple's Choice and I also didn't enjoy Bobby and Diane's Paso Doble. Bobby's expression, rather than being proud and confident looked grim, a bit like he'd swallowed a lemon and was trying to keep it down and, for me, he danced too vertically but with chest out and bum out rather than curved and with his hips forward. Perhaps he should have studied Vito's positioning in his Paso... Ellie and Vito for the win, for me, although if they do a show dance anything like their Couple's Choice my votes may go to Bobby and Diane. I've really enjoyed watching these reviews every week - will you be doing one after the final? Hope so. And yes, you should be a judge, but somehow I don't see the BBC asking.
Great review as always. E&V couples choice was so disappointing, it didn’t match the blurb in the video beforehand and was so similar to Fleur & Vito’s couples choice that it seemed like lazy choreography. It probably wasn’t but it seemed like it was!
Bobby for me was the surprise of the night! I thought he really brought his A game!
Really routing for Bobby to win! Love the journey of seeing a non dancer with no experience learning and falling in love with dance!
The quickstep was brilliant. Had such good energy.
Johanes is an absolute star, when he is dancing I can not take my eyes off him.
You can't take away Annabel had her fans too he's fallen earlier with other ladies so not all votes due to him !
Nikita is fabulous to watch , Layton not so much
All my votes were for Bobby, he’s never even watched the show before let alone any dancing.. so he’s improved amazingly from first show.. he’ll get my votes 100% on Saturday in the final .. can literally see him in the west end ..
I take it you think James is a professional ice dancer ? How silly you are to think ice skating is so easy, show your skating skills then !
"people moan", its called having an opinion , and everyone is entitled to one .
I'm not sure dance experience is the same as actually being a dancer as a profession. . huge difference.
He’s the winner for me
Ellie has been on a soap since she was nine, I doubt dancing was high on her list, nice to see her grow.
@@Carol-or9jl Ellie went to theatre school full time for years, all theatre schools study dance intensely, she DOES have dance training.
What Layton has brought to the series is an exceptional dance talent and a huge work ethic (they all have this characteristic, especially those in the semi-final with two dances to learn - it must be exhausting and stressful.)
Layton has actually been in more comedy dramas on the telly than he has been in west end musicals.
I’m going to throw caution to the winds and vote A LOT for Layton next weekend, providing he doesn’t mess it up of course,
Love Nikita too❤
I wonder if Annabel's votes might go to Layton. I don't think it's impossible, and would love him to win...but mostly want to see their show dance so I hope they get through to the final 2..
Layton is a brilliant dancer ❤ but Ellie is my favourite to win ❤️
@@Dee_Lite263she will! They said it on ITT 😊
@@Dee_Lite263 I voted for her all the allocated time and was also super relieved when she was through. Need to top up my balance before this Saturday )))
@@ririannevg fantastic news
@@Dee_Lite263 Ellie is like by the public because she and Vito haven't ever been in a dance off in the whole series of Strictly Fleur East who was Vito celebrity partner was in a few dance off.
I would love Bobby and Diane to win, simply because he’s started from nothing, for me , this is Strictly.
James you should be a judge on the show, I don’t know if Anton is trying to copy off Len to try and be funny, but the noises he makes are ridiculous, most of the time he can’t string a sentence together.
Yes
Ellie also started from nothing, she just doesn't look like she's had as much of a journey as Bobby, but either of them for the win.
I found it interesting that somebody compared Molly and Carlos's showdance to Ellie and Vito's couples choice, the similarity shows how blurred the lines are with a couples choice
Bobby is the natural winner this year - yes.
wish you'd stop fueling those that are hating on layton, like you might not be personally saying nasty things, but you are entertaining those that are, which doesn't make you any better.
layton has experience, just like a lot of previous celebs on strictly, he is not a professional, especially in ballroom and latin.
We Layton supporters all wish James would stop but he really is trash actually and to think I actually admired him and his time on strictly etc.
I’m just disappointed but not surprised with James now
James why is it only an issue with Layton? What about Debbie McGee, Kevin Fletcher and Jill Halpfenny who were west end stars
Not to mention Ashley, who was a trained dancer, and Faye, who had extensive dance experience. There have alway been ringers in Strictly. They rarely win, but it seems this year certain people are acting as if Layton is the only one ever!
And your own previous dance partner Denise Van Outen, James!
Couples choice should be a one week theme in week 4 or 5
Great idea 👍
Nikita is a good choreography and Layton is a good student. They give me goosebumps each time they dance. Well done❤❤
It did used to be what Strictly was about,. Ballroom and Latin dance steps.Has morphed into a poor version of Dancing with the stars .
