Received this one for Christmas when I was 9 years old. Was central to my games, and often combined it with a Miconauts playset called Monorail City.
This just has so much going for it, sturdy when it's constructed, multiple pay areas and really good art. Always wished that I had more troopers to populate it with. Sadly, my set is long gone, but not the memories of enjoying it so much.
So rad that you had this as a kid. I have heard a lot of collectors say they would be pleased if Hasbro created a set or a mod to this. What do you think?
@@thepadawancollectorofficial I think it'd be a good idea. Wouldn't take away the value from the original, but it lets people have a set in their collection for display.
For a cardboard playset, it is an incredible toy. It was genius to make the quadrants so you can re-enact scenes from the movie. And the engineering is impressive, the trash compactor and the walkway and all the details would have made playing with this thing a ton of fun. Love this video. Thanks for all your hard work.
I agree with your assessment Easy! And thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :). I’m glad you enjoyed the video
Loved mine, bring back happy memories
I don't think Palitoy realised how good it was and made very few. Yes cost might have been a factor I suppose, but the Death Star has much more playability than any other toy in the line and that includes the Falcon etc..
English kid here , aged 7 in 1980. Never saw this but heard rumours of its existence back in the day...
I didn’t know this existed until a year ago! I hope you can get one sometime soon :)
English kid here; younger than you. I was heavily into Star Wars but never saw this set in a shop or heard anyone talk about it - until I guy on my street decided he'd outgrown Star Wars and sold me this and a mini-sized die-cast Star Destroyer (with opening belly hatch and Tantive IV) for £5.
Unfortunately, being cardboard, it didn't survive a few years in the loft as did the plastic toys. Oops.
English kid here from the 80s...It existed. I saw it for real, my best friend had it and claimed his dad got it in Hong Kong on a work trip. Never saw it for sale in the UK
Another English Kid here🤣 yes never saw this in the wild although it was on the back of the 20 back cards , I was a bit to young in 1979. I did get it about 20 years ago and it's my center piece in my collection along with my 12 backs.
Yep another English kid here who hit perfect age for Star Wars toys in the 80s, I only found out about this watching Leicester vintage toy shop on RUclips, before that I had never seen it on the shelves, if I had of done I would’ve definitely crazed my parents for it
After seeing this, i thinks this is way better then Kenner's version and thats coming from a Kenner collector!
Hey Bluckers! Yes doing my ranking video with these is going to be hard!
That bought back some wonderful childhood memories. Definitely one of my favourite toys.
I wish I would have had a chance to get that as a kid
how??
that wasn't available in the us.
I had one of those!!!....It was my absolute favorite! As a 12year old, it spurred my model making, and I spent many, many hours adding on halls and lifts and slides.
Thank you for rekindling my fond memories of this playset!
Hey CeeJay! That’s amazing that you added on to it! Do you still have the one you modified? That would be awesome to see 🙌🏼
@@thepadawancollectorofficial Sadly, No....To be honest, the additions were probably awful, but as 12 year old, they only added to the awesomeness of that Death Star. Best Christmas present ever!!
My worst moment as a Star Wars fan? My cousin decided to put Princess Leia's hands into a pencil sharpener. She was NEVER allowed to touch my figures after that. I've never let her forget either!
I used to own this death star . In the early 1980s, I decided that I didn’t want it anymore. I put it in my back garden and set fire to it imagining it was the rebels blowing up the death star. That is the biggest regret of my life next to selling every single one of my original Star Wars figures for less than £20, so it’s great to see this video showing lots of toys that I used to own thank you for the memories
Dont feel to bad bro .
My brother buried 4 original jawas with ther vinyl capes in are backyard .... he has regrets too .....
If we only knew all toys would suck after 1989 .......
You are welcome Gedruk! And thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 🙌🏼
I threw my Millennium Falcon thru my Death Star (US version) blowing it up. Dumb me..
