Great stuff. Waves always look smaller on film - do expect bigger waves at sea tho! We're looking at this model (Athena 38) coming from a larger mono-hull. How are you finding it, and why did you choose it? Also see you tube anchoring tips for wind against tide... Many Thanks, Paul
For sure...we’ve experienced some of those ocean waves now! 😲 We loved this boat A) because it was in our price range B) It was a manageable size for our first boat and C) the boat features like galley up, 4/2, and a blue water boat. Best of luck with your search!
We did the ICW from Lake Ontario, NY to Key West. I loved your video. Great comments about being polite to bridge tenders. One question…do you also have your boat name on your dinghy or somewhere on your stern so overtaking boats can easily hail you? Most large boats were polite to us as well. I recommend stock Island Marina and also Boca Chica key ( but not on weekends!). Loved dolphins on our journey too!
Hi Becky! Thanks for subscribing and for the comment! At the time of this sail, we didn’t have the name on the sugar scoops but our name did show up on AIS if other boats had that available. Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll add those to our list!
@@DestinationAdrift we booked Stock Island for 4 weeks, ended up staying 6. We have folding bikes on our sailboat for the trip which helped getting groceries! Key west was amazing! Tarpon basin also a great place to anchor. Make sure your anchor is secure in the keys. Sand is sometimes very hard. The only place we dragged our anchor on our entire trip😫. We were on a Catalina 350. Next time you sail try and time your overbite near Titusville to a rocket launch. Unforgettable. So amazing.
Congratulations 👍
Thank you!
Must be so exciting actually heading out!
It is soooo exciting! Hard to believe the day was finally here. We can’t get enough now!
Great video!! Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Thank you!
