  • In this carp fishing unboxing video, CARPology's Joe Wooltorton gets a first look at New Direction's very neat Magnetic Butt Rests and Front Quick-Release Plates; the latter allows for instant attachment and removal of your alarms, whilst the butt rests, with their rock-solid magnetic grip, mean you'll never have your carp fishing rod pulled in!

    NEW? Had them for months now and can confirm they are both excellent. Can set the pod up in no time for a day session and get fishing much quicker! Hold is very strong so no need to worry about losing a rod. Great items.

    I've got both, the magnets are really strong. Helps to fix pod down or you end picking pod up with rod. Love them.

    I use the Bank Bug back rod rests. They are more secure than these, do not pull your pod or rod rests out when picking up the rod and they swivel so your rod does not have to be around 90° to the rod rest to work. Buy some extra rod pegs and you can use them with all of your rods. I have been using them for several years with no issues.
    The magnets on the alarms looks interesting. It would be good to get some feedback from anglers who use them. They look better than a lot of alternatives out there although the Korum adapter looks like it would be very good.

    I wonder if they would affect the operation of roller buzzers, Attx, nevilles etc?

  • @cbing4036

    These are great but you cannot use them on a rod pod in my opinion as it lifts the pod into the air. Great for bank sticks and buzz bars

    The best of this kind of butt rest by far, is the prologic clinch snag 😉

    Look great if using bank sticks or goalposts stuck in the ground. Can see problems lifting off if using a pod.

    Had them for 3 years. Very convenient, but a mid double carp in the margins will have the back of your rod off in seconds and in the water in a minute. Definitely NOT, for use overnight with a receiver.

    Used these for first time at the weekend had 2 takes and both pulled the rod off the rear rest thankfully had snag ears on so didn’t lose the rod but was expecting these to be stronger. I had my bait runner set pretty loose and the bait was probably at 45 degrees from the rod tip and 70-80 yards out. Might work better if your fishing straight out in front but not impressed.

    i got some the other week, they are very strong magnets, you need a pod that sticks in the ground as i was lifting rods to play a fish an i kept lifting my pod off the floor, quite annoying but they are strong magnets an your rods are always straight an level when sitting on thepod

    Sad to see a respected carp fishing magazine promoting Amazon. What about your local tackle shop? Support your local stores or they won't be around much longer (because nothing beats looking around all the little bits and bobs and smelling the sweet sweet bait aroma!)

    • @tay999uk

      Lift your rod at an angle, that stops the pod lifting.

      @@tay999uk I just think the magnets are a little too powerful. The concept is great and visually they look awesome. In order to progress I'm sure ND would welcome the honest feedback. Wasnt a dig at all

      @tay999uk 3 года назад +1

      @@lewistreloar5902 they are powerful and to be honest when I first used them I had the same issue as in lifting the whole pod, but once i realized that lifting the rod thin end up 1st, the magnet just lets go and have had no issues since. I almost lost a rod once and now with these they feel well secure. Good luck with whatever method you use mate :)

    I had these for less than a week, rod got pulled into the lake on a fierce take never to be seen again. Sent them back the following day and new direction pointed the blame at me and not their own product, so I'm down a rod and reel 👍

    • @batmanspen
      @batmanspen 3 года назад

      @Adz maybe so but you only need to look at their Amazon reviews to see this has happened before and new direction said this was the first theyd heard of it after pointing them to the reviews

    Pointless product really as bank bugs do the same thing but with no chance the rod can be pulled forward off the rest. They don't look as good either, who wants that thing hanging off the rod.
