Not sure if this is true (my dad told me this), but the bottle with the marble was an early soft drink bottle. Pressure from in the bottle would hold up the marble to seal it. When you drank from it you used your tongue to push the marble clear to allow the liquid to come out. When you released the marble it made a ‘pop’ sound, hence the term pop for soft drinks (at least here in Atlantic Canada).
They were also used here (Scotland) in beer / cider bottles ! And even in my youth if you took your bottle to get refilled it saved 50p on the price ? This was refilled from a barrel of cheap sherry, lol, ah the insanity of youth ?it was a quick and cheap way to get wasted. ? Lol
Yep it’s called a cod bottle (named after the person who invented it, not the fish). They still actually sell soft drinks in them in Japan mostly (ramune soda)- you can find them in specialty shops in the US. The old ones can be fairly valuable because children used to break them open to get the marble, so it’s hard for bottle diggers and mudlarkers to find unbroken ones.
The bottles you found that had the marble stoppers in them are called Cod Bottles. To find them unbroken with with the marble still in the neck, is rare as kids would look for them, break the necks to get the glass marbles! Very nice find and certainly collectable 😊!
They are called Ramune bottles in Japan and are sold here year round, but most popular in the summer during festivals. I saw 6 packs of them just yesterday.
I agree with Melissa at 5:44 “ I think EVERYONE knows”. So wonderful your humor and small talk while sorting the trailer! You two have great chemistry and are fun to watch. Your channel has given hours of entertainment and sure beats the “Breaking-News” on TV
@@elainedee9314I've never heard Alex intentionally be condescending to Melissa, and I've watched nearly every video he's done since the Potter's House series. If he says anything he thinks may have hurt her, he's quick to clarify what he meant. Also, Melissa is a jokester and can tease him right back. From what I can see (and I've watched a lot of The Behavior Panel videos, which analyze body language), they have a healthy relationship and mutual love/respect for eachother.
I had that barbie camper when I was a kid and it actually looked similar to the big bread van that my dad turned into a camper for our family to use. It was therapy for him after losing three fingers on his right hand while working on machinery at work.
The bottles with the marble stoppers reminded me of when I was a child. I lived next to a mansion house. At the back where the old tennis courts were was also an old Victorian tip. So as you do , us kids would spend our time digging it up and looking for treasures. We found all kinds of bottles including some of those fizzy pop bottles with the marble stoppers. We took them to a local antique shop and the owner told us we were lucky to find them intact as quite often the children back then would smash them open to have the glass stopper to play marbles with! Sadly though my friend took them home to wash them. She had lined them up on the patio to dry and her monstrous little brother used them as target practice for football and smashed the lot. Her brothers name? ….. Alex 😏
When i was a kid in 60's early 70's those bottles with marble were a common find we called them "skoggy" bottles, and used to smash them to get marble out.
Melissa you are such a saint.!! Always smiling always loving and so gracious with everything you put up with with Alex and his collecting!! Big hugs for you!!
This has been a fun series! I am always so amazed at how knowledgeable Alex is on his finds. I enjoy the history you incorporate with the items! Thanks
I have the Barbie country camper. The camp stools go with it and are "stored" behind the driver's seat. There should be 2 of them. I played with mine so much that the plastic tent that folds out that it came off. It should also have 2 sleeping bags to go with it.
If you are ever in need of a video idea, I'd love to know what the process is at the auction house. Pricing, photographing, inventory, shipping etc. It's amazing to me how fast such big loads of stuff get processed and ready to go.
If you watch the “Musician’s House” series, I feel Alex did a pretty good job of walking through the process. I’m pretty sure that’s where I found it. I’ll go back and see when I get a second. It’s toward the end of the series
