Thank you so much for the video. One day I’ll go to the show. The Germans really seem to know how to do everything Overlanding. Having said that the prices are eye watering, so I’ll keep plodding on building my camper and feel good knowing I’m saving a fortune!
Kids in a sweetshop! The number of rigs and accessories looks bewildering. I really look forward to seeing what you have learnt from the show and translating into Tonka II. Thanks for sharing your 4 days with us.
Thank you for the tour! We did the "Willy's" meet-up in 2020, but hope to see this one someday as well. I've said it here in the US too: Who can afford all of this? Lol...apparently many can.
Awesome video as always guys. It was so lovely to meet you both. Thank you so much for your hospitality and the gorgeous meal. Hope to see you somewhere in the future. Safe travels.
That was a really detailed overview thanks both. We both cannot believe the prices, I think if we were ever to consider another build we'd definitely do it ourselves again even though it's a chore. Looking forward to the camp show around! 👍
I wondered as the video progressed if you were seriously looking with a view to changing. From your reply above you are. Will you look to change just the box or the whole vehicle?
@@daveroberts-bridgnorth Hi Dave, we decided about 9 months ago that we wanted to build a rig from scratch...there's other factors taking us home which we'll cover in a future video. However, our sole reason for coming to the show was to solidify our thinking and design. It'll be a complete build, we love our truck & have procrastinated for ages on this one. But, we're only going to do this once and I fancy doing it from the ground up, so sadly our rig will go on the market early next year. And then the pain really begins 😬
Hey Phil and Izzy, love watching your travels etc on your channel, very inspirational, only wish I could do this myself. This particular episode shows some great overlanders etc but highlights the extreme costs involved :( . I love your truck BTW !!!
Hi Michael, thank you...really appreciate you saying so. Yep crazy silly prices, I couldn’t bring myself to spend that sort of money (even if we had it). We're looking to keep it a little more modest 😀
@@TheGapDecaders we're off to France soon for a few weeks, in our campervan, first of many we hope. I'm trying to talk the wife into Morocco, but we are starting simple with France for now.
@@michaelgarcher Hi Michael, sounds good and it's hard to beat France when the sun's shining, we love it. Good luck with the Morocco persuasion, maybe broach the subject when it's cold and pouring down 🤣👍🏻
Hi both, thank you. Yeah, really enjoyed meeting you guys, love the rig and hopefully we'll crossed paths further south. Appreciate the advice Jeff, 👍🏻😀
Excellent job showcasing such an enormous expedition. Very interested to see what you came away with as ideas for any possible changes you might/ would like to make to your own set up.
Thank you, it's so full on during the show with influences at every turn. Our intent is to build another rig, that was the reason for attending the show. Putting the crazy prices to one side, it's certainly clarified our future intent. 😀
Yeah we're in Preston just now getting a rear protection bar fitted then off to catch the newhaven to dieppe ferry next week Then to Aldi for cheap red wine and our adventure begins take careguys
@@gordonbryson2986 fantastic, pleased to hear you're getting away. Nothing like a glass of red (and a cheese & cracker) whilst taking in the French scenery. Enjoy 🍷😀
Great video. So true with the prices. Not to mention there seems to be an Allrad or Expedition tax of 80% or higher. 😮 I see a diy book in your future showing people how to build their own. 😊
Enjoyed your videos. Very informative. Thanks! I emailed some of these companies for price estimates. Yeah the prices makes you cough up your coffee😂. But they have the customer base and the demand is there, and it's quality products. They have willing wealthy payers. While selling the house ain't a problem, the lead times are potential dealbreakers. I reckon I'll have to settle for a ten year Toyota Land Cruiser and off road caravan for now. Happy travels!
Thanks for the video, was bringing back memories 😊 Aren’t you guys looking for a new rig? Maybe another option is re-using the MAN with a new box (maybe designed with help from Fabhabs) and find a builder with reasonable pricing? Hope to see the camp-walk video soon, looking forward to it.
Thanks Pascal, we'd talked about doing exactly that, but we're both keen to do one build from the ground up, a little daunting but we like a challenge. We already know our preferred layout so we'll probably use Tom for the interior technical design. 🙏😀
@@TheGapDecaders Ah OK, so you are going to do the same as us. We got our camper based on a MB814 (shorter version than Uwe & Renate), but want to build a new cabine when retirement is close. Already found a builder (5km from home) and we know the layout. Already discussed it with them and we know a ballpark price (very reasonable). Might ask Tom in a few years time to help us, let us know how your experiences with him are when you guys start the process. Good luck 👍🏻
Looks epic a feast for the eyes for sure! We are hoping to go in a couple of years, looking forward to the camp area to see the rigs that people are actually using. We are hoping that when we go there will be someone coming to the end of their world trip and looking to sell their rig 🙏
If you're remotely interested in all things overland travel, it's gotta be done. If you're seriously looking to purchase a rig, come to the Camp area and choose from the many on sale from good DIY to professional builds. 👍🏻😀
We'll be at next years event to consider our options. 5 years ago when we started mapping out our retirement plans we budgeted a certain amount for a vehicle and cannot believe the rate at which the costs have gone up in that time.
The whole overland scene has always been up there, but since the Pandemic it's got silly. Even trying to source a base vehicle at reasonable money has become a challenge, Good luck 👍🏻😀
Great video again. I'd love to get to see it some time in the near future. Did you happen to come across any companies making bespoke rims by any chance? We are looking for our Fuso and struggling to find a company in the UK that can make them for us. It seems to be a one stop shop for everything overland.
Hi Julia, thank you. Very possibly, try a company called "Corint" in Germany, they specialise in offroad tyres & rims. Have you explored the Hutchinson option, there's a number of countries (certainly NL & Germany) who supply, it's gotta be worth a phone call and even if they can't help...see if they can point you in the right direction (without shipping from Australia) 😀 Good luck 👍🏻
@@TheGapDecaders Thanks for that. Really useful. I didnt know about Hutchinson. I Have considered the Oz route as AAV specialise in Fuso rims but something closer to home would be a better option I think. Enjoy your onward travels.
Thank you, the Abenteuer Allrad event in Bad Kissingen is superb and the dates for the 2024 event are 30 May - 2 June and book tickets online early. This event is vast and you just need to experience it, depending on what you're into. Or there's the Adventure Southside in southern Germany 19 - 21 July 2024 Or the Caravan Salon, Dusseldorf, Germany from the 30 August - 8 September 2024 If you jump on Facebook, there's also a "4x4 calendar Europe" listing events including the Adventure Overland show- Stratford - upon-Avon 13-15 Sep 2024 Hope that helps 👍🏻
Great to see all the incredible creations but I do think its all a bit over the top no ? Almost like imperialism on 4x4 wheels and not really the best way to visit the poorer regions of the world ? I'd prefer a far more modest way of travelling off the beaten track and to merge more inconspicuously with places and people I see on the way . I think you've judged it just about right with your rig . Capable but not too ostentatious
Hi Justin, well observed and I have to agree. We've met many wealthy overlanders on our travels however some purposely choose an old truck (ensure it's mechanically sound) and are just that...sensitive to the world around them and keep it modest. Appreciate you thoughts 👍🏻

You’re so spot on, yes they do it well but silly money.
I hear you, we're definitely in the same camp. 👍🏻😀
Thanks for showing us around - wish we had something like this in the states.
My pleasure, surprised you don't, you'd love all the Unimog's with every rising roof, pop top, interior layout you can imagine. 🙏😀
