If you are a mortal and have a stock clutch basket it can be beneficial, in a less then new clutch, to run the steels the opposite direction as mentioned to avoid them snagging grooves on the way out, can get you a few more miles on a worn out basket. They only really need to all be facing the same direction, and more importantly flat!
