Just a nudge to get that pressure gauge video out there! Your videos should be viral, tens of thousands of people are youtubing the ROK and this is some of the most interesting and helpful footage I've seen
imo ROK GC biggest flaw is the bayonet/ competition screen. it didn't hold the portafilter well enough and there will be leak/ water spray around bayonet if you always do 9 bar+ ( i'm using rok gc with mano plunger and upgrade the bayonet ring with brass). i've found the solution to reduce the chance of water leak is to make sure the silicon and bayonet to really dry and it will hold the portafilter more firmly. so with this in mind, i never do the blank shot anymore because it will wet the bayonet and the silicon part of screen. so my way of doing the pre heat is, you boiled a water, put the portafilter into a cup and filled it, then you filled the upper chamber with the same boiled hot water, and also the cup for the coffee. next you grind the beans, at the same time boiled another hot water. dry your portafilter and quickly prepare the coffee (to shorten the time needed to do this and more consistent result, im using WDT, leveler, and leveled tamp, maybe around 20 seconds). after that, empty the water from the upper chamber by turning the rok over. then pull your shot. with this routine i considered my shot is always consistent with nice temperature 🙏🏻
Hey sir, thanks a lot! I've been in a hate/love relationship with my rok in the past 10 years, and those tips will add up to the mods to keep enjoying it !
I have two portafilter. one i heat in a cup and prep with the coffee. the other i have in the Rok and put two shots of boiling water through just before i put in the coffee portafilter. I'm starting to get good results
Hey Brian, honestly I have been struggling to find any resources on how to do it. I thought about just strapping a pressure gauge on top and running a tube down to the bottom of the piston and insulating it somehow but i dunno. I would really appreciate it if ever found the time to share your insights on the pressure gauge mod. Good work!
I don't get it... why would you wait 2 minutes (your words) after you put water into the chamber??? You put water as a last thing (after you prepared coffee) than arms up, then down - and than there is no need to do all that mess that you did... looks like a solution to a problem you created. It takes 3seconds max, so there is almost no temp loss...
I had experimented with this too pretty extensively and unfortunately the problem is it doesn't effectively heat the interior walls of the cylinder. That's not to say it doesn't work at all but heating it with water is much more effective. I told my Bellman steamer a while ago and I do regret it. Hold on to yours, they will be worth something someday.
@@brianharder16 Awesome! I think the holes as you mention and the bellman will allow for super light roasts. Especially now with the new showerscreen and pro pressure guage mods you can buy! My biggest challenge now is how fast can I make espressos. The most I've made in an hour was 30. Can you do more than 1 per 2 minutes?

Great stuff. Please make a video on how you installed your pressure gauge. Thanks a lot!
seriously! I wanna see that

Nice one man. I appreciate your mrthods.
I just preheat the portafilter in boiling water... I'm pulling very good shots with this one adjustment to the process
This is awesome ROK should hire you
Simpler to put a silicone cap on the portafilter and lift the arms to heat up the whole thing? Remove the cap and water flows out

Is that just drilled or is that a 3d printed part?
So on the pressure gauge, you just did drilled hole to the chamber, tapped it and installed a screw type gauge?
hi, can you share how did u install pressure gauge ?
Can you talk about how you installed that pressure gauge on the Rok?
I plan on posting a video on that soon. If you are mechanically inclined it's not too difficult. I just need to find the time to shoot the video.
Sounds great!
@@brianharder16 looking forward to that video, I’d also be interested! Thanks for the insight

waiting for this video as well. my ROK has been sitting on a shelf since I got my Flair58 this would allow me to use it again happily
How did u put that manometer there? Make a tutorial please

Is that a temp measure or a pressure gauge?
It is a pressure gauge. Ideally I would like it to be a dual temperature and pressure gauge but unfortunately I never found one small enough.
@@brianharder16 how did you place it there? Can you make a video please about the gauge?
I figured out an additional stage! You can steam the brew chamber with a Bellman steamer!! 🧖🏻♂️🧖🏻♂️🧖🏻♂️🚂🚂🚂🔥🔥🔥