My second favourite Star Wars toy as a boy (behind only the AT AT). I got it for Christmas in 1979, went to church in the morning and one of my brothers had put it together for me by the time we got back. Many happy hours playing with it. And surprisingly durable for cardboard; it lasted longer than many of my plastic toys. I still have the Action Force version Palitoy put out a few years later.
That is such a cool story! Thanks for watching moblocke 🙌🏼
I had this set as a kid. Was the Palitoy version, not the Tolstoy’s one (I’m in Australia). Was my most-used toy from that collection, and I had quite a collection
Had a Toltoys (might also have been Palitoy) X-wing, without lights and sounds. This was easily fixed with a trip to the local Tandy (an electronics store, not around these days) for a light, motor, push button switch, and battery holder. Disassembled the ship, drilled out the nose where the light went, and fitted it. Cut out a piece in the base, for the battery pack, and drilled out the top, to fit the push button. Cut the removed piece in two, and fitted them back in place, so they could swing open, like saloon doors, attaching them with some white electrical tape. Worked like a charm. Not too shabby for a fourteen yo, with no electrical experience… :)
Cheers,
You were a toy guru back then! Are you an engineer now????? Thanks for the awesome comment Wolf!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial “retired” now. I amassed an eclectic set of skills over my career. Am a Jack-of-all-trades, and master of none, unfortunately… :).
I had the Kenner Death Star…
Loved it..
I had lots of figures play sets… ships… had them for years . Loved pulling them out from time to time…and reminiscing…eventually selling it all….regret doing that…😢
May the force be with..all of you… always ❤😊
Thanks for watching Ken! May the force be with you!
Glad you are happy with everything and thanks for the shoutout. By far the nicest playset out there. Appreciate the video and seeing this playset come to life bc I was too scared myself to do it lol
Thanks for the excellent piece and for wrapping it as though it was an Egyptian mummy 😜. Always a pleasure doing business with you guys.
Hello from Australia! I still have my original Toltoys death star and for reference it is exactly the same as the Palitoy except for the logo on the box and base.
That’s awesome that you still have the original one from your childhood! What a treasure 🙌🏼
Oh you lucky, LUCKY man! Beautiful piece of history TPC, congrats on the addition. And what a price! I AM one of those 'lucky' Canadians but sadly never owned either version as a kid, but I've since picked up a complete Kenner death Star playset for my collection. What a Grail, thanks for the amazing show and tell!
Thanks Jacob! That’s awesome that you were able to pick up the Kenner Death Star Space Station! Excellent Playset! 🙌🏼
My favourite Star Wars toy bar none. A quite brilliant playset. I had one as a child here in the UK, and I loved it then as I love it now (not that I still have my childhood one, but I did buy a replacement when I got back into collecting vintage back in the 90's). Congratulations on a great video and on picking up one of these wonderful toys.
Thanks Connie! That’s awesome that you had one as a kid, AND you bought one in the 90s for probably a great price
Got this for my birthday in 1979? Amazing how much fun you got out of what was just some sturdy bits of cardboard and some plastic.
This is so true Simon, when we were kids our imagination filled in the rest :). Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment
I had the Palatoy Death Star and it was my pride and joy… until my brother fell on top of it… 😢 no amount of cello tape could put it back together. It limped on bravely until I moved out so with a heavy heart , I took a leaf out of Luke’s book and gave it a Viking funeral 😔🇬🇧
Awwww I’m sorry about your Palitoy Death Star! If I was your brother I would buy you one as an adult 😎
Wow! We had that in Canada. My brother and I got that for Christmas one year and loved it!! We played with it over and over. It was great! Much better than the Kenner version.
That’s so rad you had this as a kid! I wish I had that experience
This is the greatest ever toy I had as a child. Well my big brother had it and he gave it to me.
