Use to travel to Tampa when that bridge was 2 lanes each way🙄 then 9 years with new bridge. Haven’t used that bridge in over 20 years (I’ve been working from home 😊)
From 2004 to 2016, I took the Howard Franklin from Tampa to Pinellas twice a day. I may have witnessed at least 30 accidents live and was stuck in traffic jams from accidents perhaps 1,000 times. It is so nice to see the bridge renewed. Let's hope they designed it to have less sudden stops just as you are getting on the Westshore side. I hope they made it impossible to decide to jump lanes to get on the Veterans in the last second. I have seen so many accidents based on that alone.
There was a massive delay on that bridge (southbound) about 15 years ago. I think it was in June. People finally got out of their cars and it turned into a huge picnic
especially between Orlando & Tampa. That would help alleviate so much of I-275 traffic. Florida has just gotten too overrun in recent years due to COVID & is struggling to keep up & will be for a long while.
Instead of tearing the old one down turn it into a state park and make a fishing pier out of it like they did with the skyway gives people some where to go with there families to fish and maybe make a few bucks off of it wouldn’t cost them a dime to do it I just don’t get why they don’t do more things like that really a shame
You do know that the original bridge was made more than 60 years ago now right? The whole area was vastly different then than it is today. It is not a waste of taxpayer money to replace a bridge that is more than half a century old. So stop and think before you say something ignorant.

Hurry up

We should have demanded light rail all over the state years ago!

Is James Cameron going to blow up the old bridge for a new movie?
We are building this whole bridge for express lanes. Nothing is really gained.
It needed to be rebuilt, the one that is going to be taken down is nearing EOL. The express lanes are just a bonus.
Hopefully they update the skyway bridge for more lanes
Why? It doesn't carry anywhere near the traffic as the other 3 do.
There is no reason to, it handles traffic perfectly and the cost is way to much
Why not do it big the first time what a waist of taxpayers money
There is probably an engineering reason. But I’m not smart enough to know
COST
