- STORING DRAWN COMB ; PREVENT #WAX MOTH DAMAGE
Storing drawn comb without the use of chemicals, drawn comb is premium for our apiary. To have dry drawn comb for honey production or nucs and splits we have to find a way to store it that the wax moth won't destroy it.

what I find works for me at the moment is to put the frames in the freezer for a day and then use plastic wraps to wrap the frames in stacks for storage.
We use the same process Kayi.
I do not have freezer space. Wax moth has to be frozen 3 days, from my understanding< to kill larvae. But If it works for you, more power to ya!
@@buttsbeesllc4063 I understand 👍, I put them way before eggs turn to larvae, overnight freeze seems to kill any potential eggs that are present on the combs. But yea if no freezer space just have to find other alternatives. All the best!
great video , i have lots of problems with hive beetles , thanks for sharing
Thanks! SHB is a pain in the butt! Big populations and small quarters(bees must cover frames) are the best defense
I've had mice and rats chew up comb left in the open like that
I thought I would too but even though there are both critters here they leave my frames alone 😎 but if they were stacked they would nest and eat comb and wood! Each area has it's pros and cons I guess. Thanks for watching!
Water is not a problem when you store them like that?
If the frame is not right side up water doesn't get into it. They may get damp but nothing too bad.
@@buttsbeesllc4063 thank you for the videos. I am learning so much. I think when I get to that point where I have combs to store. It will feel weird to leave it out like that. A lean-to would be to much shade you think?
Depends on how the sun shines through, the winter sun is lower so you may be fine if there are no trees in the way. Or you could try the frame rack, sans hive box. 😀