You have the coolest big brother! Thanks for the comment Nicholas 🙌🏼
Great vid. Loved this playset when i was a kid. So many hours of fun, and still provides some of my earliest memories. No, i didnt look after it.. it got destroyed more times than a James Bond set. Sold it for almost nothing when i grew out of it. We all have regrets in life.
Hey Zero! But at least the toy was meant for playing and you did just that :). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Thanks for another great episode, Joey. I've been waiting for this one!! I wasn't aware of the Palitoy Death Star playset as a 10 year old back in 1978 BUT now this 55 year old collector HAS to get one!!
Hey Dan! Enjoy the hunt! For me that was a fun ride :)
Another great video Joey! We didn't have many playsets back home in France but this one ! I can't tell how many times I blew up my Palitoy Death Star, one the toy I played the most with as a kid ! It was Palitoy Packaging designer David Barnacle's son on the main packaging picture who played with the Death Star and I remember having 10 plastic bases with the Meccano packaging instead of six with the Palitoy packaging (did Meccano was more generous or was it an accident ? that I don't know) The top shield see thru cover used to be crystal clear but faded out to an orange yellow color true times like action figures blister cards and I used to park my Tie Fighter in the docking bay or Imperial Troop Transport. What a fun time it was!
Awesome memories of a great toy! I wish I had this one as a kid but I’m glad you explained how it felt to have one :)
@@thepadawancollectorofficial You're very welcome Joey. the funny thing is when I started my collection as grow up in early 90's I have one target and it was the Kenner Death Star because I really wanted to see that playset who was so different compare to the Palitoy one. When I see you discover the Palitoy Death Star you remember me opening my Kenner one in 1992! I'm really happy for you that you have both now.
I would have loved to have had that as a kid. Super cool.
I agree!
Hello my friend. I bought one of these off eBay a few months ago, and I'm having a little trouble setting it up, specifically the second level floors. Do the tabs on the horizontal floors mount thru the same slot on the vertical walls from both sides? Like one tab on top of the other thru the same slot? It seems like I can only get one side or the other thru the slot and not both.
Aww man I see what you means. Yes this was confusing for me too. If you want I can post a video just showing this move and do it a couple of times. Lmk
@@thepadawancollectorofficial I'd really appreciate that, as the second level floors are sitting somewhat lopsided, as I can only get one tab from the floors into one of the mounting holes in the walls, from only one side. Yes, it is a replica, not the official Palitoy version, but I'm guessing they both assemble the same way.
I love this Palitoy Death Star. I've had my complete one since 1991.
That’s awesome Richard! I would probably faint if I found out how much you paid for it
@@thepadawancollectorofficial I acquired it from UK dealer the late Jim Stevenson, as a trade of vintage items I had. I didn't have to pay for it! He was the one who told me about it so I learned of its existence relatively late in my collecting. I was a Kenner collector since 1978.
This is an absolute beautiful piece. Had two of them in my life time, sold them both 10 years ago for a fraction of what it is worth now! One of my biggest regrets. Fantastic video with great footage.
Well if you figure inflation you probably sold it for a fair price in todays standards. Thanks for watching Paul and I’m glad you enjoyed the video
It’s a beauty to display!
I agree!
That’s one of the best play sets ,possibly better than the Kenner one because of the art of it and playability .great video, I was waiting for this one.
Thanks MRK, yes I have to agree that on a lot of areas, this Playset is better
Thank you. The best video ever on (in my opinion) the greatest ever Vintage Star Wars playset! I’m in Australia and have the Toltoys version.
Can I please ask, do Rogue Five Toys have a website, or are they only on Facebook?
I’m glad you enjoyed the episode! They have a website as well, so check it out :)
Another of those “lucky Canadians” here, and I actually owned this amazing playset via Sears’ Christmas Wish Book. It even came with two Stormtroopers. Got countless joyous hours of play out of it. It was ingeniously designed, but being made out of cardboard meant it didn’t survive more than a few years. My best friend at the time was also a huge Star Wars fan, and we tended to collect complementary playsets and vehicles. I had the Palitoy Death Star and he had the Kenner version, I had the AT-ST and he had the AT-AT, etc. I always envied his AT-AT, but even he admits that my Death Star was cooler. Lol.
