    May I ask? This site I found says that "Together, they form polyiodide ions of the type In-, for example, I3-, I5-, or I7-. The negatively charged iodide in these compounds acts as charge donor, the neutral iodine as a charge acceptor. Electrons in such charge-transfer complexes are easy to excite to a higher energy level by light. The light is absorbed in the process and its complementary color is observed by the human eye."
    But you mentioned that the polyiodide is the charge acceptor, not the donor. Why is that? Isn't Iodine a negative charge (reducing agent)?

    thanks for the great video, do you know any sources of error and precautions to take for this experiment?

      Iodine starch test is a pretty straightforward andd sensitive test. No specials precautions are needed. But make sure there are no traces of starch in the glassware and other articles used in the test by pre cleaning them with soap and water.

    Thank you for the clear and adequate explanation, but how do you prepare a transparent and homogeneous solution of starch?

    • @TheSingtangpaScienceGuy
      @TheSingtangpaScienceGuy  Год назад +1

      Make a paste of 0.5 or 1g starch with a small amount of cold water. Then add this paste slowly and gradually to about 100ml of boiling hot water. You have a clear transparent solution.

    What does it mean if the liquid turns light purple

    • @TheSingtangpaScienceGuy
      @TheSingtangpaScienceGuy  5 месяцев назад +1

      Light purple is also a positive test. Just that there is much lesser amount of starch present
