I've fished all the way down to size 22 hook as my smallest, usually tied as flies for fly fishing, and occasionally on my ultra-lite rod. I think the smallest I would throw for bass would be in sizes 1-4.
Agree😂 I fished 2 lakes and a pond today, caught 1 fish on a super fluke that was it for the whole day. Tried top water frog, flukes in 2 colors, wacky worms, and a crankbait. Wasn’t changing lures like crazy either gave each one about an hour of casting just no luck at all before just going back to the white super fluke because it’s my favorite and finally catching 1 bass that was only 1.5lbs😂

I got my first fly rod and reel last week Can't wait to try it Also it included 2 flies, I for the most part have used the same unmarked/no brand/no idea what size of assorted hooks I got with my spinning rod about a decade ago. So I was surprised when I saw that the flies are about the same size as my smaller hooks

@ Norm, there are even smaller hooks to number 14 or higher, but smaller in size. Just note dry or wet flies, that are used in fly fishing with other material created to be a insect,etc. Some bass can resist and are so strong to bend a tiny thin hook.
I use the size 10 and 12 hooks all the time for bream, and large minnows. I also use them when making my freshwater sibiki rigs to catch baitfish for catfishing. I also use them for small trout in the North, GA rivers and streams during early spring.

Size 22/24 is the smallest hooks we can get for fishing in Ireland. Course fishing here in Ireland including perch, size 18 wouldn't be out of place to use. The only time we would be 1/0 to 4/0 would be for sea fishing.
I use size 12 for bluegill and sometimes dace. But 14 is better for dace. I use size 16 to 18 for small shinner, I want to find size 20 hooks or smaller.
I use the size 12 most of the time to catch minos, Bluegill, crappie, I even caught 11 bass on the size 13 in one day so yep that what I do. BUT most of the time I sure size 1. Probably bigger. And norm your videos are LIGIT THE BEST

If you fly fish for trout, they hooks get tiny. I have a size 18 fly. I’ve seen size 24 fly fishing hooks.

I use salmon egg hooks with corn for bluegill :) they work amazing but they’ll swallow it if you let ‘em so you gotta be quick on the hook set