You lucky Canadian 😎.
I actually won one of these (Palitoy) back in 1977/78 (here in Australia)...I was 7 years old and won it on a TV contest at the time. My name was read out on tv and I was so excited. We drove out to the tv studio to pick it up :) I played with it for hours and hours......sadly, I have no idea what happened to it, lost in time....was so long ago. It'd be worth thousands today (especially unpacked!)
Hey Fabian! Wow what a thing to win when you are a kid, especially to have your name announced on TV!!! You must have been in heaven driving to the studio and getting it 🙌🏼
I loved this as a kid. I had the Toltoys version. I spent hours playing with this. I’ve still got it in a cupboard somewhere.
Hey Tom! That’s rad that you had this as a kid!
Wow!!! I've been waiting for this episode in your run, and it did not disappoint. This is one of those "grail" playsets for me. It's one I rarely see, let alone see complete and/or for a reasonable price.
I think you secured a true gem. I know you'll be keeping yours in the box, in the acrylic case - but have you seen the amazing acrylic dome that they have so you can display this all set up? It looks amazing - I know I'd be tempted to get that so I could display it without worry.
I absolutely love this variation & feel it has even more play value than the Kenner version (despite not having a dianoga).
I'm so stoked for you that you were able to get this beauty my friend. A+ buddy. Great snag - I'm definitely envious. 🥰
Can't wait for the next installment in the series!!!
Thank you so much Mopar! Im really honored that you enjoyed this video :) I did know about that acrylic and once I get my collection room remodeled, I do want to display some items assembled and I will be looking at acrylics for those displays! I just want to have more of my collection done so I can do custom displays for some of those items!!!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial That will be badass. Can't wait to see what you do & how it will all be displayed.
I had both ! Living in the UK, I had the Palitoy version first, but remember at the time that it felt cheap and a bit quaint. When we took a family holiday to California in 1979, I saw the US version, and being a rather spoilt 9 or 10 year, I old probably made my parents' holiday hell until they bought it for me - although the fact that I ended up in emergency after falling off a back-peddle-braking BMX during the stay, may also have had something to do with it ! I clearly recall waiting in the bagage hall on our return to Heathrow and seeing the box arrive on the carousel with our cases. It felt far more solid and was more impressive to look at than Palitoy's, plus nobody else had it. So it took pride of place in my collection and made a lot of my friends very jealous…
Wow what a story and connection you have with it Terence! I think it’s amazing that you were able to have it as a kid, that to me is special. Thanks for the excellent comment and for taking the time to watch this video
I had one of these!!
One of the best toys I ever had!
I agree ☝️
@thepadawancollectorofficial considering it was made of cardboard, it was tough!! And you were given some clear plastic discs that fitted onto the holes on the figures' feet.
I can't ever remember seeing these stands for sale anywhere at the time.
Couldn't understand the purpose of the gun tower at the time! Now it makes perfect sense!
Did you collect 3 cut-out name badges from the packaging of the figures and send them off to get a Boba Fett figure?
I had the Kenner version and would have prefered the Palitoy one. It just has more playability.
Both are fun but yes I agree that the Palitoy one is laid out better
Wow, great details on this playset🤩 love what you did with Han where he kicks Chewie down the trash compactor😂
Thanks LizzMartyJo! Haha yea I’ve always wanted to do that with this toy 😂🙌🏼
This was my favourite toy of all when I was a kid.
Hey Duke! That’s rad that you had this as a kid 🙌🏼
This is the coolest vintage playset for sure imo ❤
I agree 🙌🏼
I got that for Christmas in 1980. Lord knows what happened to it but I spent many happy hours playing with that.
