      Hi Steve
My friend has a 2005 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 Liter V - 6 motor installed in it. Code read out says P0302 and P0442. Her mechanic is telling me that he believes that the problem is that the number two cylinder intake valve is stuck open for some reason. He says that his next step is to remove the valve cover to examine / ascertain the problem - cause for repair.
What do you think about this situation ?

@@JG-ef2cn IMO, no, Unless the smell of gas and the check engine light bothers you. Most of the time it's the seal on the gas cap. If you live in a state where emissions are an issue, your not going to get your registration updated, therefore, clean everything first like Steve said and go from there. Hope this helps you out. We're all in this together. Good luck.

Don't throw money at the problem, because there are a dozen components that can trigger this code. Before you piss your money away on anything new that isn't broken, try cleaning the gas cap as described. If that doesn'ty work bring it to a shop and have them properly diagnose the exact cause so you only have to pay for that one thing.
