- In this carp fishing unboxing video, CARPology's Joe Wooltorton gets a first look at New Direction's very neat Magnetic Butt Rests and Front Quick-Release Plates; the latter allows for instant attachment and removal of your alarms, whilst the butt rests, with their rock-solid magnetic grip, mean you'll never have your carp fishing rod pulled in!

NEW? Had them for months now and can confirm they are both excellent. Can set the pod up in no time for a day session and get fishing much quicker! Hold is very strong so no need to worry about losing a rod. Great items.
I've got both, the magnets are really strong. Helps to fix pod down or you end picking pod up with rod. Love them.
Had them for 12 months ...work great 👍
I use the Bank Bug back rod rests. They are more secure than these, do not pull your pod or rod rests out when picking up the rod and they swivel so your rod does not have to be around 90° to the rod rest to work. Buy some extra rod pegs and you can use them with all of your rods. I have been using them for several years with no issues.
The magnets on the alarms looks interesting. It would be good to get some feedback from anglers who use them. They look better than a lot of alternatives out there although the Korum adapter looks like it would be very good.
I wonder if they would affect the operation of roller buzzers, Attx, nevilles etc?
These are great but you cannot use them on a rod pod in my opinion as it lifts the pod into the air. Great for bank sticks and buzz bars
The best of this kind of butt rest by far, is the prologic clinch snag 😉
Iv used fox old style but clamps forever and they never let me down I think these are just a novelty to be fair
Perfect for rod pod when boat fishing
Look great if using bank sticks or goalposts stuck in the ground. Can see problems lifting off if using a pod.
Amazing
I’ve got the nd singlez so il be picking some rests up, don’t fancy the alarm ones tho as will put alarms to high
Question, I think I heard it right but will my delkims fit straight on to those P11 adaptors ??
Got the rod rest myself, they seem really secure, I was a bit worried about the alarm ones though
great video! also can you do a video on the sonik vader x rs cork rods? just bought some
I like!
The bank bugs damage cork made a mess off my hi s free spirit rods they are solid hold but damage to handles 😮
Ordered mine last night and I just put them on my buzz bars
Had them for 3 years. Very convenient, but a mid double carp in the margins will have the back of your rod off in seconds and in the water in a minute. Definitely NOT, for use overnight with a receiver.
Used these for first time at the weekend had 2 takes and both pulled the rod off the rear rest thankfully had snag ears on so didn’t lose the rod but was expecting these to be stronger. I had my bait runner set pretty loose and the bait was probably at 45 degrees from the rod tip and 70-80 yards out. Might work better if your fishing straight out in front but not impressed.
100% people saying their strong must catch roach
Now the carp gets the pod, rods, reels and alarms 😂
i got some the other week, they are very strong magnets, you need a pod that sticks in the ground as i was lifting rods to play a fish an i kept lifting my pod off the floor, quite annoying but they are strong magnets an your rods are always straight an level when sitting on thepod
Sad to see a respected carp fishing magazine promoting Amazon. What about your local tackle shop? Support your local stores or they won't be around much longer (because nothing beats looking around all the little bits and bobs and smelling the sweet sweet bait aroma!)
Had these about 3-4years
Hi curly
My Mrs bought these for me but o don’t use them as I think they look awful on my rods
Tackle tart?
I think they're a good idea but cannot use these with a pod. Every time I picked up the rod it lifted the pod also
Lift your rod at an angle, that stops the pod lifting.
@@tay999uk I just think the magnets are a little too powerful. The concept is great and visually they look awesome. In order to progress I'm sure ND would welcome the honest feedback. Wasnt a dig at all
@@lewistreloar5902 they are powerful and to be honest when I first used them I had the same issue as in lifting the whole pod, but once i realized that lifting the rod thin end up 1st, the magnet just lets go and have had no issues since. I almost lost a rod once and now with these they feel well secure. Good luck with whatever method you use mate :)
I just did 😢
PANTS
I had these for less than a week, rod got pulled into the lake on a fierce take never to be seen again. Sent them back the following day and new direction pointed the blame at me and not their own product, so I'm down a rod and reel 👍
@Adz maybe so but you only need to look at their Amazon reviews to see this has happened before and new direction said this was the first theyd heard of it after pointing them to the reviews
Did you jump into the water and look for it on the bottom? If its not all to deep, the rod will only be a few feet away. Give it a try. I am pretty sure you will find it.
@@v.ishengel649 this happened about 6 months ago and was in a 40ft deep old quarry so highly unlikely. Luckily the rod and reel didn't break the bank
@@batmanspen ah ok. Unlucky mate. Catch some good ones 🍻🎣
@@batmanspen how is that NDs fault.
Their magnetic connectors are good, but the back rests are rubbish, no good unless the pod is fixed down, better off with the jag lockdowns .
I've never had any issue with them on my pod
seems i dont get paid to lie ill tell the truth.. nearly lost my rod multiple times.. if you like your rod tips up OR down the magnets even weaker.. thank me later (i just went got the nash lock downs) amazing rests
Not using the bobbins anymore. Absolutely crud.
Now thats too far 🤣🤣 if the fish is dragging everything you just need a bank stick and a bungie cable, sorted, plus there really ugly aswell
Pointless product really as bank bugs do the same thing but with no chance the rod can be pulled forward off the rest. They don't look as good either, who wants that thing hanging off the rod.
Not for me that tbf
Total waste of time.
What a terrible product.
Clearly made by someone who was borred and wanted to invent some useless tackle.
Shame they don’t do silver
one thing ,your alarms will not go back in your alarm case .