That’s rad that you got to own one as a kid 🙌🏼
Hi Joey. Obviously I love all the videos. I have a few questions if you dont mind? I've seen your videos and you talked about the acrylic cases. Are they UV resistant or is it's the best way to tisplay and or just to keep the boxes incontact? Let me know if you can. I appreciate you and all you do!!! Keep them coming bro°
Hey Andy! Yes they are UV resistant and they will help your cardboard art from fading. That being said, it’s always good to keep them out of direct or indirect sunlight anyway.
Before i even watch this i just want to say, Yes, yes it is. My friend had one when they came out and we spent so much time with it.
having seen the kenner one on the internets im glad palitoy made our version in the uk
I have to agree with you. They are both classics, but thinking as a kid, I would have liked the Palitoy version better
Clever design, beautiful and simple. A play set for unlimited hours of fun !
Wishing one day I could get one of these playsets. In my opinion after the Millenium Falcon this is one of the best SW play sets.
That’s excellent that you consider the Falcon as a Playset. So do I. So much more than just a ship
@@thepadawancollectorofficial One can say it is just a ship but one has to remember that in the eyes of the 80s kids .. that was one of the best SW play sets ever!! Play inside the ship for hours and then take off with it for new adventures!
what I like is the rooms and tunnels break up the playing area, using your imagunation to do a story to interact and use the whole display. Kenner version feel like you need different segements (which would be cool if they conected in number of ways), or a few of the same to give a star base feel
I agree! Great comment, Myke! Thanks for watching
This was one of the original Star Wars toys I missed when I was a kid, is used to retail for £10 when new here in the UK (I was 7 years old at the time). I finally got a good used boxed example off ebay in 2003 for £144, which I thought was expensive but looking at costs now I think it was a bargain. So pleased I finally got my hands on one, was definitely something from my childhood I couldn't ignore. Really enjoyed your video.
Wow you got a great deal on yours even back in the day! Great score! Thanks for watching Nelly and thanks for leaving an awesome comment
I got one of these for my tenth birthday. My best friend had just got the standard TIE fighter for Christmas, and I had got Vaders TIE and we both had X-Wings.
What we did to those toys would probably give modern collectors the absolute shits. But to say that we "Modded them" would be an understatement. We took cannons and tank guns from Airfix WWII model kits and glued them to the XWings, used Humbrol model paints to give them unique markings and put fins on the TIE's from Angel Interceptor model kits. We used the Death Star as a template for how to construct hard-card models and built a big base, and since we were getting into D&D at the same time we created combat rules and used the figures as new characters and invited kids round to battle our collections against theirs using the combat rules we'd written and using the Polyhedral dice from the D&D box sets.
For the following summer the landing at the top of the stairs in my house had more of a queue of kids wanting to play than the Space Invaders and Asteroid machines in the local cafe.
Hey Andrew! Wow your toys were thorough enjoyed, as they should be!
A friend of mine had this, a fantastic playset!
I agree, it IS fantastic! 🙌🏼
Great content mate! I literally just unboxed the trash compactor on my channel so it was great to see its cardboard cousin explained by a legend!
I’ll have to check out your video 🙌🏼
I literally saw this in a shop window once when I was maybe 4. It was late at night in Melbourne and the store was closed.
I never saw it again!
I had the Droid factory, although I lost all the Droid pieces very early on - had the base for years though.
That’s rad you had the droid factory, I would have loved to have had it when I was a kid :)
I'm really really sorry but I remember having this in the day and the memories just made me realize something.
We had it damned good back then. (sips coffee, smiling)
Haha indeed we did! Thanks for the awesome comment Billy 🙌🏼
I think I mentioned this on FB, but this episode is one of your best ever, and that's saying a lot 🤗
Wow thanks man! I had a lot of fun doing it and that means a lot coming from you :).
What an awesome play set! Enough said 😂
Haha well said my friend :). Can’t wait to set up the Jawa Playset!
