The Nullarbor has all free camping . Around Esperance Membinup beach is free. Once you are above Geraldton you just look for for places to camp for free. Remember the best weather in WA is March April May for no wind south of Exmouth. Sth Lefroy site 16 good site my 22ft van gets in no worries. If you have a 12 volt pump and some hose you can get fresh water at Sth lefroy

I found a great tip for bugs. Spray all your fly screens with surface spray. The bugs must crawl on the fly screen to get in and will die. Don’t forget your fridge screens.

The best thing yet is an Ozzie mozzie. Turn on when you go to bed with lights off and reap the harvest in the morning! Dead bugs galore, very satisfying. They do cost a bit but are truly fantastic. The other option is midge proof net and Velcro on inside of door.

I have marked out every Showground or Rec place with a ❤ on wiki camp so I’ve got cheap ($10-$12.50) a night stop overs with ammenities and free showers. I’m unpowered because I have enough solar on my roof. There a fb called showgrounds sports and Rec grounds camping that has the files already done for you.
I do a big shop then prepare meals at a cheap caravan park and use their camp kitchen. Then put them into freezer strength zip locks. Im still able to afford organic because there’s no waste. A protein shake is enough for breaky. If I’m super hungry.
I don’t have breakfast generally but do an earlier lunch 11-12ish. Usually a wrap with hummus, meat & pre prepared salad - the ones you get in Woolies. I now buy jars of semi sun dried tomatoes because I found I didn’t use them quickly enough or I bruised them.
I stealth camp where possible (and it always possible for me in a Mercedes’ sprinter) showgrounds are a nice rest for me.
Can do a tad of house sitting for a longer stay
Can do BlazeAid (help out a farmer) in exchange for meals/accomodation

If we get the bugs inside we turn on the light in the shower and leave that door open and turn all the other lights off and spray it with fly spray. Also place a blanket or sheet over the bed and spray the van and shake the sheet off to get rid of any bugs in the bed area.

WIND...I found you can save alot of money by driving to wind conditions. The wind usually changes in either strength, direction or both as the day goes on. eg. morning headwind might be arvo tailwind etc. Drive when conditions are best. Can make fuel consumption per 100km drop considerably. Great app to monitor this is called 'Windy' Over big trips this can save you heaps. Cheers

To help stop insects from entering the van we have placed an extra layer of fly screen mesh (from a hardware store) over the existing metal screen mesh using double sided Velcro. Try and find the smallest grid fly screen mesh you can. Also, take the vent off the lower door and place fly screen mesh on that too. We were able to cut a similar size piece as the door vent and place the vent over the mesh to keep it in place. Also, as someone has already mentioned, use surface spray on your fly screens. We spray onto a microfibre cloth, then rub over the fly screen - both sides. Amber lights outside help keep the bugs away. Hopefully, you will pick up some tips from your Vacationer Caravan meet up. So close to 10K subscribers. Enjoy your week.

Adds up over a year. We are looking forward to getting solar/battery upgrade next week as have only freecamped a few times (due to not being able to use generator) so caravan parks have been $$$, i did get memberships at Big 4 and Gday Parks, saved quite a bit using the memberships. Also the southwest of WA there are a lot of RV friendly towns that have 48hr free camps but generally have to be fully self contained, the more north the more free camps, there’s also a lot of 24hr free stops on the main highways going north that have drop toilets, bins and dump points. And tee off and make kegarator. If you have library card, borrow box. I have a laptop, buy cds from op shops, jrivers and I run ryobi, I got the radio with Bluetooth. Now outdoor music or audiobooks.

