  • This is the spoken and visual instruction for needle tatting my simple flower pendant. This is the same pendant as my first video only with sound and is a beginner project. The full instructions for the pendant can be found on Instructables titled Learn Needle Tatting with my Flower Pendant or search for tutorials by TotusMel.
*Please note, this video was made and uploaded years ago and I am fully aware that I mispronounce the word 'picot' having learned without a teacher. I have no plans to remake the video with the correct pronunciation. My apologies for the annoyance.

I've tried tatting a couple of times before, the instructions that I used were not for beginners eventhough the book stated that it was for beginners. Your instructions are vrey clear and easy. I just finished the pendant that you demonstrated. It took me a few minutes and got it right on the first try! Thank you. Looking forward to more of your instuctional videos.

I have used deoll needles with success too, my husband was clever enough to make the eye fit the length of the needle. What he did was very gently hammer the eye a few taps, turn over, a few taps and keep checking, but you have to be gentle!! I have made a couple of projects with that kind of needle. Also, Handy Hands.com has all the needle tatting stuff you need, they are great and the prices are not bad , also have lots of books and designs, threads, needles, etc. Tatting is FUN!! Thanks.

TotusMel your instructional video is excellent, you are a talented teacher with fine speech and communication skills and a pleasant sounding vocal pitch. In this video I feel you have given me the 'head start' needed to accomplish other patterns.Incidentally I plan to incorporate these embellishments into my card making, which is actually the reason I began looking for this type of 'needlework' after inheriting a small of stack of precious handmade gift cards...so thank you, thank you, thank you.

I also wanted to mention I found it easier to learn with the needle rather than the shuttle. You show the steps quit well and was easy to pick up on the stitches and how they should look on the needle. Find the shuttle is to cumbersome. Will be looking for more of your videos.
now it will be practice, practice and more practice.

Your visual demonstration was so clear and easy to follow I did not even need to put the sound on to learn how to make this flower (husband was watching TV). It took only 3 tries to perfect it. I've never needle tatted successfully before the shuttle has been far more difficult than the needle to learn. I like how you just dove in and didn't waste time playing with the tools as I have seen so many others do. Thank you so much!!! (I will say if you have never done needle arts before such as crochet or knitting, put the sound on!)