Excellent video. That was very complex to put together and awesome, at first i thought the price was a rip back when it was released for basically a cardboard playset but seeing it like this with all the art and detail, its really cool and worth it and even the price you got it for in that condition was great.
Thanks Lee! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
Always knew this playset was good. But not this good! Pure genius!
It’s really one of my favorite items in my collection
I can't believe I used to have this as a kid I loved it the trash shoot was so fun, I wish I could remember what happened with it but no doubt I probably played with it so much it was smashed to bits it was made of cardboard after all, great memories though 😊
Hey Stephen! The toy served its purpose and was thoroughly enjoyed!!!
Another fantastic review Joey! Thank you so much for putting this together. And well done on the purchase!!! What an awesome centerpiece for the collection. I’m very lucky to still have my (New Zealand) Toltoys Death Star from way back in 1985. My Mum brought it for me at a garage sale (for a very cheap price). It’s the pride of my collection now. Did you know that GW Acrylics are going to be making a dome display case specifically for this Death Star?
Hey Logan! That’s awesome you still have the very one your mom got you! That is special! No I didn’t know that GW is making an acrylic for the dome but I do now! Thanks for the info! Now I can display it set up :)
I contacted Iain’s Displays last week and he said they should be available in the US for sale around April/May next year….pretty cool!
Ah Man.I had this when i was a kid.I have no idea what happened to it.Thanks for the Video Mate.
Hey John! That’s rad you had this as a kid 🙌🏼
What a great fun an informative video!
Thank you so much man! The Canadian one one you showed me has a crystal clear turret cover!!!
Growing up in Australia this was the version I had but from Toltoys.
However my parents always got the Seats catalogue and I so wanted the Kenner Death Star.
I would say value for money and toy design this was the superior version and really appreciated the printed Imperials on the panels as it gave life to a somewhat empty playset because of the lack of figures I had.
That’s awesome that you had the original one!
Great job on getting one of those 👍I never had one. Thought it was always really cool looking. The round concept would be like putting together a bunch of Kenner Death Stars in a circle😂Palitoy version would be cheaper to do.
Hahaha that’s a good way of thinking of it Scott!
Man! This must be the rarest Star Wars toy item EVER - especially in mint condition! I think this is actually more fun and greater play value than the Kenner version!
I have to agree :)
What about the Kenner Early Bird figures set only available by buying the cardboard display set and sending in a offer blank? It's the only OG Star Wars thing I have, and really don't know what its worth now...
That’s some great looking art..
It is art, isn’t it :). Thanks for watching
Looks like it would be so fragile, even in the 80's. It sure is great looking though. Imagine a plywood or at least pegboard material version of this. If I was better at woodworking, I would make one. The images on these cardboard pieces are great looking and the design is quite clever.
Great job showing us all about it. The best video about this playset I've seen.
Thanks John I’m really glad you enjoyed this video! It was so much fun to research and make this one :)
I bet so! I love researching and deep diving into stuff like this. @@thepadawancollectorofficial
Didn't like this set as a kid but now it looks iconic !!!
I agree :)

I wasn't aware of the Palitoy stuff. Very cool!
I’m glad you enjoyed it Windmark!
Such a beauty Im Canadian we had some of those here I saw one once in an expo we did a friend of mine had one
Made my collection by going to flea markets and garage sales but I never found one

Absolutely beautiful man! Nice pick up. I had the American Kenner Death Star but not the Palitoy one. Starting to grow on me!
Hey Bill! This has definitely grown on me and is the crown jewel of my Playset run thus far :)
I had the Kenner version. Loved it.
Both are fantastic 🙌🏼
I had that version
Loved it
It’s one of my favorites
I wanted this so badly. Though I only knew of it’s existence in mid 80’s.
We’re you able to get one?
