  • The first Lethal Weapon...Mel Gibson never looked back....superstardom and a chance to direct and really show what he could do...He would win an Oscar for Braveheart...Released on March 6, 1987, Lethal Weapon was No. 1 at the box office for three weeks before Blind Date supplanted it. It grossed $120.2 million worldwide and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing (Les Fresholtz, Dick Alexander, Vern Poore and Bill Nelson) (losing to The Last Emperor). It is widely considered to be one of the best buddy cop films of all time, influencing numerous "buddy cop" films such as Hot Fuzz, Tango & Cash, Bad Boys and the Rush Hour series.

It was so good that I played around a golf with two locals north of Sydney and they didn't know until the 17th hole that I was from America. They thought I was pulling a fast one on them with the accent, but I just said it's something I normally acquired speaking to the people and just living there for that time. Upon coming home I had quite a hard deal in kicking the accent with people telling me that I was getting annoying using it, but I told him it was nothing I was doing on purpose. My dad was like that, very alpha, but talkative which is bizarre for a dominant man to be. He followed Mad Max, and I never knew why he liked that movie(s). He would observe movies to incorporate these characters into his own persona I think. Of course, he was uniquely himself. He'd watch the Sopranos, and Eastwood, and just a whole host of movies. I had no interest in them. I'd rather read books. He liked to think of himself as lawyerly, and with common sense. Sure, big brained, he had that, but idk, I never got to his level and don't think I ever could have. It was a "from birth" kinda thing. I'm me, you're you, and he's he.

He really does not enjoy being interviewed you can tell. He is very guarded and doesn't trust the press.... I do not blame him. He was one fine looking man. I loved the long hair. lol... I hope he is happy now but felt it very sad that he and his wife split. I think she was the glue that kept him grounded and he probably still loves her, most men do even after their split. I know he said he loved her a lot whilst they were married. Anyway i wish him well now.

Mel such a beautiful and handsome man. I love him. I have had family members meet him and friends meet him and they say he is a cool guy!! I love it! He dropped the accent or No I'm sorry he covered the accent is that what they say? I can't believe that Bruce [Handsome] Willis was offered the role in LETHAL WEAPON and passed it over. But him in DIE HARD was Amazing too!!! These guys are real AMERICANA! Iconic films that people LOVED!!! I know friends that have met Bruce too and said "He treated me like I was a friend" That is too cool for words baby!! I have lived in Hollywood and I have met many, I know how they are and that is amazing my friends. THX WOLFE