I'll be voting for Layton and Nikita, they've produced some of the most entertaining dances ever on the show and that's what I think it's all about
Exactly, this whole “they need to start off without being able to walk and then at the end can do a bit of a jig” storyline makes me sick. Its an entertainment show! It’s about entertainment. Layton entertains.
Layton and Nikita for me absolutely brilliant in every way he deserves to win best dancer ever on strictly
But it’s an entrainment show at its core not really about being the best dancer. Particularly when you have Layton who is a dancer and then Bobby having never danced before . The two can’t be compared against each other to make it a dance competition
@@Happydayzzz_ he’s provided the best entertainment he deserves to win
Layton & Nikita's dances are very emotive, very special when u watch a dance & u feel different kinds of emotion & that's exactly what happens everytime I watch the boys. U can't buy that. Yes their Charleston was incredible but I thought it would be. I was shocked how good their Rumba was a very tough dance for the male celeb & I thought Layton did a magnificent job given he's not as good in hold or hasn't been throughout much of the Series. It didn't have too much attack I genuinely thought it was stunning so lovely to see that softer side to Layton too. Their rumba compared to what I was expecting REALLY impressed me 👏👏
Routing for Bobby to win the glitter ball.
For me I'm rooting for Bobby. Pray there is a miracle because everyone saying Ellie will win yes she's good but for me very overated that couple choice was not it. So yeah bobby for the win
laytan charleston was epic the best ive seen brillant and the rumba was fantastic
I think what he means is that technically Bobby has improved the most. You can’t trust the judges scoring , it has been all over the place.
I didn't like Ellie and Vito's Couples Choice - like a poor version of Fleur and Vito's one. But I still want her to win the final!
Layton is brilliant
I'm casting my vote for Layton as I believe he'll excel in the finals and truly deserves to win. 🏆
Please do vote for them!!! I cannot unfortunately...
He hasn’t had to work any harder than the other contestants . He is a performer and what has disappointed me is the fact nearly all his dances are turned into performance dances. Of course he is the best, would be strange to have a professional dancer who wasn’t the best.
Anyone’s game to win in the final.
Craig definitely has a weird vendetta against Dianne. How do three judges spot the same mistake and he doesn’t
It’s pretty blatant by now. What the hell has she done to upset him
Craig's vote created some drama which I think was the point.
The public choose the winner in the end. I don’t see why you all make such a fuss out of it.
Karim was a better dancer than Kelvin but he was the designated ringer that year and got huge amounts of hate
I don't understand Alexander burke got alot of issues too but she didnt have dance training like Jay Mcguiness or jill halfpenny but everyone was moaning she had dance training same as Molly 😕 The British public pick and choose who they want to be angry about but previous winners have extensive dance training!!
@@_dont_mind_me yes I forgot about Karin he was fab too :)
I have to agree with you K
James regarding choice of music for the dances - trying to dance a Paso, Argentine Tango or Jive to current pop songs just does not work, 5:52 I've been banging on about this for as long as I can remember. What I've noticed this season is that that upbeat numbers for fast dances eg jive, salsa, samba have been played at a slower tempo. I also think that the whole format of the show needs changing up - looking very samey. Having I still love strictly, look forward to each new batch of contestants and miss it when it finishes.
james laytan did billy elliot he did it when he was 12,as i said ballet is another dance,Ballroom is soso different its not the same
I can’t stand the fact that Layton is a trained dancer, it unfair on the contestants that start from scratch! Personally I love Bobby and dianne. I would love him too win and Ellie 2nd ❤
Ellie definitely hasn't started from scratch! Her dance training is visible from Week 1
Ellie mentioned her dance experience on the launch show, shes no novice.
I hope Bobby wins I’ve been voting from every week not just one call 34 so I want to win. I know there is a good too and I don’t suppose it will win, but I really want to win the polls on my horse thing that one those two so good luck Bobby try your hardest love get it perfect so you can win. Thank you
I feel irs Ellie's to lose although she's my least preferred winner as I find her performances bland.
@@kimcornelissen1529 Umm, nope, he didn't, he also never studied to be an actor, but I think you already know that.
Yes, she went to theatre school full time, they studied dance.
Emotions played a part, sure, but improvement is what people want to see
I really like James on these videos. He is honest and explains his opinions well and is very sensible
Agree with James on most of the dances love layton and nikita but bobby for me has been on a journey and being so tall and giving his very best
Bobby for me is the winner ❤❤
Gonna miss this weekly round up James but hopefully more to come in 2024😊
well that will never happen as then it will only be down to sports stars , comedians and maybe a few news reporters.
Agree with everything you said😂
I just hope Ellie & Vito pull it out of the bag for the final. 🤞🏻
He was asked to come on the show / it is absolutely right
Hhh I mean Charleston isn’t one I’ve enjoyed watching in a long time- but Yh def8notely liked Lakita’s a lot- Rumba’s probs one of my fav dances to see for men (when done well), so I still think that was my fav of the night.