@@thepadawancollectorofficial there was toy fair at my school, it was going for 50p!! Sadly some other kid got there first😢
Yep, I has one of those - Sadly it did not survive to adulthood as I had to put it away every time I finished playing with it as a kid and that was just too hard on it... Which is something, I like to remind my mum of when I tell her how much it is worth now.
Hey Gary!! Haha well I hope your mom can laugh about it. At least you had one and it got well played with as toys should :)
Great video as always Joey.
Thanks for watching Jart!
The mirror pieces are stickers that came with it. The instructions on the back explain where to put them on
1980 was my best Festivus, it was pretty much a Star Wars theme for me, the Falcon, Death Star, AT-AT, regular TIE & Vader TIE, X-Wing I called Rudy (with the light-up nose), a Taun-Taun, A-Wing and over 50 Empire action figures, Sears had multi-pack sets of 7 random figures, one pack had all 4 bounty hunters, there were a few doubles but you could trade your friends for more Stormtroopers, you could never have enough Stormtroopers when you always played against your friends as The Empire. My Vader had Twiki the Butlerbot and Daggit the Friendly Attack Dogbot as his besties.
Hold up, I didn't get an A-Wing that Festivus, it was a Snowspeeder.
Wow you had a great Festivus that year! 🙌🏼
cool playset, Joey. i never had this one cause my mom said it would get wrecked too easily cause of it being mostly cardboard. lol.
That sounds exactly like something my parents would have said lol
In Canada I had this and it was great it lasted surprisingly long .
I saw the Canadian box and it came with a stormtrooper. You lucky Canadians!
The retro collection needs to reissue this
I have heard a lot of collectors asking for that. Do u think it will happen?
Yup! Algorithms nailed this one! Had this when I was a kid here in Australia!
Brought the memories back
Thanks Shane! I agree it’s a rad toy and I wish I had this when I was a kid. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙌🏼
@@thepadawancollectorofficial No worries! I’m not a “Flat out” Star Wars nerd, however, I was 6 years old when I watched it at the cinemas in’77 (or ‘ 78) when it came out in Australia! It blew my fuckin’ mind!

Great episode... My mate had one but apart from that I never came across another one in the UK. Plus I always wondered why my xwing never had a red light on the nose... Now I know 👍
Thanks for watching Chisel! And I hope you can pick up one someday 🙌🏼
Nice one Joey! You're lucky to have your hands on one of those, not a cheap playset to buy even in the UK!
I gotta say I had many friends who all had star wars figures as a kid and I don't ever remember seeing anyone with one of these at the time. I guess our parents all bought us Falcons and AT-AT's for Christmas so maybe not so many of these sold hence the scarcity and price of them today! I love it though, glad didn't have one as a kid I woulda trashed it 😂
Omg I would have trashed it too lol. I’m surprised there are pristine versions of this available!
Great set, but sad to see them illegally use Post Office supplies to ship it. That's part of why we pay so much for shipping these days. Big No-No, and a violation of federal law.
I'm betting those were used postal packaging...
Sellers on eBay use those, Amazon boxes, used empty master cartons for other products and anything else they can mash into the box.
These were used post office boxes, so no animals, insects, or US postal government laws were harmed during the making of this show. That is all, now back to our Saturday morning cartoons.
be nice and photocopy these so we can make our own eh
I will do that and put on the Padawan Academy on Facebook

Hi Joey, the death star playset is verry cool !
I agree :). Thanks for watching!
Great video and some excellent footage, I'm please us in the UK got our own DS👍
Thanks Kings! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I had this as a kid yes it was cardboard but to me it was the death star and i loved it and played with it till it fell apart ❤
Hey Fez! Then you did what the toy was intended for, to be PLAYED with! 🙌🏼
I’ve seen Lego Mocs of this set, before I even knew about it.
Now I have to look up the Lego version of this, that sounds awesome! Thanks for watching George 🙌🏼
I remember mine well. I got it in New Zealand. Not much cool stuff made it down there in the 80s and I didn't have many toys. So when I got this it was a BIG deal.