G,day from Albury, I feel your pain, fuel is a bloody nightmare at the moment. Travel less , travel slower and stay longer when ever possible. As for the oil pressure, go the simple things first , disconnect the electrical connections and make sure they’re clean and not damaged, check wiring isn’t cracking or damaged. If not it maybe faulty sensor our air leak in pressure pump. From there it starts to get scary 😢 Think back to what you have been doing and where you’ve just taken it , all has an accumulated affect over time and distance and usually doesn’t come cheap. When you were all outside cooking dinner you should of gassed the van out with bug spray, it would of had a chance to work and disparate a bit before you got back inside. USB rechargeable small bug sappers hung ever end of the awning also works a treat. All the best, hopefully it will all work out as something simple, loving ya work, safe travels 👁👁🙃🙃🐕‍🦺🙏❤️🇦🇺

another great video guys and very topical at the moment, we are 9 months in of our 18 month trip around Oz including Tasmania and we have definably seen the costs going up and our budget is a bit out of the window 😀 Some of the things we are doing
    - Use Petrol Spy as seems to be more accurate and is quite surprising the difference in prices, like you were doing sometimes just put $20 in to get to the next place where is much cheaper
    - We stock up at Aldi as much as we can as they are cheaper and then stock up at Coles or Woolworths (and buy and pay in just over $30 lots to get as many petrol vouchers as possible) as these are a lot cheaper than IGA or country general stores, then just get what we need fresh as we need it along the way
    - We cook a lot and quite often do chicken or roasts and then have wraps for lunch for next couple of days that saves a bit
    - If you are a G'Day member you get 4c a litre off at Coles Express, plus if you are a Fly-buys member and shop at Coles etc you get a further 4 c off litre, so that is 8c a litre, just put 132 litres in our Nissan patrol so that was a savings of $10.56
    - We have to stay at caravan parks as not set up for off grid but I check various parks and find the smaller ones just out of town are a bit cheaper and quite ofter I think better
    - We have started cutting back on eating out but we do like cooking so has not been a big deal
    - Doing regular checks and simple maintenance to your car and caravan can save heaps as can stop bigger issues, I have 2 left thumbs and am not mechanical minded but using You-tube, asking others and giving it a go has certainly saved us money
    - We haven't found a way to cut our wine and beer cost yet, tried casks and that did not work, look for good specials and buy then is current strategy
You guys are great and it shows as you are almost 10K subscribers and that's because you are real, great to see more of Mr Bob and he looks like he has a real personality
Looking forward to this Wednesdays video re your power and off grid set up

G,day Adrian my bride is retiring early next year so were going to spend a couple of years cruising up and down the east coast. If you haven’t got wiki camps downloaded yet do it now and plan a little in front. Same as the fuel saver app. Try not to travel to far at a time, travel between ten and four so you can go slower, less speed less fuel and then you get there stay longer. Don’t buy anything from a servo other than fuel. Bulk buy at Aldi plan ahead. Follow the sun ,north in winter, south in summer, less need for plug in for heating, cooling. If you do need to plug in find a show ground or check on wiki camps . Try and do laundry yourself or at show ground, stay away from laundromat unless absolutely necessary. We normally allow our self’s a hundred dollars a day all included and it seems to work alright for us, but we stay at a lot of free or cheap camps and generally stay for five or more days. Just day trip around from were ever we’re based . I know I’m probably telling you nothing you don’t already know but I’m hoping I’ve helped out a bit. If you see a silver Nissan Navara towing a new age manta ray mr19e with two burnt out old fossils and a big black dog Roxy, don’t hesitate to say g,day . Save travels 🙏❤️❤️🇦🇺

Hi Adrian, i couldn't say it better than Graham has. The speed at which you travel does make a huge difference as fuel is expensive as is maintenance on the vehicle. Most couples are spending between $3k to $4k a month. Graham has shared some other great tips. Hope you do decide to hit the road!

    • @adrianskipper
      @adrianskipper Год назад

Thank you for that . Looks like it’s necessary to work while travelling at it exceeds a pension.Which raises more questions about working on line . We have done extensive long lap caravan travel in the NT , New Zealand and Southern Africa and choose the back roads where possible. However, Distances in the NT are so far from anywhere to get to Queensland is at least three days and a good start to a lap .

They are always around 6 cents a litre cheaper than the opposition in Ballina. No dockets etc, just cheaper. Great turnover so clean fuel. Also it’s a pretty new petrol station.