I didn't like Bobbie and Diane Paso Doble dance l preferred their Quickstep.
Agree Juan, however, Bobby’s quickstep more than made up for it! Loved it!
@@Liamxroberts Seems people think Layton is a professional, he is not. He acts first.
Keep on thinking that
@@HollyCheadle The show is over next week, so at least I wont have to
I agree he had to learn all these different dances like everyone else he would never had danced any of these kind of dances anywhere before strictly and he has had very negative remarks about him made from the public the dance he did last week musical week was outstanding the way he danced with other dancers leading the pack l loved it l can honestly say l have watched it over and over that was my favourite dance brilliant music😊😊😊
Unfortunately Layton won’t win as Ellie is more popular with the public. For me he is my strictly winner ❤
I’m really going to miss seeing your take on this I have loved it please do something else & continue x
I agree. Strictly is about taking a novice and teaching them to dance. 🤷🏼♀️
I want to hear your thoughts on the dog in the pro routine?!
No, she already said she won't come back for the final
It gets very tiring hearing you say Layton is a professional dancer he is in theatre but not ballroom dancing. Do you not hear Layton saying he didn’t think he’d do the paso or Charleston . I’ll say again I’m trained in textiles but I can’t do everything in the subject because it’s too hard. And if Ellie and Vito win in my eyes it’s a fix because that’s all I’m hearing that they’re going to win.
He hasn't done much ballroom dancing though, it's been all about showdances. Most of their dances have little content of the actual dance.
Jay McGuiness was the nearest, but even he didn't attend two dance schools.@@rosepetal34
James, you and perri kiely shouldn't have done DOI since you both were trained dancers.
I agree I was disappointed with the couple's choice they could of done a lot better, but I still want them to win
I agree with you James some dances marked higher than should have been hope you can do DOI reviews when the new season starts
I did not think Ellie and Big Boy's couples choice was their best at all, I think I agree with you James about couples choice but hope they win ❤❤
I thought that couples choice in the semi final is strange because the following week they do a show dance. Too same-y!
With that Couples Choice, it looks like a modern Jazz routine... it had proper technique. I gave it a 9.
I think that the problem with having semi-pros like Layton on the show is denying a place for an out-and-out amateur like Anabelle Croft.
Who did ballet training until she had to choose tennis? That out and out amateur? I loved her BTW but you have to be realistic that most of had some dance training in their lives.
He's not a semi pro he's a pro west end actor/dancer.
She messed up in the dance off, she wouldn’t and shouldn’t have made the final regardless.
you gotta have a certain dance level to make the final and Annabel would have lost a dance off to anyone else this week
@@LiamxrobertsMotsi Anton and Shirley made the right choice with Bobby but Annabel's Viennese waltz was the best out of the 2 dances she did
I agree with James, I dont thin k it is fair that proffesionals are in competition with people that have never danced before and we can see theire progress Latons Charlston was amazing, but for me he is an unfair advantage, why not do a competition with proffesionals.
Loved Bobbys paso
I love watching layton , but heres the thing if you have high enough of dance training then its easier to pick up choreography. We have to say they dont learn a waltz or a cha cha they learn the chorography and not the actual steps. They wouldnt be able to get up on a floor and dance a cha cha by putting different steps together on the fly.
My niece did dance to degree level, her loves where ballet, contemporary and tap. Yet she ended up learning ballroom and latin and teaching ballroom and latin as she picked it up quickly.
You didn’t even critique Annabel’s dances 😢
Was curious about her scores as I thought the salsa was over marked and the V waltz was under marked.
Then again, thought all the scores were bonkers this week!!
Yes there have been contestants who have had dance experience but they dident earn their living dancing and star in musicals .
yes they did denise van outen claire sweeney danny mac and ashley roberts for a starts
I think James you need to be one of the judges now that Craig is exiting. The likes of Motsis have lost the plot . Change is needed next year.
Actually agree with everything you say 👏🏻👏🏻😊
I hope that someone does their Argentine Tango again in the final.
i agree with you it is not what it is all about they cannot lose this is about not being a dancer not fair why is he here he can dance
James should be a judge
Love this
I know this is bad to admit but I really wanted to see Layton and Bobby in the dance off.
Though I’d love him to win to prove the haters wrong, I worry that would only send more hate his way :,(
I think Ellie and Vito will win.
Hope so. And yes, you should be a judge, but somehow I don't see the BBC asking.
rooting for layton and nikita all the way!!! 💗‼️
Great review as always. E&V couples choice was so disappointing, it didn’t match the blurb in the video beforehand and was so similar to Fleur & Vito’s couples choice that it seemed like lazy choreography. It probably wasn’t but it seemed like it was!