Hey Monkey! That’s rad you had one when you were a kid 🙌🏼
Hey….thanks for clearing up a mystery of 45 years. I remember on the first U.K. run of the classic 8 figures (silver and black card backing), they advertised the X-wing fighter on the back.
My older brother was very despondent that it was clearly advertised as ‘with laser light and sound’ - especially when he got it that Christmas and it did not. It also looked pretty stupid with the box showing Luke Skywalker inside in Tattoine gear, as X-wing fighter pilot had not been released yet.
I think I did better. I got Micronauts Microtron which dumped all over his present.
Hey Zacetto! I’m glad I could clear that up 😎. Thanks for watching and for leaving such an awesome comment 🙌🏼
Thank you for a blinding vid. The cheapest, I saw the original figures for, upon first release was 60p. I do not know how much that would translate to US dollars for the time.
It has always freaked me out that episode IV was largely filmed in Elstree, less than half an hour’s drive from where I grew up in London.
I’ve only seen this one time, and that was not a toy museum in Austin. Consider yourself very lucky to get one. I’d be happy forever just to get a re-creation.
Yes I have been looking for this for a long time and when I saw this one I had to get it.
My brother had one for Christmas!
Excellent! Does he still have it?
Great Show J. I really wish I'd been smart enough to get me a Palitoy Death Star in the 90s. The cost today is prohibitive.
I agree with you that the cost is massive. I do know of people who sell exact kit replicas to make this!!
I have this too its just epic .. it was re used also for actionforce .. and action man
I’ve never seen the action man version in person. I would love to at least see it one day!
Oh man my brother and i both had one of these in Australia. The cardboard held up pretty well. it got pretty ratty at the edges and corners. the most annoying part was the guns from the turret would sometimes pop out. it was pretty cool to play with.
Hey Filthy! I agree the cardboard has help up amazingly thru all these years. Do you still have yours? Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
Lets Go!
Thanks alot for going over this.
I really enjoyed it. :)
I don't think this is crap by any means, but I think the color scheme and the ever-present Imperial personnel are a little distracting.
You can imagine Imperial personnel but can't UNimagine the Imperial personnel.
It's a lot like a battle damage stickers on the TIE fighter and X-Wing.
"So these ships are ALWAYS damaged?" :) haha
When it comes to the ever-present Imperial personnel, the Bespin freezing chamber playset and the "Battle Station" backdrop are guilty of this, too. :)
The back of the box is absolutely beautiful and I would actually like to have both Death Star playsets along with the "Battle Station" backdrop to make it one full Death Star experience. :)
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching and for leaving such an awesome comment. I always love reading what your thoughts are on these vintage pieces.

Thanks for saying. :)
Thanks doing these videos
I really find value in the info you bring to this line of figures. :)
This would be a no brainer rerelease for Hasbro.
I have heard so many other collectors ask for this as well
@@thepadawancollectorofficial Are there Repos of it ?Wouldn’t seem that hard to do.
I had this. I guess I was very lucky, as I've never met anyone else who had it and only a very few Star Wars diehards have even heard of it.
Unfortunately it got mouldy after spending a few years in the attic when I was older and 'past' Star Wars.
That’s rad you got to have this as a kid!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial An older boy on my street sold it to me (to my mum really) for £5, along with the die-cast miniature Star Destroyer, with sliding belly hatch and tiny Tantive IV.
Receiving it used I never knew if it was complete until the algorithm threw up this video - it was.
It was cool to have it as a kid, although aside from putting figures into the trash compactor chute it didn't get used much. It was so rare and unusual that it was more a display model. Visiting friends would just stare at it.
This must have been about 1980 - a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away!
Cheers.
I love the kenner play set best. Still have one
Hey Lou! Yes that one is awesome! Both are iconic 🙌🏼