This series is quite ironic. I understand part of the reason you closed your store front was so that if something happened to you, then your family would not have to deal with selling all the inventory in the shop. And here you are helping out a family where that is almost the exact situation - all the old inventory from a previous antique business needed to be dealt with. Must be very affirming for you about your decision to change your business model to buying and on-selling immediately so you don’t hold onto inventory. Such a clever decision on your part and so considerate of your family. This was very interesting watching all the box contents be revealed.
I'm here almost crying, I live in Australia and i used to have one of those BLUE BABY MUSIC box things, i yelled when i saw it, this is insane, to see something like THAT on the other side of the world that you used to own, i'm a bit freaked out haha
Through out your series of searching the boxes, the boxes with all the kitchen gadgets would be hanging on every inch of my kitchen walls,I have many different ones now & they get compliments all the time! Love your channel!❤
A tip when attaching the Barbie windshield and other old plastic pieces is getting the car interior restore sprays that softens plastic a bit. It can help old plastic from cracking, because lots of plastics get brittle with age.
My brother was a smoker at 8 years old. I gave her sister an old blue mason jar. They're expensive, and I realized it was more rare. I gave away hundreds of dollars in expenses of a bottle. It was labeled "Perfect". And honestly, I'm okay with it. I don't have be time with it. I'm glad you have the time to go with these type things.
You two are one great looking couple! Love your humor, like the baby ashtray and Melissa is so genuine and beautiful. Love her haircut and I know she was hot but she still was in there like a trooper! Love watching your videos and your generosity to others that you always think of when you have items they could use. Hope your auction goes well and your cabana comes along for you to enjoy before school starts back up!
Yes, I agree with Melissa, those are the best lemon juicers, I still go back to mine even though I have one of those fancy ones with the handles you squeeze (that is strong enough for me not to break!) and I think it leaves too much juice behind . . .
Yes, not much thought was given to safety in the 70’s. Seatbelts were for sissies. We played with Jarts. I do miss getting soda (aka pop) in glass bottles. It tasted better, the bottles were reused, and we weren’t ingesting microplastics.
Oh my goodness! That was the Barbie camper mis sister and I shared! You have brought back all the fun times we had in our backyard! We set up all kinds of Barbie playtime…. We even played under our picnic table, we made into a tent and had friends bring their Barbies! Lol miss those days….. not electronics, social media….. just simple imagination and a few ( I’m talking few) lol, our dolls all shared clothes…. We sewed? and made our own Barbie clothes? Skirts and halter tops out of our old clothed…. ❤️
Feeling Blue Nothing is cooler than a blue Ball® glass jar, right? Those blue mason jars were mass-produced until 1937 using sand from around Lake Michigan. It was that sand that gave the glass its blue hue. Those blue jars are not rare. However, if you find a mason jar that reads BBGMCo. on the side, you could have a very rare jar. Those mason jars were produced in clear, aqua, and amber colors. Only four amber-colored jars were ever made, making it one of the rarest jars in the world.
Japanese Ramune soda bottles (with glass marble) are still made today. The fun part is opening them as you push a plastic plunger down to dislodge the marble and it creates a soda fizz reaction! They are especially popular in summertime when kids drink them at festivals.
Thanks for bringing us along on and letting some of us live vicariously ❤ wishing you the best of luck with the auction and i will have my fingers crossed on the 2 bids i am currently winning on. You have created a mnster i am obsessed with antique onli e auctions now😂😂

The thumbnail of Barbie’s van!!! My Daddy went to Sears to find one for me in the early 70’s . I can still smell the vinyl. Good times. 💖
I had the Barbie camper. It had 2 of the folding chairs, 2 yellow plastic sleeping bags, cooking pots?, and I believe a few other items.
Love that Melissa was in the video shes a lot of fun.
I have that Barbie camper with all the stuff that belongs to it!!! ❤

Omg “Baby’s First Ashtray” hilarious Alex ❤. Very nice purchase for this lot. And it was all boxed up.

Was going to say the same exact thing! That tent was flimsy and didn’t last long on mine!
I still have the folding chairs and sleeping bags from my camper. It was cool to see it again, I had a lot of fun with mine!
Melissa's new hairstyle looks good.
Melissa, how in the world do you not keep things that you love!? lots of self control, that's how! Best wishes.
