Compared to Comeng trains the HCMT are very quiet, but not when compared to Xtrapolis or Siemens trains. The Xtraps are EXTREMELY quiet, virtually silent.
@@urbanloverman What was the actual fault with said variable speed drive system? Watching this video, as well as others and a combination of my own, the Traction System a lower note noise (and a nicer noise in my humble opinion).
@@victorianvlogsofficial Yes the concertina style gangway allows passengers to move along the 7 car set with an outer protective piece of the gangway cover to try to prevent passengers falling between the carriages at stations
I will if I spot anything unusual or interesting. I came upon this midnight action when working at Newport siding. They were doing the test runs each night trying to run up 10,000km of fault free operation before handing over to Metro Trains
Yes, the first two trains were returned to China with electronic problems. The sound of the variable speed drive sounds very strange. The new ones are extremely quiet.
I am a suburban train maintainer for Metro Trains Melbourne 🚆 and this was filmed at Newport siding when I was working on the Siemens train next to it.
This was filmed at Newport Siding while I was fault finding the Siemens trains one night. The HCMT was conducting night trials to Werribee and back This particular train was one of the very first trains built and was so problematic it was scrapped. Subsequent trains have solved the problems and are now in service on the southern side of Melbourne waiting for the Metro tunnel to be finished before they can run from Sunbury to Pakenham
I don't understand why it needs four whole pantographs for just 7 coaches, particularly in 2020 - there are trains from the '80s still running in the UK that have one for every 4 cars, and new trains that have one for every six carriages. I'm sure there's a reason, but WHY!?
I would think that all the projects of Victoria’s Big Build could’ve been completed 6 years ago.
Neat!
Compared to the current fleet the HCMT emit less noise pollution...

@@urbanloverman I'm yet to board HCMT but I did see one pass by.... from the outside the noise emitted from the bogies is less...
@@urbanloverman I am not sure about that/ Anyway the HCMT is far superior to the xtrap!
Is it me or is the sound of the throttle magestic sounding?
It's actually the sound of a malfunctioning variable speed drive system.
The newly released HCMT's are completely silent

How about that cover in the rubber thingies?
Not sure what you mean... please explain
So the 2020 train has that rubber between the carriages the carriages have a rectangle covering the side of the rubber

Why aren’t they in service? They are a year late
Because they keep having issues with the electrical parts. the last thing you want is for a train to short itself out a week into revenue service
Your name's literally "alex". Shut up, your opinion doesn't matter and is irrelevant.
is this trespassing?
Not if you work for Metro Trains as a train maintainer

I didn’t think as a condition of entry into the PKE maintenance facility you were allowed to film this?
