Love these Dee style flies. Once again you make it look easy!! You can get the heron from Cookshill fly tying supplies. My favourite is the Dunt Thanks for another great vid Davie. All the best from Ireland Dave
Hi Dave, The Dunt is a lovely colour combination and favourite of mine as well, I'll be tying one or two in the future and I'm sure many would love to see it as well..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
A question about the turkey feather. Is it a Quill or a tail feather that you use with this fly. It is a beautiful fly and I learned something about the tying technique.
Hi @toncremers9776, The feathers are from the tail of the turkey as the fibres are far longer and softer for flies like this..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
Good morning have you ever tied this or any other pattern on a cebrit jointed hook ? I have a good number not sure of the size maybe a 2. I could send you some . It would make an interesting video I think. Thanks again . Jim
I'm not quite sure how you do it. You have a way of making fly-tying look so effortless. It's kind of sickening when I think about it: I struggle feeling like I'm all thumbs and you are elegant.
Yes i am an old man.use of fingers is not good.how does one tye wings without them coming apart before i can tye them. Is it not possible to glue the fibres before cutting them from the feather , so what is the glue.
Hi Al Melling, Unfortunately glueing the wing before you tye it on will not work well. I used turkey on the wing of this fly and as long as you can find good feathers they should make it easy to tye the wing on.. All the very best Davie
Not trying to sound needy but can you make more videos on how to die feathers and hair and that type of stuff? i look it up but nothing really comes up
Great Tying there mate. Just wondering if you can go down to a size 7? Bet that would be for steelhead. Love the colours. Thanks for sharing my friend. OldBear
Hi OldBear, I've been tying them down to a low water size 10 which is slightly smaller than a size 7 and I'm sure they'll fish well for steelhead..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
Without a doubt, you are the best tier on youtube Davie. I've been trying to learn classic salmon and Spey/Dee flies for a couple years now and for me to tie that fly would take 3 times as long, and it would look about 1/3 as good! You even make mounting wings look easy (which I can attest, it is not). Two quick questions, being as this is going to be a fishing fly, should you counter-wrap the hackle and lock it in with the tinsel? Secondly, where do you find blue-eared pheasant in 3/0 (John Mclain maybe?). If I can find it even close to 1/0 its like winning the lottery! All the best Davie and thanks for all the videos, they are the best Brian in British Columbia
Hi Brian, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that you for all the kind words..I have tyed these flies in both ways but I would say counter ribbing the hackles would certainly make them more secure though I've had no complaints with any coming apart and it's been the same with the flies I have fished..Many will ask for them to be ribbed like I did in the video as they like to keep them as they should be tyed.. The blue eared pheasant skin I bought when I was over in America a few years ago and I had the choice of a few so I made sure there were many large feathers to pick from, though I now need to find another as I've not many feathers left..I did buy the turkey feathers from John as he has some of the best feathers I've ever bought.. Many thanks again.. All the very best Davie
Hi George B, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I have attached a link to some on the internet as this is where I bought some before.. All the very best Davie
certainly has the wow factor Davie. Look expensive! Could you tell me please, what do you do to make a fly "weedless" ? The traffic from tourist boats is slowly easing and I want to try spinning with fly gear. I am told there are trout in places too.
Hi David Harvey, I have be honest with you I have never tyed a fly with a weed guard so I did a search for you and found a few good videos in which you may like to see as I'm sure they will be able to help you with your flies... All the very best Davie ruclips.net/video/womf0NsTqHw/видео.html
Lovely tie again. Would the veniard TG 1/0 be about the right size?Or maybe you can't endorse other brands. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and skill. Really enjoy the vids and hope I've learned a lot from them
Hi Karl, Terry Griffiths 1/0 hook would be a great choice to tye this fly on as it's a lovely hook to use as I have tyed a few on them myself..I'm glad you enjoyed the video... All the very best Davie
Hi Dave, I can't promise you as I do have a few patterns lined up for over the winter months but keep me in mind just incase I run out of ideas.. All the very best Davie...
I love the graceful sweep of the Bartleet Supremes..too bad they discontinued it.
Masterful, I love going back and looking at the old videos. It's like watching a magician showing how a trick is done. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Davie! I LOVE this fly and really like and appreciate you putting the material list on here now. Fantastic!! Thank you for sharing.
